App-based platforms power one-third of Goas taxi fleet
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's recent announcement that his government will not allow cab aggregators from outside Goa has raised hopes for the local app-based mobility platforms, which have been in the market for some time now.
As per government figures, out of the total 12,000 tourist taxis operating in the state, 5,000 are on board the app-based platforms, mostly with two companies -- Goa Miles and Goa Taxi App.
The Goa Miles alone has a fleet of 4,000-odd taxis on board.
Allaying the apprehensions raised by local tourist taxi drivers over the Goa Transport Aggregators Guidelines 2025, CM Sawant on Friday said cab aggregators from outside will not be allowed in the state.
The draft guidelines were issued on May 20. The last date to give suggestions and raise objections is June 30.
Goa Miles Chief Executive Officer Utkarsh Dabhade told PTI that their service, which is affiliated to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, was introduced seven years ago.
"Since the introduction of the app-based service, we have been receiving good response from tourists and locals alike," he said.
On an average, the Goa Miles fleet transports 15,000 passengers daily, of whom 85 per cent are tourists and 15 per cent local travellers, Dabhade said.
He said their services are available across the state, majorly at both the airports - Manohar International Airport at Mopa (in North Goa) and the international airport at Dabolim (South Goa).
The service has been completely a Goan brand with 100 per cent of the staff, including taxi owners, from the state, he said.
The state-run Goa Taxi App has been active for the last two years with more than 1,000 taxis on board the platform.
The service, having been introduced by the state government, is completely tourist-friendly with regards to rates and other facilities, a senior Goa Taxi App official said.
It would be beneficial for all the tourist taxi owners to get onboard the app-based service to get better business and also other facilities, he added.

Nepal opens 97 remote peaks for free climbing to boost tourism
KATHMANDU: Nepal has opened nearly 100 peaks in its remote western region for free climbing to boost mountain tourism, according to officials. In a bid to attract climbers to less-visited areas, the Himalayan nation's government has waived the royalty for 97 peaks in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces for the next two years. These mountains, ranging from 5,870 metres to 7,132 metres in altitude, are expected to draw tourists to areas with limited economic activity. "The aim is to bring more visitors to remote regions, create jobs and generate income for local communities," Himal Gautam, Director at the Department of Tourism, told PTI. He said the initiative will also help promote Nepal's unexplored mountain destinations. The government has also proposed making it mandatory for climbers attempting Mt Everest to first scale at least one 7,000-metre peak. The proposal, part of an amendment to the Tourism Act, has been sent to the Upper House for consideration and will require approval from both Houses before becoming law. Earlier in the year, Nepal had announced that the fee to scale the 8,848.86-metre Mt Everest will be raised from USD 11,000 to USD 15,000 per person, effective from September 1, 2025.

Godrej Properties balance sheet strong, to pursue good land-buying opportunities: Chairperson Pirojsha Godrej
New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) Godrej Properties acquired five land parcels in the April-June quarter to build housing projects with revenue potential of ₹11,400 crore and will continue to pursue attractive land-buying opportunities, according to a top company official. (Representational Image) (Unsplash ) In an interview with PTI, Godrej Properties Executive Chairperson Pirojsha Godrej said, "We are quite active on the land front. I think anytime there is a good opportunity, of course, we want to pursue it." He highlighted that the company's balance sheet is very strong because of robust operational cash flows and also funds raised in December last year through Qualified Institutional Placement (QIP). "I think good thing is, with the QIP we did in December last year, company's balance sheet is very, very strong. So if there are good opportunities, we will go after them," Pirojsha said. These acquisitions were through outright purchase and joint development agreements with land owners. On these five new land parcels, the company will build housing projects, which carry a total revenue potential of ₹11,400 crore. Pirojsha said the company will hopefully achieve the annual target of adding projects worth ₹20,000 crore in the second or third quarter of 2025-26 fiscal itself. For group housing projects, Godrej Properties is buying land primarily in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. However, the company is acquiring land in tier II cities for the development of residential plots. On sales, Pirojsha Godrej said the company is on track to meet or even exceed the ₹32,500 crore sales bookings target for this fiscal as housing demand continues to be strong. During the 2024-25 fiscal year, the company's sales booking rose 31 per cent to a record ₹29,444 crore from ₹22,527 crore in the preceding year. Pirojsha attributed the decline in pre-sales to the high base effect and slight delay in the launch of a couple of projects. During the last two financial years, Godrej Properties was the country's largest real estate firm in terms of sales bookings. The company is likely to retain its top rank for the third consecutive fiscal year if it achieves the sales bookings target of ₹32,500 crore. On the financial front, Godrej Properties recently reported a 15 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to ₹598.40 crore for the first quarter of this fiscal against ₹518.8 crore in the year-ago period. Total income, however, fell to ₹1,620.34 crore in the April-June period of 2025-26 fiscal against ₹1,699.48 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year. The Mumbai-based firm posted a net profit of ₹1,389.23 crore on a total income of ₹6,967.05 crore during the last financial year.
