Roger Federer has officially smashed records off the court—becoming one of the rare billionaires in global sports. While his $130 million in prize money from 20 Grand Slam wins is remarkable, it's just the tip of the iceberg.
Federer's billion-dollar fortune was built by making power moves in the business world—long after the final point was played. The Swiss Maestro mastered the art of brand building, smart investments, and lucrative endorsements, creating a personal empire worth $1.3 billion. In this article, we break down the five most game-changing business strategies Federer used to become a global billionaire athlete, offering a blueprint for success beyond sports.
1. A Game-Changing $300 Million
Uniqlo
Deal
In 2018, Federer made global headlines by walking away from his long-term deal with Nike. Critics called it risky, but Federer had a smarter play. He signed a jaw-dropping $300 million, 10-year deal with Japanese retail giant Uniqlo—without any performance or appearance clauses. This means Federer earns millions annually, even in retirement. The partnership allowed Federer to build a lifestyle brand rather than just being another sports ambassador.

Today, the Uniqlo deal is a masterclass in long-term brand value.
2. The $500 Million Sneaker Bet on 'On'
When his wife introduced him to Swiss running shoe startup 'On,' Federer didn't just sign a sponsorship deal—he became a co-owner. In 2019, Federer took a 3% stake in On instead of a payout. Fast forward to 2021, the company went public with a staggering $11 billion valuation. Federer's stake is now valued at over $500 million, with On continuing to soar globally.
This move shows how Federer evolved from brand ambassador to equity shareholder, reaping exponential returns.
3. Building the Money-Making Machine: Team8
In 2013, Federer took athlete representation into his own hands by co-founding Team8, a management agency, alongside his trusted agent Tony Godsick. Team8 doesn't just manage Federer—it scouts and represents elite players like Coco Gauff and rising stars, creating a revenue-generating platform. Team8 also co-produces premium events like the Laver Cup, giving Federer equity in global sports entertainment.
This brilliant vertical integration means Federer profits from multiple levels of the sports industry.
4. Breaking into Luxury Fashion with Oliver Peoples
Federer's business genius doesn't stop at sports. In 2023, he teamed up with luxury eyewear brand Oliver Peoples under Essilor Luxottica to launch the exclusive RF x Oliver Peoples collection. With sleek designs inspired by Federer's personal style, the brand quickly became a hit among luxury shoppers. This move expanded Federer's brand identity into high-end fashion, showing how sports stars can thrive in luxury markets.
5. Cashing in Big on Premium Endorsements and the Laver Cup
Federer's off-court fortune is supercharged by long-term global endorsements with powerhouse brands like Rolex, Mercedes-Benz, Moët & Chandon, Barilla, Wilson, and Lindt. In 2023 alone, Federer banked over $95 million from endorsements. Plus, the Laver Cup—co-founded by Federer—is now a global tennis event generating millions in sponsorships and ticket sales. Federer's ability to keep cash flowing even after retirement proves why he's called the 'Billion Dollar Gentleman' of tennis.
Roger Federer didn't just dominate tennis—he reinvented athlete entrepreneurship. With sharp business instincts and world-class brand-building skills, Federer turned his sports legacy into an unstoppable financial empire. His journey from tennis champion to billionaire businessman proves one thing: true greatness isn't just about winning titles—it's about creating lasting value. Federer's business playbook is a masterclass in wealth-building, inspiring athletes and entrepreneurs worldwide to think beyond the game and invest in their future.

IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah certain for Manchester Test, Anshul Kamboj primed for debut

