Virat Kohli secretly plots Faf du Plessis' dismissal, signals for a catch; then grabs it himself in very next over

Hindustan Times27-04-2025

For long, Virat Kohli shared the dressing room with Faf du Plessis during the latter's time with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Kohli opened the innings alongside Faf during their time together at RCB, and justifiably knows the South African's batting approach. And so, when Faf – now with Delhi Capitals – returned to face his former franchise RCB during Sunday night's match in Delhi, Kohli didn't shy from sharing some insider tips for the bowlers to plan Faf's wicket.
Kohli was captured on broadcast cameras gesturing towards the bowler that Faf is unlikely to play the sweep shot, and also made a catching gesture. Interestingly, in the very next over, Kohli grabbed the catch at long-on to help dismiss Faf.
Faf returned to the DC XI after missing a few matches for the side due to an illness. However, the South African looked far from threatening throughout his stay at the crease, scoring at a strike rate of less than 100 throughout the Powerplay. Faf struggled to get going throughout his innings and was eventually dismissed by Krunal Pandya for just 22 off 26 deliveries. However, Abhishek Porel gave DC an electrifying start, racing to 26 off merely 11 balls before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood.
The Australian, relentless with his hard lengths, took three balls to get the breakthrough as he cramped Porel to have him caught behind down the leg side.
Karun Nair, who began with a short arm pull off Hazlewood for a boundary, played an ordinary shot off Yash Dayal in the following over, and his mishit was pouched at mid-wicket.
The spinners came into operation after the powerplay, and overs 7-10 were the phase when RCB were able to stem the flow of runs. They conceded just 20 runs off the four overs from Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya, who got rid of du Plessis in that period.
DC only gained some momentum towards the end of the innings, thanks to Tristan Stubbs's (34) blitzkrieg.
The 18th and 19th over from Hazlewood and Dayal yielded 17 and 19 runs, enabling DC to cross the 160-run mark.
KL Rahul was DC's highest run-scorer in their innings, scoring 41; however, he faced 39 deliveries to reach the score.

Image via Instagram/ Costeen Hatzi At 30, Australian tennis maverick Nick Kyrgios is stepping off the court and into the spotlight—this time, revealing that his high-profile romance with influencer Costeen Hatzi has hit its final serve. In an intimate and candid fan Q&A session on Instagram, the Wimbledon finalist opened up about the details of his relationship and break-up, wishing his ex 'nothing but the best' and reminiscing on 'incredible memories.' Since pairing up in December 2021, after a 'mirror sale' ignited sparks between the attractive duo, Kyrgios and Hatzi captured headlines with their glow-up moments featured in Netflix's Break Point docuseries. But as whispers of a breakup swirled online from April, fans have been desperate for confirmation. Now, Kyrgios has officially broken his silence—with humor, grace, and a newly shaven head to boot. Yet by April, clear signals emerged: both removed each other's initials from their Instagram bios, and Hatzi dropped cryptic TikToks referencing marital tensions. WTC Final, AUS vs SA: Kagiso Rabada becomes only second player to achieve this unique feat in Lord's 141-year history

Rabada claimed a total of 9 wickets against AUS, including a fifer in the first innings (Image via AP /Kirsty Wigglesworth) South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has etched his name alongside West Indies legend Gordon Greenidge as the only two players in the 141-year history of Lord's to appear on the iconic honours boards in both the home and away dressing rooms. Rabada 's latest feat came during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the historic ground. The 30-year-old delivered a masterclass, claiming 5 for 51 in the first innings and following it up with another four wickets in the second, helping South Africa stay competitive against a strong Australian side. In Test cricket, players who score a century or take a five-wicket haul at Lord's earn the privilege of having their name inscribed in gold lettering on the famous honours boards - an accolade revered by cricketers worldwide. Before Rabada, this rare distinction belonged solely to Gordon Greenidge. The legendary opener's scores of 214 not out and 103 for the West Indies against England in 1984 and 1988 are immortalised on the away honours board. Lesser known, however, is Greenidge's appearance on the home board — a result of his 122 while playing for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against the Rest of the World in 1987. Bold prediction! Astrologer Greenstone Lobo picks winner of Australia vs South Africa WTC Final 2025 Rabada, too, was already on the away board for his five-wicket haul (5 for 52) against England in 2022. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sunderland: If You Were Born Between 1945-1974 You Could Be Eligible For This British Seniors Read More Undo But this time, a unique twist added to the story. As South Africa were assigned the home dressing room for the WTC final, Rabada's first-innings five-for earned him a place on the home board as well — making him only the second player in Lord's history to achieve this honour. A piece of sticky batting tape with Rabada's name written on it has been temporarily attached to the board for his figures of 5-51, as tradition dictates during the match. The gold lettering will follow soon, reported the BBC. Poll Do you believe Rabada's doping ban affected his performance? Yes No, he has fully recovered Rabada's achievement is even more poignant given his recent redemption arc, bouncing back strongly after serving a doping ban for using a recreational drug — an incident Australian captain Pat Cummins confirmed his side would not exploit as a sledging tactic. 'That's not our style. I doubt that will come up,' Cummins said before the final. Cricket greats have not held back in their praise. Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting likened Rabada's prowess at Lord's to that of Glenn McGrath, who famously exploited the unique slope at the ground to devastating effect. 'Glenn McGrath was exactly the same at Lord's. He loved bowling there and mastered the slope from both ends — something not talked about as much as it should be,' Ponting told the ICC. 'These big games are about big-name players standing up, and Rabada did exactly that. ' Temba Bavuma on picking Ngidi over Paterson for WTC Final: 'Tough decision' Reflecting on his name appearing in both dressing rooms, Rabada called the achievement 'cool', underlining the personal significance of joining such a niche club in cricket's spiritual home.

RCB's Senior Official Nikhil Sosale Granted Interim Bail By Karnataka High Court: Report

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's senior official, Nikhil Sosale, who was arrested over the June 4 stampede during the team's maiden IPL title triumph celebrations, has been granted interim bail by the Karnataka High Court, according to ESPNcricinfo. More than a week after the incident, Sosale and two officials from DNA Networks, the event management company associated with RCB, were released on specific conditions, the most notable of which was the surrender of their passports, according to ESPNcricinfo. ESPNCricinfo also reported that Sosale and all RCB officials who are part of the management team are likely to undergo an internal investigation by the parent company, Diageo. The incident occurred when thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their favourite players. Eleven people lost their lives and several were injured in a stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy stadium as a huge crowd of nearly 3 lakh people had gathered to witness the victory celebration of RCB. The Karnataka Police had filed an FIR against the Karnataka Cricket Board Administrative Committee, RCB, among others, concerning the stampede incident. Last Saturday, two top Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials, secretary A. Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, resigned, citing "moral responsibility." KSCA President Raghuram Bhat confirmed the development, saying that the resignations were discussed and accepted during an emergency meeting. He assured that the cricket body will cooperate with the investigation. "When the inquiry takes place, we have already told the government and the High Court that we will never shy away from anything that is there. We are ready to cooperate with the investigation," Bhat told reporters. The Bengaluru Police also filed the first information report (FIR) against the popular IPL franchise last Thursday, as per ESPNCricinfo. The police have said that RCB was not given permission to conduct the event at the stadium. RCB has been listed as the first accused in the FIR, along with DNA Entertainment, the franchise's event partners, and the KSCA, which controls the stadium. RCB expressed "heartfelt condolences" to the families of the deceased in a statement, and since then has resorted to silence over the matter.
