Tesla is slow in reporting crashes and the feds have launched an investigation to find out why

NEW YORK -- Federal auto safety regulators are investigating why Tesla has repeatedly broken rules requiring it to quickly tell them about crashes involving its self-driving technology, a potentially significant development given the company's plans to put hundreds of thousands of driverless cars on U.S. roads over the next year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a filing on Thursday that Tesla's reports on 'numerous' incidents involving its driver assistance and self-driving features were submitted far too late — several months after the crashes instead of within five days as required. The probe comes two months after the electric vehicle maker run by Elon Musk started a self-driving taxi service in Austin, Texas, with hopes of soon offering it nationwide. The company also hopes to send over-the-air software updates to millions of Teslas already on the road that will allow them to drive themselves. Investors enthusiastic about such plans have kept Tesla stock aloft despite plunging sales and profits due to boycotts over Musk's support for U.S. President Donald Trump and far-right politicians in Europe. The safety agency said the probe will focus on why Tesla took so long to report the crashes, whether the reports included all the necessary data and details and if there are crashes that the agency still doesn't know about. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment, but the agency noted that the company has told it the delays were 'due to an issue with Tesla's data collection," which Tesla says has now been fixed. The new investigation follows another probe that began in October into potential problems with Tesla's self-driving technology in foggy weather and other low visibility conditions, which has led to several accidents including one death. That probe involves 2.5 million Tesla vehicles.

Feds investigate Tesla over inaccurate autopilot and FSD crash reports

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) just announced an investigation into Tesla regarding its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems, according to a report by Electrek . The road safety regulator says the probe involves inconsistencies with how the company reports crashes regarding the aforementioned systems. The NHTSA requires automakers to report crashes involving autonomous and driver assistance systems within five days of being notified of them. The agency claims that Tesla has sometimes waited months to report these crashes. It's worth remembering that the company's vehicles are outfitted with technology that automatically records and sends out data regarding a collision within minutes of an accident. Tesla has acknowledged the issue but says this is all due to an error in its systems, which has since been fixed. However, the agency will continue the investigation, citing that it will "assess whether any reports of prior incidents remain outstanding and whether the reports that were submitted include all of the required and available data." The NHTSA has good reason to not accept Tesla's explanation at face value. It currently has other open investigations into the company. There's one involving its remote parking feature that has allegedly caused a number of crashes and another looking into the efficacy of a recent software fix that followed a massive recall. Tesla also recently lost a wrongful death case involving an Autopilot crash in which it was revealed in testimony that the company lied and misled police and plaintiffs to hide pertinent data. The company leads other auto manufacturers by a country mile when it comes to crashes involving driver assistance systems. Tesla vehicles were involved in the vast majority of total incidents reported to the NHTSA from 2021 to 2024. That translates to over 2,300 crashes, compared to 55 for second-place GM.

ESCAPE Presale Live on Ethereum With $280K Raised, Hacken Audited and SolidProof KYC Verified

With an overwhelming 180,000 USD raised within 24 hours, ESCAPE's Ethereum presale is in Stage 3 at $0.01752, moving toward a final stage price of $0.03236. ESCAPE, a Web3 infrastructure token, has launched its presale on Ethereum and shared its roadmap for new blockchain tools. The project aims to make it easy to create tokens, check analytics, and give communities better visibility: all without needing complex coding or bridges. Mission and Vision According to the team, right now, the world of crypto can feel confusing and scattered - people often have to jump between many different apps and tools just to trade, track information, and stay safe. ESCAPE's goal is to make things simple by creating one all-in-one platform where everything you need is in one place. Strategy and Development The project's development strategy emerged from practical market experience, having initially deployed on an Ethereum Layer 2 solution where the team observed strong community demand for simplified, integrated tools. The original implementation achieved a market capitalization of 11.5 million dollars within two days, demonstrating significant market appetite for consolidated crypto trading infrastructure. Following the discontinuation of the initial Layer 2 platform, the team transitioned to Ethereum Layer 1 to ensure long-term sustainability and independence. ESCAPE emphasizes transparency and accountability. The platform has successfully completed an audit by Hacken that also has audited known companies like Binance, verification by Coinsult, and a KYC review conducted by SolidProof ensures the team is Doxxed. The development process is tracked via an open community board. During and after the presale, ESCAPE also offers a staking program with a sustainable 15% APY, giving early supporters a way to earn rewards. This rate was chosen carefully to ensure long-term growth and ecosystem stability. A collaboration with PAW Chain will extend ESCAPE's reach by enabling multichain deployment. This integration will allow token creators to launch identical contract addresses across more than 15 major blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Arbitrum, Base, and Avalanche - removing the need for bridges or wrapped tokens. Utilities and Deliverables The ESCAPE ecosystem, powered by the $ESCAPE token, is being rebuilt and expanded to include: EscapePad: a no-code token launchpad for Ethereum and future networks DEX Viewer: real-time charts, wallet activity, and volume analytics Wallet Inspector: cross-chain portfolio and transaction analysis Telegram Bots: customizable alerts for trades and holder milestones Mobile App: token deployment and monitoring on iOS and Android Token Visibility Tools: ecosystem-native placement features for projects 'ESCAPE is being built to simplify Web3 and restore trust through transparency,' said an ESCAPE spokesperson. 'The Ethereum relaunch and future multichain expansion represent more than a rebuild - they represent a stronger foundation for creators and communities to launch and grow without limitations.' About ESCAPE ESCAPE is a Web3 infrastructure platform focused on token creation, analytics, and visibility across multiple blockchains. Initially launched on a Layer 2 network in early 2025, ESCAPE grew to over 800 holders and an $11.5 million market cap before migrating to Ethereum. Today, ESCAPE operates with a transparent roadmap, audited smart contracts, and a community-first approach.
