TWS are entering a new phase of life with their third EP 'Try With Us'

Vogue Singapore21-04-2025

'I don't think starting your twenties is always filled with just beautiful and happy emotions; there's also despair and failure. But I believe that all of that is what makes youth meaningful.' Aptly worded by Jihoon, it's a refreshingly nuanced takeaway for the six members of TWS, namely Youngjae, Jihoon, Dohoon, Kyungmin, Hanjin, and Shinyu, who are all on the brink of their twenties, currently toeing the line between boyhood and adulthood. Since their debut early last year with EP Sparkling Blue —and viral lead title 'plot twist'—the rookie group have been steadfast in staking their claim to the 'boyhood pop' sound that embodies the spirit of youth, sharing songs and stories of their school and adolescent years. Their following EP, Summer Beat , truly sprung things into action in June, feeling very much like summer with songs like 'hey! hey!' and 'If I'm S, Can You Be My N?'. All capturing the unbridled mood of teens with the fighting spirit to take on the days ahead of them—no holds barred on how they see the future. And in the later months of the year? Their whirlwind school series was brought to a nostalgic close, with the charming tune 'Last Festival'.
Like the cherry blossoms that have begun to bloom on the streets of Seoul, these six boys are moving into a new chapter of their lives—and their music. Enter TWS's third mini album, Try With Us, and led by title track ' Countdown!' . Just like the album's namesake, the music encapsulates a period of their lives that they acknowledge will be trying and riddled with its own complexities, but the most important thing would just be to face it with ardour.

So as for what this chapter brings for TWS? Here's to finding out. Amid the release of Try With Us , the group shares with Vogue Singapore about what their new music brings, their favourite B-side tracks and what they hope to achieve next. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
1 / 9 It's been just over a year since you first debuted. How has the year been?
Shinyu: It's been truly fulfilling to spend a year full of amazing experiences that I've always dreamed of. With this new album, I'm excited to return to our fans, 42s, with great music and performances that we've poured our hearts into.
Hanjin: From our very first stage to the moments we met 42s—every second has been so meaningful and gratifying. Having our members by my side has always given me strength throughout this whole journey. We've worked hard to show our best selves again this time, so please look forward to it! 2 / 9 Congratulations on the release of your third mini album, 'Try With Us'. Tell us more about it.
Jihoon: It reflects our transition into young adulthood on the brink of our twenties. I don't think starting your twenties is always filled with just beautiful and happy emotions; there's also despair and failure. But I believe that all of that is what makes youth meaningful. That's why we wanted to share a message—that no matter what form the challenge takes, it's okay to try, fall, and grow through it—and to express those feelings through our performance.
Youngjae: This album captures a wide range of emotions and experiences of what twenty-year-olds go through, while also carrying TWS's vibrant and youthful energy through its refreshing sounds. I hope you'll check it out. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
3 / 9 Could you share with us a bit more about your title track, 'Countdown!'?
Kyungmin: 'Countdown!' expresses our fearless spirit as we step into our twenties, grounded in TWS's unique and refreshing energy. The choreography highlights our powerful synchronisation, while also reflecting the genuine fun we have performing together.
Dohoon: This track embodies TWS's confident and bold energy. We hope to share this energy with listeners and also showcase how much we've grown since last year. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
4 / 9 What are your personal favourite B-side tracks?
Shinyu: I'd say it's 'Lucky to be loved'. The lyrics are deeply moving and I'm excited to show its performance that beautifully complements the emotion of the song.
Dohoon: 'Lucky to be loved'. It reveals a new, emotional side of TWS that we've never shown before.
Youngjae: I'd choose 'Now Playing'. I personally think it's a hidden gem among the tracks in Try With Us . The lyrics are filled with excitement and it perfectly captures the thrill and heart-racing feelings of going to your first late-night movie.
Hanjin: My favourite B-side track is 'Lucky to be loved'. It's about the gratitude you feel for the people who stayed by your side even in your most uncertain moments and the warmth that their love brings. Every time I listen to it, I think of our 42s and the members, and it makes me realise how lucky I am. The melody is very emotional and calm, yet it carries an energy that grows on you more as you listen to it.
Jihoon: 'Go back' is my personal favourite out of the B-side tracks. It tells a relatable story that most people have experienced at one point in their life—like the first moment of falling in love—and I think TWS's unique style brings it to life in an enjoyable way.
Kyungmin: There's a bittersweet quality to 'Lucky to be loved' that's unlike anything we've expressed before, which makes me more eager to share it with everyone. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
5 / 9 Let's talk about your journey since debut so far—what have you learned about yourselves as TWS over the years?
Shinyu: Being a part of TWS, I've learned a lot of valuable life lessons from both my members and our staff along the way, which has helped me become a much calmer person.
Kyungmin: I think I've developed a stronger sense of responsibility as a member of TWS. As I spent more time reflecting on myself—learning what I like and don't like—I've also come to understand myself better. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
6 / 9 Who inspires your musical journey as idols? Any advice that you've really taken to heart?
Jihoon: I'm constantly striving to grow musically and broaden my spectrum, so I enjoy listening to a wide range of artists and drawing inspiration from all of their music.
Youngjae: Rather than getting technical advice from our seniors, I've received more guidance about teamwork. I learned a lot about what it takes for a group to last a long time and stay strong together as a team. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
7 / 9 How did you feel meeting your fans at your first fan-meet earlier this year?
Hanjin: I was really nervous when we stood on stage for our first fan-meet, but seeing the faces of our 42s warmed my heart instantly. Being able to see and feel their love and support in-person made me promise myself to work even harder. It's definitely a moment I'll never forget and I hope we can meet our 42s more often in the future.
Dohoon: It brought me so much joy to finally share the performances and fun moments we had prepared for so long in front of so many 42s. I sincerely hope we'll have more opportunities like that in the future.
8 / 9 What are you hoping to achieve in the near future?
Dohoon: I'd really love to connect more deeply and frequently with 42s so that even more people will be drawn to TWS's diverse charms and choose to join us on our journey.
Youngjae: It's my hope that more people will get to discover and fall in love with the hidden charms and unique personalities of each and every member of TWS. Courtesy of Pledis Entertainment
9 / 9 What is something you'll like to challenge yourselves with next?
Shinyu: I truly hope we'll have more chances to meet 42s through concerts and tours in the near future. I'm excited to create even more unforgettable memories together, hopefully, soon.
Jihoon: I'm eager to explore creating even more music and discovering new sounds as I continue to grow as an artist.

