Van driver runs light, kills golf cart driver in Sun City Center, troopers say
A cargo van driver ran a red light in Sun City Center Wednesday and crashed into a golf cart, killing its driver, troopers said.
The crash happened about 8 a.m. when a 31-year-old Tampa man driving a Ram ProMaster east on Sun City Center Boulevard failed to stop for a red light at Pebble Beach Boulevard and crashed into a Yamaha golf cart, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The golf cart driver, a 71-year-old Sun City Center woman, was heading north on Pebble Beach Boulevard and had a green light when she entered the intersection, troopers said. She died from her injuries at a local hospital.
The van driver was not injured. He had not been cited or criminally charged as of Tuesday afternoon but the investigation into the crash continued, according to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, a spokesperson for the highway patrol.
Gaskins declined to release the names of either driver and referred the Tampa Bay Times to the public records section of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that happened in Osceola County Wednesday morning. The crash was reported just before 6:30 a.m. on Florida Parkway near Birchwood Circle. Troopers said a 40-year-old Kissimmee woman was struck by a vehicle while running in the northbound lane of Florida Parkway. The driver who struck her fled the scene. 'Sometimes they pass so fast you don't have time to look or see them. It's very very, very dangerous.' Their homes are right in front of the fatal crash scene. 'It was really bad this morning,' Hernandez said. The victim was transported to Osceola Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not released. FHP reports a fatal crash in Baker County
