All Hands Community Camp empowers kids with diverse activities

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — From first aid training to free meals, one Wichita Falls summer camp is doing a whole lot more than just keeping kids busy.
This summer, kids in Wichita Falls have the chance to dive into more than just fun. The All Hands Playwell Summer Camp is packed with activities designed to support kids emotionally, socially, and academically, all for just $20.

All Hands Community Camp Leader, Eternity Jackson, said it's more than just a summer camp; at All Hands Cultural Community Center, it's a place where kids come to grow.
'Relationships come first with the students, and we just empower individuals to grow personally, grow spiritually, kind of establish their identity and who they are. And then also on top of that, just having that career readiness,' Jackson said.
For just $20 per child, campers can choose from a variety of activities, including swimming, cosmetology, gardening, math lessons, Bible study, and more.
'Culinary arts, first aid, cosmetology, art classes, gardening, reading, math, gym and life skills, as well as spiritual classes like bible study,' Jackson said.
One of the most pivotal classes is life skills, taught by Camp Leader Eternity Jackson.
'I teach everything from anger management, stress management, mental health classes, physical health, like nutrition. It ranges from the small things to the large things and there all hands on,' Jackson said. 'So it's not like, oh, they're just doing a worksheet. You know, they're actually going to walk through those scenarios and kind of teach it back to us like, okay, this is what I learned. And now I'm going to actually apply it to my life.'
Free meals are also included, making this camp a lifeline for working families during the long summer months.
'In all honesty, we understand that people, especially in this area can't really afford it. So, even with the donations, like a lot of people donate to this program just because they have seen the results in the past, it doesn't only benefit their behavior here, it also benefits their behavior at school and in the community,' Jackson said.
From swimming to school preparation, all hands are working together to ensure every child has a safe and supportive place to grow this summer.
