Man hospitalized for life-threatening injuries after collision in Whitby
Alcohol is "believed to a factor" in the collision that happened near Taunton Road West and Cochrane Street just after 11 p.m., police say in a news release.
A white Jeep Wrangler was heading eastbound on Taunton Road West when it collided with a Black Honda SUV that was turning southbound on Cochrane Street, the release says.
Five people in the Jeep were injured in the collision, including a 39-year-old passenger who was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he remains with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The other four people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police say.
The driver of the Honda was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The collision is still under investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while police collected evidence but has since reopened.

Motorcyclist taken to hospital with serious injuries after Kitchener crash

The Waterloo Regional Police Service was called to the intersection of Lancaster Street West and Union Street on Friday around noon. Investigators said the operator of a northbound motorcycle was turning left onto Union Street when he was hit by the driver of a southbound Jeep on Lancaster. The motorcyclist, a 64-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Jeep, a 58-year-old man, was not physically hurt. Motorcyclist dead after crash with dump truck on Hwy. 401 in Toronto
A recent spate of copper wire thefts continued in New Liskeard last week when it emerged that tens of thousands of dollars worth had been stolen from a construction site in New Liskeard. Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a 59-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a dump truck on Highway 401 in Toronto Saturday morning. Police say they responded to the crash on the westbound express lanes near Allen Road at around 7:52 a.m. Investigators believe the dump truck 'lost its driveshaft' before colliding with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist, who police identified as a resident of Newmarket, was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported. Westbound express lanes on Highway 401 remain closed at Avenue Road, with traffic diverted into the collector lanes. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Toronto OPP detachment.