Seungmin of Stray Kids on his latest campaign with Burberry

We're currently in the throes of summer. Of tank tops, flip flops, colourful popsicles and music festivals all around—especially in Britain, now with the weather on their side. From Glastonbury and Leeds to BST Hyde Park and Isle of Wight, bands and artists have been congregating in a formidable lineup, all to perform live in front of throngs of festival goers. Celebrating the universal phenomenon is Burberry, with its latest campaign 'Burberry Festival'. 'Think of the campaign like a collage,' says chief creative officer, Daniel Lee. 'Candid moments capturing off-duty fans and headline acts in between gigs.' Shot against a set of sound systems by photographer Drew Vickers, the campaign features a cast from the intertwining worlds of music and fashion, including Liam Gallagher and his children, Alexa Chung, Cara Delevingne and South Korean star Seungmin. In this case, art imitates life for the Stray Kids member, who is all too familiar with playing at a music festival with his members. Below, he shares with Vogue Singapore his time shooting for the latest Burberry campaign and what he loves most about music festivals. How would you describe the vibe of the shoot? Everyone was so supportive and really seemed to enjoy and cheer on my energy, which brought me so much strength. I wanted to stay in London longer! Seungmin in 'Burberry Festival'. Courtesy of Burberry Describe your look for the campaign. The classic, vibrant, youthful, and clean Burberry vibe? I feel a bit shy saying it myself… What was the best moment of the day for you? When I took the mic and filmed a performance scene with an Oasis song playing, I really got into it, and I was super happy because everyone seemed to enjoy it! Seungmin behind the scenes of 'Burberry Festival'. Courtesy of Burberry What's the most memorable moment you've had while performing at a music festival? It would be the moment on stage at last year's festival. The memory of performing in front of countless fans with the sunset in the background still remains so clear to me. The sight of the audience's hands glowing in the sunset really tugged at my heart! Accompanied by the band's sound surrounding us, our music felt truly grand. Is there a song that you feel hits differently when performed at a festival? I love performing 'S-Class'. It may be because the song holds a sense of pride, but even when the song isn't in the language of the audience, they still sing along and relate with it, making it feel even more special! View this post on Instagram A post shared by BST Hyde Park (@bsthydepark) You've played some iconic festivals so far, including BST Hyde Park in London. What do you take away from those experiences? It's always so amazing and we are so grateful to see how much love people pour into our music and countless other things even from so far away. Even though we all speak different languages, it seems that our hearts have become similar as they are connected through music! How important are festivals in connecting fans from different parts of the world? Since it's not an opportunity that comes easily, I think the big stage of a music festival is a really important and rare chance for artists to connect with fans.

