I had already asked for....': R Ashwin adds twist to Sanju Samson's CSK and RR IPL trade news
New Delhi: Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday took to his YouTube channel 'Ash Ki Baat' to react to rumours that he and Sanju Samson might swap teams for the IPL 2026 season. Media reports claimed that Samson has sought a release or trade from Rajasthan Royals (RR), while Ashwin might leave Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Reports also said that CSK is showing interest in picking up Samson, which fuelled the buzz around this potential swap. Contract and renewal process
Ashwin explained that after every IPL season, the franchise sends emails to the players, containing a review of their performance, expectations for the next season, and the option to renew the contract. Players can express their wish at this time whether they want to stay with the franchise or not. According to Ashwin, he had just sought 'clarity' after the season ended. 'The rumours don't come from the player, but from here and there or from the franchise,' he said. Price difference and possibility of trade
On a possible swap with Samson, Ashwin said that there is a big difference between his and Samson's contracts—he is worth ₹9.5 crore in CSK, while Samson is worth ₹18 crore in RR. He said that if CSK wants to take Samson, then either the amount of ₹18 crore will have to be kept vacant or a direct trade with RR will have to be done. Trade is also possible through a cash deal. However, he clearly said that he has no inside information in this matter and the decisions are taken by the franchise owners. Will he remain in the team or not?
Ashwin said that only the RR owners or Samson can confirm whether the trade will happen or not. He also admitted that if the player does not want to stay in the team, he cannot be stopped. On his situation, he said, 'Last year I played only 9 matches, which was a first for me. I had asked for clarity about my role but have not received an answer yet.' He also added that if he is not in the CSK team next season, it could also be beneficial for the team.

R Ashwin breaks silence on IPL trade rumours, asks CSK for clarity

R Ashwin has broken his silence on the IPL trade rumours about him and revealed that he has asked Chennai Super Kings for clarity ahead of the 2026 season. Ashwin was bought by CSK for 9.75 crore rupees during the IPL 2025 mega auction as it was an emotional homecoming for the former India spinner. However, it was a season to forget for Ashwin as his performances didn't meet expectations. advertisementIn the nine matches that he played, the spinner picked up just seven wickets at an average of 40.43 and an economy rate of 9.13. Ashwin also scored just 33 runs during this time as it was the first time since his debut season that he played less than 12 matches during a season. Recently, a report stated that Ashwin had discussions with CSK about his future and may look for an exit. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the veteran spinner recalled how during his time with RR, he was informed by the franchise about their plans with him. "I played three years for RR," Ashwin said on his Youtube show. "After my 1st year, I got an email from the CEO saying this is your performance, this is our expectation and we're renewing your contract. It's one plus one plus one - the contract renewal. After every season, it's the responsibility of the franchise to communicate to the player if they're retaining or releasing him," said Ashwin. 'Don't know who is making rumours'Ashwin said that every player has the right to express their interest about being retained or not to franchises. The spinner said that his future isn't in his hands at the moment and said none of the rumours, including the one related to Sanju Samson, are coming from the player's side. "With regard to news about me or Sanju - obviously a player has the right to express interest [if he wishes to be retained or no]. Every player seeks clarity. As things stand, it's not in my hands. I've just asked for clarity. The situation we're in, all the news floating around, none of it is coming from the players. Even with Sanju's news, it's rumours or it's coming from the franchise's side. I don't know who is making this news," said Ashwin. The IPL trade window usually opens a month after the season ends and runs until a week before the next auction.- Ends

MS Dhoni's Rs 100 Crore Defamation Case: HC Orders Trial, Cricketer To Record Statement

Last Updated: MS Dhoni is reportedly available to provide evidence between October 20 and December 10 as per a petition. MS Dhoni is set to record his statement after Madras High Court ordered a trial in a Rs 100 crore defamation case filed by the former India captain against two prominent media channels and a journalist for dragging his name in the 2013 IPL betting scandal. Justice CV Karthikeyan has appointed an advocate commissioner who will record the evidence on behalf of Dhoni. The two-time world cup winning captain will not appear in person for the examination as his presence could lead to chaos on account of him being a celebrity. The case was filed by Dhoni back in 2014 seeking damages of Rs 100 crore from the defendants. The 44-year-old alleges that during a Television debate on the IPL betting scandal, defamatory remarks were made against him. As per a report in The Hindu, senior counsel PR Raman submitted an affidavit from Dhoni seeking the start of the trial which has now been pending for a decade now thanks to the involved parties seeking relief over the years. 'The above request is made with the intent to avoid any undue delay (in disposal of the suit pending in the High Court for over a decade) and to support the fair, just, and speedy adjudication of the suit. I state that I shall extend my full co-operation with the Advocate Commissioner and comply with all directions issued by this honourable court regarding the trial and the recording of evidence," the affidavit read. The IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal of 2013 is considered to be a major blot in the T20 league's history. As many as three cricketers were found guilty of having indulged in spot fixing while two franchises – Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals – were suspended for two years due to the betting activities of their top officials. Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020 but continues to represent CSK in IPL. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Did Team India Miss Virat Kohli In England Test Tour? Star Pacer Says: "Not Made Of..."

Despite the Test retirements of stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, an exuberant India side led by Shubman Gill snatched a 2-2 draw against England in the five-match Test series. Gill-led India won more sessions of play throughout the series as well. One of India's unsung heroes was pacer Akash Deep, who scalped 13 wickets in three matches, including 10 in one match as India won the second Test at Edgbaston. Now, Akash Deep has downplayed the absence of Kohli from the Test squad. When asked whether the Test team missed Kohli, Akash Deep chose to highlight the team atmosphere. "See, this is a team. I feel that one day I may not be there, but the team atmosphere will continue to be the same. The team is not made of one person, but by 11," Akash Deep said in an interview with Aaj Tak. Akash Deep's words follows in the mantra set by head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has long fought for the recognition of every single member of the side, and not just one or two stars. Akash Deep has also previously shared the dressing room with Kohli, with the star batter even gifting him one of his bats. Kohli announced his Test retirement during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, calling time on a career that saw him become India's most successful Test captain and amass 9,230 runs in 123 Tests. However, India have coped fairly well despite the losses of Kohli and Rohit from the Test setup. Gill led from the front, scoring 754 runs in five Tests - the second-highest run-tally by an Indian in one series in the history of Test cricket. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja also scored more than 500 runs in the series, while Rishabh Pant made 479, missing the final Test due to injury. Yashasvi Jaiswal made two centuries and Washington Sundar made one, making it a memorable series with the bat for the visitors. On the other hand, India's pace attack found its moment to shine despite the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Siraj finished as the top wicket-taker of the series with 23, while Akash Deep took 13 and Prasidh Krishna scalped 14.