Jasprit Bumrah (PTI Photo) MANCHESTER: The pitches in the practice area at Old Trafford here were visibly damp on Monday morning, but the good news is the sun broke out for the first time after two days of wet weather. The Indian players treaded cautiously. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a few balls in the nets before deciding to go to the centre square and bowl on a drier run-up area. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! It has been an uncertain week for the Indian team. Injuries to Arshdeep Singh, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy have hurt their plans going into the fourth Test match here on Wednesday, and Mohammed Siraj confirmed that Bumrah will be playing the Test match. 'Jassi bhai (Bumrah) has to play now,' Siraj joked at the media briefing. Rishabh Pant too donned the wicketkeeping gloves and went through extensive drills. Anshul Kamboj, having joined the team two nights ago, was the centre of attention during India's practice session. Injuries, rain, availability concerns: Team India on edge in Manchester | Exclusive updates ahead of 4th Test The 24-year-old medium pacer from Haryana appears to have a very good chance of making his Test debut. He bowled with the new ball in the same net as Siraj, Bumrah and Shardul Thakur. Prasidh Krishna only bowled later in the session. Kamboj looked particularly impressive, hitting consistent lengths for over an hour while bowling to India's top batters Yashasvi Jaiswal , Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo Had it not been for a shin niggle, Kamboj would have stayed back in England after the conclusion of the India 'A' tour which preceded this series. He was impressive while playing for India 'A' and is known for bowling long and accurate spells in domestic cricket. The nets on Monday were both about trials and training. Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Jaiswal, Gill and Pant batted simultaneously. They took turns to face the throwdown specialist, lead pacers and the spinners. Vice-captain Pant was particularly vocal in the nets. He was constantly chatting with his fellow batters and acknowledged the bowlers' efforts. Gill too had an eye on everyone and was involved in talking about how each one felt while batting. Gill and Pant had an intense discussion before hitting the nets. It is obvious the team management is in a fix over getting the combination right. Captain Gill believed he had struck the balance in the second and third Tests. Gill and Pant had an intense discussion before hitting the nets. The morning was all about monitoring how each player could fit in. Akash Deep, recovering from a groin injury, ran gingerly in the warmups before he bowled alone on the centre square, with the physios supervising him. Siraj later said a call will be taken on Akash on Tuesday morning. There's a tendency to go back to the combination India played in the first Test of the series. Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak went up to Sudharsan and patted him for an intense batting session. Both Nair and Sudharsan started out in the slip cordon during the slip-catching drills. Anshul Kamboj Joins India Nets After Nitish's Injury | Debut Incoming at Manchester? 'I don't know about the combination yet. Akash Deep has an issue with his groin but he bowled for quite some time at the centre square. Anshul has come in because Arshdeep hurt his hand. I just want to wish him good luck,' Siraj said. The bowling attack appeared to have settled down after the first three Tests. India were even prepared for Bumrah to sit out of this game. There's a strong chance the pace attack could look different. 'The way the pace attack is starting to look different, we are talking about being consistent with our line and lengths. They played with a lot of patience in the last Test but we can't think about it. If someone new comes in, he too has to just focus on hitting the good areas and stay patient,' Siraj said. Mohammed Siraj press conference: Akash Deep and Bumrah update, on India vs Pakistan, warning to ENG With Reddy getting ruled out of the series, the team management has to be convinced Washington Sundar is ready to take on more responsibility as a batter at No. 7 if they don't go in with both Sudharsan and Nair at No. 3 and No. 6 respectively. Kamboj has the ability to contribute with the bat down the order. The issue is whether he can be consistent enough to be the third pacer, since Thakur can only be a fourth pacer. It appears the Indian team has prepared two sets of combinations. They will wait for Tuesday's practice session to firm up the XI they want to go in with. Asian stocks firm; Wall Street rally boosts sentiment; crude oil slips on trade worries

Asian markets hovered near a four-year high on Tuesday, supported by Wall Street's record close and optimism around upcoming corporate earnings. Investors also tracked global trade developments, especially US tariff talks with key partners, Reuters reported. Japanese markets reopened after a holiday, reacting calmly to weekend election results where the ruling coalition lost in the upper house. Despite the setback, Japan's Prime Minister pledged to stay on. Japanese stocks opened higher before settling into modest gains, while bonds remained steady as the outcome was mostly in line with expectations. The yen, which had rallied 1% on Monday, held steady around 147.46 per dollar on Tuesday. MSCI's comprehensive index of Asia-Pacific shares excluding Japan achieved its peak since October 2021 during early Asian trading but showed minimal movement. The index has increased by nearly 16% this year. The previous night, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq achieved record-high closures, driven by Alphabet and other major corporations ahead of numerous earnings reports this week. Investor attention remains fixed on tariff talks as the August 1 deadline approaches, with the European Union now considering a wider range of possible countermeasures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Mr. Chirag Jain never exits a trade in loss — even when he's wrong TradeWise Learn More Undo The euro remained steady at $1.1689, following a 0.5% increase in the previous session, yet remained below its near four-year peak reached earlier this month. US President Donald Trump reportedly considered firing Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell last week but ultimately backed off, concerned about potential market turmoil. The Fed is expected to keep interest rates unchanged at its July meeting, though rate cuts could follow later this year. All eyes are now on Powell's speech on Tuesday for any signs of future policy shifts. Goldman Sachs strategists predict the Fed will begin cutting rates by 25 basis points in September, with three reductions expected, assuming inflation stays in check and concerns over the Fed's independence don't escalate. Meanwhile, crude oil prices slipped on fears of a possible trade clash between the US and the European Union, reducing fuel consumption. Brent crude futures decreased 0.35%, reaching $68.97 a barrel, whilst US West Texas Intermediate crude declined 0.31% to $66.99 per barrel. Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen pulls out of US Open after elbow surgery

Last Updated: New York, Jul 22 (AP) Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the US Open, two days after announcing she had arthroscopic surgery on her right elbow because of 'persistent pain." The sixth-ranked Zheng was coming off a first-round loss at Wimbledon last month. 'Over the past months, I've been dealing with persistent pain in my right elbow during training and matches," the right-handed 22-year-old from China said on social media Saturday. 'Despite trying various treatments to manage it, the discomfort never fully went away." Zheng said she anticipated her recovery would take months, so the exit from the year's last Grand Slam tournament was not a surprise. The US Open begins August 24. She was replaced in the field by France's Leolia Jeanjean. AP SSC SSC Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