Suni Lee on battling kidney disease, finding balance and being a lululemon girl Beauty, Wellness

Last year, the world watched on as the women's team from USA took home gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Amongst the athletes, Suni Lee was a clear standout and fan favourite, not just for being the first Hmong American to compete at the Olympics but for her triumphant performance that led to a bronze medal for uneven bars. It was a moving win like no other, especially given how a year prior to the sporting event, Lee was battling a rare kidney disease. One that was devastatingly crippling, where she couldn't even put on pair of grips, let alone feel like she could ever compete again. Of course, Lee would go on to defy every odd, whilst openly advocating for her rare disease. 'Looking back, that time was really scary and uncertain. Being diagnosed with rare kidney diseases and having to step away from gymnastics was tough, I wasn't sure if I'd compete again. But with the support of my family, doctors, and coaches, I took it day by day and focused on my health. Making it to Paris and competing again showed me the power of resilience—sometimes it's about adapting and trusting the process, even when things don't go as planned,' says the 22-year-old. Courtesy of lululemon This year, post-Olympics, Lee is enjoying life to the fullest, just like any vivacious twenty-something. She's been glowing courtside at a few NBA games, reigning as a beauty queen on TikTok and has recently been named a lululemon ambassador with an Align campaign in tow. Like many women, Lee is not immune to the charms of the American athleisure brand, which makes this partnership a natural fit. 'Even before this ambassadorship, I have every single product in every single colour. A s an athlete, I've always appreciated how their gear supports performance without sacrificing comfort or style. But what really drew me in is their commitment to wellness as a whole—not just physical fitness, but also mental health and self-expression.' Below, the six-time Olympic medalist speaks to Vogue Singapore on her favourite Lululemon pieces, wellness practices and what her definition of strength looks like. Congratulations on your new Align campaign with lululemon that marks the product line's 10th anniversary. Tell us about your experience on set that day. Shooting the Align campaign was such a fun and empowering experience. The energy on set was so positive, everyone really made me feel comfortable and confident, which I think comes through in the photos. What I loved most was how true to me everything felt. The Align collection is all about softness and movement, so it didn't feel like I was 'posing'. It felt natural, like I was just being myself. It was a day full of laughter, good vibes, and a reminder of how powerful it is to feel comfortable in your own skin. What goes into your training as an athlete and gymnast and how does lululemon come in? Training as a gymnast is incredibly demanding as it is a mix of strength and flexibility, coupled with endurance and precision. I'm a huge fan of cross-training too, so I like to do things outside of the gym. Every day looks a little different, but there's always a focus on pushing my limits while also listening to my body. That balance is really important to me, and it's something lululemon supports in such a real way. Their gear moves with me through every part of my day, from high-intensity training to recovery and even rest. I rely on pieces like those from the Align collection when I need something soft and breathable during stretching or lighter workouts, and the brand's performance wear when I'm going full out. But more than that, I love that lululemon encourages a holistic approach to wellness, reminding me that taking care of my mental health and finding moments of stillness are just as important as the physical side of training. Courtesy of lululemon As a gymnast, athlete and public figure, how has it been like coping with stressors from a young age? What is your mindset when it comes to that? It hasn't always been easy, especially growing up in the spotlight while competing at the highest levels. As a gymnast and public figure, there's pressure from expectations, from social media, even from myself. But over the years, I've learned how important it is to give myself grace and protect my mental space. I've really worked on shifting my mindset from perfection to progress. It's okay to have hard days, and it's okay to step back when you need to. Surrounding myself with the right support system like family, coaches, and friends, and practising things like mindfulness and journaling have helped me stay grounded. I've also learned that strength isn't just about what you do in the gym, it's how you care for your whole self. How do you unwind? What gives you comfort during the strenuous times of rigorous training? I find comfort in simple things like spending time with my family and close friends who help me stay grounded. I also love journaling and practising mindfulness to clear my mind and reset. Sometimes, just putting on some music and moving at my own pace, whether it's stretching or Pilates, helps me recharge. It's those little moments of calm that keep me balanced and ready to take on whatever comes next. Courtesy of lululemon What is next for Suni? What's next for me is all about growth, both as an athlete and as a person. I want to keep pushing my limits, but also focus on using my platform to create a positive impact and spreading goodness. Being part of the lululemon community has been incredible because it's filled with like-minded people who believe in wellness, mindfulness, and supporting each other's journeys. You can expect to see me continuing to advocate for holistic health, inspiring others to find balance in their lives, and further collaborating with lululemon on projects that empower people to move, breathe, and be their best selves every day.
