7 diesel vehicles ordered for re-testing over excessive smoke emissions
Kedah DoE director Sharifah Zakiah Syed Sahab said the vehicles were among 26 inspected during the joint operation with partner agencies.
"A total of 26 diesel vehicles were inspected, and seven Notices of Instruction were issued under Section 48A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974. Owners of vehicles found to be emitting excessive smoke have been instructed to present their vehicles for re-testing at Puspakom (Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre) once corrective measures have been undertaken," she said in a statement.
She added that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Highway Patrol Police, the Road Transport Department, the National Anti-Drugs Agency, Puspakom, and Edgenta Infrastructure Services Bhd (EIS).
Sharifah Zakiah said that firm action would be taken against those responsible for environmental offences and any failure to comply with the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and its related regulations.

ALOR SETAR, July 28 — The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has issued a stern warning to e-hailing operators, Aist Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Maxim) and ID Applications Sdn Bhd (InDrive), to comply with all service requirements to operate in the country, including the mandatory E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP), or risk having their licences suspended or revoked. Minister Anthony Loke said both companies are currently under a three-month monitoring period, during which they are expected to demonstrate full compliance. 'Any operator facing enforcement action has the right to appeal to the MOT, and both companies have done so. 'We've outlined the corrective actions they must take, and we've observed that they've begun making improvements. As this is their first offence, we are giving them the opportunity to rectify the issues. 'However, if they continue to violate the conditions, their licences may be suspended or cancelled,' he told reporters after launching the Kota Setar service in Kota Setar today. Loke acknowledged that the offences committed by the two companies, primarily operating without EVP compliance, were serious. However, he said the ministry also took into account the potential impact on drivers and passengers who rely on both platforms. 'If we were to shut them down immediately without giving a chance for improvement, we'd be facing backlash from affected users. As with any decision, there will always be differing opinions,' he added. On April 24, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) issued a Notice of Licence Revocation to both Maxim and InDrive, with effect from July 24, after an audit revealed major compliance failures, particularly related to EVP requirements. Following this, both companies submitted appeals to the MOT, which accepted and granted them a three-month probationary period starting July 24 to fully adhere to service conditions, failing which would result in regulatory action, with no further leniency. — Bernama

Traffic diversion on Tuas Second Link for Singapore-Malaysia emergency exercise this Wednesday
SINGAPORE, July 21 — All three lanes of the Singapore to Malaysia-bound carriageway on the Tuas Second Link will be closed from 5.00am to 2.00pm on Wednesday, July 23, for a cross-border chemical spill emergency response exercise. Motorists heading to Malaysia will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway and are advised to plan their journeys in advance or use the Woodlands Checkpoint instead. The exercise, held under the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment (MSJCE), is a joint initiative by Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA), Malaysia's Department of Environment (DOE), and other agencies. It aims to test emergency response procedures to a simulated multi-vehicle collision involving trucks carrying chemicals along the Tuas Second Link. Authorities have urged motorists to follow directions from traffic marshals and stay updated through Singapore radio stations for traffic information. The public has also been advised not to be alarmed by the exercise, which forms part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two countries on environmental safety.

TAWAU, July 18 — The use of MYJalan, an application for road users to file complaints regarding road damage, is still low in Sabah, said Deputy Minister of Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan. In this regard, he said Sabahans who are facing problems with damaged roads, whether village, state or federal roads, should take advantage of MYJalan to ensure that damaged roads can be repaired immediately. 'There are too few people in Sabah who use the MYJalan application, I hope that they would access MYJalan application to express their dissatisfaction with the implementation of roads. 'We will forward complaints to the responsible parties, if the road involves a tourist area or an agricultural road, we will forward it to the relevant parties, if the road is an urban road, we will forward it to the relevant local authorities,' he said. He told reporters after reviewing the progress of the construction project of additional Army Forces Family Housing (RKAT) of various classes at Kabota Camp here yesterday. Ahmad said that MYJalan, which was developed by the government in 2023, would practise a no wrong door policy system and complaints regarding state, federal and village roads would be forwarded to the relevant parties for further action. Meanwhile, he said that concession companies that are given the responsibility of maintaining federal roads must ensure that damaged roads, including potholes, are repaired immediately. 'The concessionaires are required to patch any potholes within less than 24 hours, this is the standard operating procedure in the federal road maintenance agreement,' he added. Ahmad said the Works Ministry would not compromise on road safety and concessionaires must ensure that the road conditions are safe and smooth. — Bernama
