Jairam Ramesh makes baseless statements: Giriraj Singh slams Congress
New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh has hit back at Congress leader Jairam Ramesh over his criticism of the Centre's multi-party global outreach on counter-terrorism, stating that leaders like him only see politics in the anti-terror effort and make baseless statements.
Speaking to IANS, Giriraj Singh stated, 'Whether it is Jairam Ramesh, Kharge ji, or Rahul Gandhi, commenting on them is not appropriate because they make baseless statements. Today, Pakistan is being exposed across the world, and that is exactly what needs to be done. If Jairam Ramesh sees politics in this effort, then so be it.'
He reiterated the Indian government's commitment to countering terrorism, referencing ongoing efforts like Operation Sindoor.
The Minister noted, 'Pakistan is a terrorist state. It shelters and supports terrorism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear, the goal is to eliminate terrorism and terrorists. Operation Sindoor is part of that mission. It hasn't stopped yet.'
Highlighting Pakistan's aggression, Singh added, 'When Pakistan attacks civilian areas, and then cries before the world, we have the right to tell the truth globally, that we are targeting terrorism, not civilians.'
On Sunday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, talking about the names of MPs selected for the delegations, said it was "cheap politics" and the government was indulging in 'politicisation' by not including all the names recommended by the Opposition for the all-party parliamentary delegation. He also took a shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of abusing the Congress on foreign soil and then taking the party's help to put points across to the same nations.
Giriraj Singh also responded sharply to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's past remarks on Bangladeshi infiltrators, accusing her of prioritising vote-bank politics over national security.
'Mamata Didi boldly says, 'Who will remove Bangladeshi infiltrators while I'm here?' Her idea of nationalism seems tied to her vote bank. Her politics revolves around protecting infiltrators, and that's the extent of it,' he said.

Kochi: It seems the state's dream of having a semi-high-speed rail line is unlikely to become a reality soon, with neither Centre nor the state govt taking any concrete steps to take any of the two proposals forward. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The discussion chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan held with Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier this week did not cover either the SilverLine proposal or the alternative semi-high-speed rail project proposed by Metroman E Sreedharan. As railways is yet to take a favourable stand on Sreedharan's proposal even after four months, the state govt's special representative in Delhi, K V Thomas, has requested Sreedharan to meet both Vaishnaw and railway officials. However, Sreedharan's stand is that he cannot approach Centre unless the state govt officially entrusts him to do so, demanding that the project proposal be taken up for further action. It seems the state govt is not planning to hold any further discussions with Sreedharan regarding the alternative proposal. The state govt submitted a draft of the semi-high-speed rail line proposal, prepared by Sreedharan, to the Union govt on Feb 10. The alternative proposal was submitted after the railway ministry informed that it could not approve the SilverLine project proposed by K-Rail. "It's been four months since the state govt submitted Sreedharan's proposal to Centre. But during the meeting, the proposal wasn't even mentioned or taken up for discussion. The only way to revive the project now is through pressure from Sreedharan himself. I've requested him to meet Vaishnav or railway officials directly to explain the project's benefits," said Thomas, who was present alongside Vijayan during the meeting with the railway minister. He also expressed unhappiness over Vijayan's recent statement expressing hope over SilverLine. "The chief minister's recent statement that SilverLine will become a reality indicates that the govt is still focused on that project. State govt representatives have not held any discussions with me before or after their recent meeting with the railway minister. I cannot approach Centre directly regarding my proposal unless the state govt officially requests me to take the initiative. If they do, I am ready to hold discussions with Centre," Sreedharan told TOI. Minister V Abdurahman, who is in charge of railways, said the govt was not opposed to considering Sreedharan's proposal. He, however, did not give a clear answer when asked whether the state would request Sreedharan to hold further discussions with Centre. "Kerala is open to implementing either the SilverLine or Sreedharan's alternative project. SilverLine is not a closed chapter," he said.

Mahasangh national president Hemant Bhai Goyal said that while addressing the Congress meeting in Bhopal, Rahul disparagingly said he was adding a third category of horses – the "langda ghoda" (lame horse) – to the known two types used for races and weddings. "He further stressed on retiring the lame horse," Goyal said, condemning the remarks as derogatory and harmful to the dignity of persons with disabilities (PwDs). This choice of words, Goyal argued not only disrespects the rights of PwDs but also violates the spirit of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. "The language used by a Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha should reflect respect and understanding for all sections of the society, especially those who are most vulnerable," Goyal said. "His comments have deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of PwDs and their families across the country," he claimed. Goyal further pointed ECI's 2023 guidelines issued for political parties which state that "common examples of ableist language are words like dumb (gunga), retarded (pagal, sirphira), blind (andha, kana), deaf (behra), lame (langda, lula, apahij), etc. It is necessary to avoid usage of such derogatory language".
