Nathan Franks wins The Q at Myrtle Beach, earns a spot in this week's PGA Tour event
Now, Franks will tee it up in his first PGA Tour event starting Thursday in the Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic, an opposite-field event at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The Q at Myrtle Beach was contested and recorded on Saturday, May 3. It was then produced into a three-hour video and streamed on YouTube on Monday.
Franks was the only golfer to break 70 in the event, shooting 3-under 69 to beat Joe Hooks and Tyler Watts by a shot. Trevor Gutschewski was solo fourth at 1 under, the only other of the 16 golfers to break par. Sean Walsh was the high finisher among the creators. He tied for fifth after an even-par 72.
In March of 2024, Franks was with his South Carolina teammates when they were involved in an accident while driving home from a tournament. The team van T-boned a car that ran a red light and Franks, who earlier that day won medalist honors at the Schenkel Invitational, was injured and missed the subsequent SEC Championship.

The second-year Myrtle Beach Classic will be opposite the signature event Truist Championship, formerly the Wells Fargo Championship).

Oake Manor golfers raise more than £5,000 at charity competition
Golfers in Somerset recently raised more than £5,000 for charity at a special competition. On Saturday, August 2, Oake Manor Golf Club members played for the Pete Littern Trophy, with proceeds benefiting the captains charity, Children's Hospice South West. The Acorns Golf Society, a group within the club, organised the event in honour of Pete Littern, a member who sadly died from COVID-19. The competition saw 180 golfers compete in teams of four. The top three teams all scored 102 points, but after a countback, the winners were Harvey Piper, Francis Barnsley, Bobby Jones, and Robin Koolhoven. In second place were Mike Bright, Matt Bright, Edward Winter, and Glyn Pearce, while Bernard Reed, George Rollinson, Steve Plowman, and Mark Rollinson secured third place. The event also featured spot prizes on 16 holes and an auction for complimentary rounds of golf for four at Saltford, Came Down, and Lyme Regis. Club captain Richard Goodman, Kevin Gratton, and Alan Cleland won these. Ashley Gains won the raffle for a free four-ball at Exeter Golf and Country Club. The Acorns Golf Society expressed gratitude to all the competitors, the Pro Shop, Green Staff, and sponsors for their generous contributions. In other events, the Sunday Stableford Competition on August 3 crowned Ben Gamlin as the winner with 43 points. Paul Avey also scored 43 points but came in second, while Michael Bell finished third with 41 points. Shane Bordier claimed victory in the Ladies Sunday Stableford Competition with 37 points, closely followed by Patricia Frazer and Kayleigh Avey, both with 36 points. The seniors competed for the Past Captains Trophy on Monday, August 4, with Patrick Francis emerging as the victor with 40 points, also winning Division Two. Division One honours went to Jeffrey Copp, who also scored 40 points. The ladies faced the challenge of playing a Stableford Competition from the men's yellow tees on Tuesday, August 5. Tamsin St George won Division One with 40 points, while the overall winner and Division Two champion was Pat Snelling with 43 points. The week concluded with the annual Fred Land Trophy Competition on Wednesday, August 6. Teams of three competed, with Antony Keitch, John Ashton, and Tim Gamlin winning with 87 points. Peter Male, David Male, and Clive Large came second with 86 points, while Mark Tydings, Robert Cornish, and Jonathon White also scored 86 points to secure third place.

Island teenager wins two trophies at regional junior golf event
A junior golfer is celebrating a double trophy win in the regional junior championships. Henry Oatley, from Osborne Golf Club, clinched the U16 handicap title and the Willard Trophy at the Hampshire Junior Championships at Hockley Golf Club in Twyford Down. The 19-handicapper from the Isle of Wight delivered a standout performance with a nett-par 66, putting him five under by lunchtime. But the competition was interrupted by a thunderstorm, forcing organisers to temporarily halt play and shelter competitors in the clubhouse. Once play resumed, Henry finished the remaining nine holes in just 31 strokes, two ahead of Romsey's Harrison Yeates. His round included four birdies in the first five holes, helping him secure the Willard Trophy. Henry's round also featured six birdies, two nett eagles, three bogeys, and a double bogey on the final hole. He is the first Isle of Wight golfer to win the U16 handicap title since Campbell Laird of Shanklin and Sandown in 2019, and only the third in the competition's history. The only other Isle of Wight winner was Ryan Harmer in 2013 while at Freshwater. Henry was the Isle of Wight's sole representative across all five age categories this year. The Pechell Trophy was claimed by Conor McKenna of Royal Guernsey, who shot two under to beat defending champion Albie Beeston of North Hants. Shanklin's Conor Richards was the last Isle of Wight player to win the title in 2015, also at Hockley. The first was R Underwood from Freshwater in 1975. Jordan Sundborg of Shanklin remains the last Isle of Wight golfer to win the men's county championship, having done so in 2017. He also won the U14s Championship in 2011, the only Isle of Wight winner in that category since its inception in 1951.
