Heartflow Plaque Analysis to be Covered by UnitedHealthcare Plans Nationwide

The updated coverage will become effective October 1, 2025 for patients with acute or stable chest pain and mild-to-moderate narrowing of coronary arteries (1-70% stenosis) found on coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). Expanded access will allow for greater adoption of Heartflow Plaque Analysis for clinicians to incorporate into their diagnostic and patient management protocols, delivering more personalized treatment.
Heartflow Plaque Analysis is the only FDA-cleared, AI-enabled, noninvasive plaque quantification tool with a reported 95% agreement with the gold standard, IVUS, in a prospective, global trial using blinded core lab adjudication.1 It is proven to change medical management in over half of patients beyond CCTA alone, helping physicians to improve outcomes.2

Products with opioid-like effects sold at gas stations may be banned as illicit substances
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is recommending banning a compound found in unregulated tablets, gummies and drink mixes sold online and at gas stations and convenience stores, the Trump administration announced this week. The substance, known as 7-OH, will be scheduled as an illicit drug if the Drug Enforcement Administration − a branch of the US Justice Department responsible for classifying drugs as controlled substances − approves the sanction after a review. "Dark innovations in chemistry have exacerbated the addiction crisis in this country," US Department of Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Jim O'Neil told reporters during a Tuesday, July 29, press conference in Washington DC. "Synthetic opioids like carfentanill and the substance we're here to take action on today: 7-Hydroxymitragynine." O'Neil said 7-hydroxymitragynine, 7-OH, is deliberately addictive and a powerful opioid agonist many times more potent than morphine. Calling it "a recipe for public health disaster," O'Neill, said 7-OH products are often sold without warnings or controls. "We've seen a disturbing rise in reports of overdoses, poisonings and emergency room visits linked to products containing 7-OH,' O'Neil said. "These substances are often sold online or in convenience stores with no quality control, no dosage control and no warnings." 'They've killed thousands and thousands' During the press conference, FDA commissioner Martin Makary spoke alongside US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., as they announced they planned to send warning letters to companies for illegally marketing products containing 7-OH in an effort to combat the country's opioid addiction problem. 'We have a history in public health of being asleep at the wheel,' Makary said. The compound 7-OH is a naturally occurring substance in the kratom plant (Mitragyna speciosa), according to the FDA, but only a minor component comprising less than 2% of the alkaloid content in natural kratom leaves. "However, 7-OH demonstrates substantially greater mu-opioid receptor potency than kratom's primary alkaloid constituent mitragynine, as well as other classical opioids such as morphine," the FDA wrote in its findings. Mu-opioid receptors, found in the brain and spinal cord, are primarily responsible for pain relief and other opioid effects like euphoria and respiratory depression, according to research published on the National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine. Over 64,000 pounds of butter recalled over undeclared milk, FDA says
More than 64,000 pounds of butter have been recalled due to potential undeclared milk allergens, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Food ingredient company Bunge North America recalled 1,800 cases of its NH European Style Butter Blend that were distributed at 12 centers located across the United States and one in Dominican Republic, a July 14 FDA alert reported. The FDA classified the recall under its second-highest risk warning on July 31 warning that consumption could pose temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Pardons, positions and power: Trump's donor list raises questions about pay-for-access in his administration
A new financial disclosure from a super PAC supporting President Donald Trump contains the name of the deep-pocket donors who have gained access to the White House. MAGA Inc.'s donor list includes Trump appointees, a mom who managed to get Trump to pardon her son, and cryptocurrency traders, according to a new report by the New York Times. The super PAC managed to pull some major donations for the president; according to the disclosure, MAGA Inc. raised more than $177 million for Trump since January. Some names on the list wound up working for Trump in his administration. Anjani Sinha, a friend of Trump's, was nominated to be the ambassador to Singapore. He donated $1 million to MAGA Inc. He hasn't been approved for the position yet, possibly because he struggled to answer questions about Singapore during his confirmation hearing. Cody Campbell, who is now on Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, donated half a million dollars to the super PAC. Josh Lobel, now sitting on Trump's Intelligence Advisory Board, donated $250,000. Several major donors are tied to the crypto industry, which has by and large found a friendly ally in Trump. According to the Times, Trump's inaugural committee raised an enormous $239 million, with approximately $18 million of that coming from crypto-related donors. According to the filing, donors working in cryptocurrencies accounted for $45 million of the donations reported through MAGA Inc. One donor alone — crypto entrepreneur Eric Schiermeyer — donated $1 million, and was given the chance to have dinner with Trump in Mar-a-Lago in March. The pair didn't just eat and chat — during the dinner, Schiermeyer apparently pitched Trump on an idea for a cryptocurrency called the "USA Token" that would be doled out to Americans for use in transactions. He reportedly wanted a government contract for his company to handle the task, according to the Times' reporting. He told the paper that he managed to get his idea in front of Trump face-to-face, so he considers it a win. 'I was able to say my piece, and the idea is clearly making the rounds, so mission accomplished from my view.' he told the Times. And then there's Elizabeth Fago, who handed over $1 million to MAGA Inc. and got herself a dinner with Trump. Three weeks later, her son, Paul Walczak, who pleaded guilty to tax fraud, was pardoned. A White House spokesperson who talked to the Times anonymously said that Fago's words, rather than her cash, convinced the president to give her son a break. 'He spoke directly to a mother who pleaded for her son, and when you're talking to a mother pleading for her son, that's a pretty powerful thing,' the source reportedly said. The Independent has requested comment from The White House. According to MAGA Inc., all of the apparent benefits that come along with shoveling money at Trump are just a coincidence. It told the Times that Trump doesn't treat donors any different from normal Americans. 'President Trump values his supporters and donors, but unlike politicians before him, he cannot be bought and works toward the best interest of the country,' it told the paper.
