Two die, one critical after a gas leak at Pharma City
Anakapalli: In a tragic accident that took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharmacy, Parawada in Anakapalli, two died and one is said to be in critical condition following a gas leak at Sai Sreyas Pharmaceuticals Private Limited. At the time of incident three employees became unconscious after inhaling the gas. The deceased were identified as Parimi Chandrasekhar, safety manager from Telangana, and Saragadam Kumar, safety officer from Munagapaka. Meanwhile, another worker Baidu Baisal, a helper from Odisha, is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were shifted to King George Hospital mortuary. Expressing shock over the incident, BJP state president Daggubati Purandeswari enquired about the health condition of the worker undergoing treatment. She called for a safety audit in industries so that recurrence of such accidents could be avoided. The BJP state president appealed to the state government to provide quality treatment to the victim. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha contacted district collector Vijaya Krishnan and enquired about the cause of the accident. The Home Minister assured that the government will extend support to the victims' families.
Visiting the victim families, former minister Gudivada Amarnath expressed concern over recurring industrial accidents at the Pharma City. 'In a series of accidents held in the recent past, many lives were lost.
The government should take steps to carry out safety audits at frequent intervals so that employees' lives will be saved at least in future,' he commented, adding that the management and government should take the responsibility of extending all possible support to the victims' families. Meanwhile, trade union leaders alleged that the management failed in following safety standards and demanded a compensation of Rs.1 crore for the families of the deceased.

Kolhapur: Commencement of admission for the first year of the Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS) programme started at Maharashtra's first govt Yoga and Naturopathy College and Hospital at Uttur in Ajara tehsil of Kolhapur district, with its inauguration on Friday. A well-equipped library, a naturopathy therapy centre, an auditorium, a treatment centre, a diet centre, a swimming pool, hostels for 200 boys and 200 girls, a diagnostic centre, a multipurpose hall, a yoga hall, and a yoga-based walking track will be SET UP on the campus. Speaking about the ongoing developments related to CPR Hospital Kolhapur, Mushrif said, "The hospital is being transformed on the lines of Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital for the convenience of patients. The renovation work at CPR is expected to be completed by Diwali, ensuring that no needy patient in the district will need to travel to Mumbai or Pune for medical treatment." IMA writes to Tata Group, seeks equal compensation for med students affected by crash
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat state branch of the Indian Medical Association (GSB-IMA) has written to N. Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, on Friday, demanding compensation for medical students affected by the Air India flight 171 crash, similar to that announced for passengers. In its letter, the GSB-IMA appreciated Air India's gesture of offering Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of passengers who died in the tragedy and funding the renovation of the BJMC college hostel. "We humbly request you to also consider extending financial assistance and necessary support to the medical students present at the crash site who were injured or lost their lives in this unfortunate event," the letter states. Signed by Dr Mehul Shah, president of GSB-IMA and other office-bearers, it further adds, "These individuals were not only victims but also future pillars of our healthcare system, and their well-being and families deserve similar care and support. City residents face water shortage, rely on tankers
Jaipur: Residents are grappling with growing water crisis as temperature soars. Despite the Bisalpur water supply scheme meant to provide relief, the public health engineering department (PHED) has limited water supply timings to just 30 minutes, worsening the situation in several city wards. Arvind Methi, councillor of Ward 71 in the Walled City, said, "Our ward covers the Gangauri Bazaar area, where groundwater level has dropped drastically. While PHED tankers sometimes arrive, we often arrange private tankers ourselves for Rs 400–500." Sannu Chaudhary, councillor of Ward 97 under JMC-Greater, added, "Bisalpur pipelines were laid here, but the actual supply is negligible. We've raised the issue repeatedly, but nothing changes." In Ward 65 of JMC-H, councillor Dashrath Singh Shekhawat shared, "We need water tankers daily. The corporation sometimes sends them, but people frequently end up spending Rs 500 out of their own pockets." Sanjay Saini, owner of a private water tanker company, explained, "Private tankers operate based on demand. Normally, a tanker costs Rs 300–450, but during peak demand, it can go up to Rs 1000." The crisis is impacting everyday life. Geeta Devi, a resident of Ward 76, said, "We stand in queues every morning with buckets. School-going children don't have enough water, and daily chores are left undone." Rekha Agarwal, who lives near Subhash Chowk, added, "Earlier we'd get water every day for 1 hour.
