Motherwell boss explains leaving out transfer linked Miller

Askou had said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday that Miller would likely feature in Paisley after overcoming a minor injury, but the 18-year-old was again omitted from the matchday squad.
The manager explained: 'Yes, it was a final call with everything taken into consideration.
'It's not a secret that there are things going on in the background. We know he's been out for four weeks.
'How much risk are you willing to take on a player like him in that situation? The decision was that we kept him out of it.'
Asked after the match if there was any news on Miller's future, the Dane added: 'No, there's nothing I can tell. I've been busy with the game today so I haven't really heard any updates since early this morning.'
Motherwell lost defender Johnny Koutroumbis to injury late in the first half against St Mirren but Askou was hopeful it was not serious.
He added: 'We'll have to assess him tomorrow (Sunday). I hope it's not too bad. He was not on a stretcher. He was walking and seemed OK but we'll have to assess that when we get back.'

Meanwhile, St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson admitted he would like to add his attacking options before the end of the transfer window.
His team have yet to score in 180 minutes of Premiership action and lost forwards Toyosi Olusanya and James Scott in recent months.
Robinson said: 'I'd like to add something. If the right player comes up and gives us a bit more pace in the top areas then I'm sure the board will back us.
'We are facing huge competition in the league this year, people are spending millions and millions of pounds on players.
'We are (pursuing) free transfers. But if the right player becomes available on loan or a free transfer then I have no doubt the board will back us.'
Robinson has signed 10 players already this summer and warned it would take time for his new-look squad to properly gel.
He added: 'I've said it numerous times, this is the start of another process.
'We've brought boys in who aren't used to the intensity, don't understand quite yet the exact way we press, the exact way we play. And it only takes one or two moments or one or two people not to understand that for it to break down.
'We've got a conscientious group of boys who know they'll be better and want to be better and we'll be aiming to do that next week.'

Scottish teenager Lennon Miller seals sensational five-year deal with Udinese as he finally completes £4.75million switch from Motherwell

Lennon Miller has completed his stunning £4.75m move from Motherwell to Udinese. The deal to sign the Scotland international was confirmed by the Italian club after he passed a medical. And the Lanarkshire outfit's fee will smash the £2.75m they received from Celtic for David Turnbull five years ago. Udinese claimed they had secured 'one of the brightest young talents in European football' in Miller, while the 18-year-old said an emotional goodbye to Motherwell fans as news of his move came through. 'All I've ever known is Motherwell and for it all to change so quickly will be difficult, but I'm looking forward to it,' he said. 'Everbody has been great at the club. The manager, the fans and the players, I want to thank them.' Udinese posted on X: 'One of the brightest young talents in European football joins Udinese. A modern midfielder, capable of combining technique, vision and character, he arrives from Motherwell on a five-year contract.' The buzz around Miller has been incessant, including constant links with the Old Firm Despite long-standing speculation linking with him both sides of the Old Firm and some late interest from Ipswich, Miller always had his heart set on moving overseas. He joins the growing list of Scots plying their trade in Italy. This coming season, he'll come up against Napoli pair Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour - both title winners last year while the former was also nominated for the Ballon d'Or - as well as Torino's Che Adams and Sassuolo's Josh Doig. Liam Henderson has just joined Serie B outfit Sampdoria. Miller made 76 senior appearances for Motherwell and helped them finish eighth in the table last season after earning the captaincy. That led to him winning full international caps against Iceland and Liechtenstein at the end of the season. He didn't play at the start of this this season, with the club adamant he was carrying a minor knock. Udinese, who finished 12th in Italy last season, begin their season on Monday against Carrarese in the Coppa Italia. Miller might well be joined at the club by his fellow Scot, the Bristol City midfielder Ross McCrorie. Udinese announce the capture of Miller and describe him as 'one of the brightest young talents in European football' Firmly established in the side at Ashton Gate, the 27-year-old has interest from fellow Championship side Norwich City, but it's the Serie A outfit who are prepared to pay the £3.5m asking price. Along with Miller, Udinese have identified him as another key player in their plans of pushing for a European place this season. The former Rangers and Aberdeen player joined City in 2023 after three years at Aberdeen. He was part of Steve Clarke's Scotland squad at last year's European Championships.

'He ticks every box': Goodwin delighted to add Eskesen to Dundee United midfield

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin believes he has signed a midfielder who 'ticks all the boxes' after Julius Eskesen joined the club. The Dane has agreed a two-year deal, with the option for another year, after United signed him from FK Haugesund. Eskesen began his career with Odense Boldklub and was a Danish youth international, as well as picking up European experience, in his time at the club. He moved to Sonderjyske five years ago and had a successful spell there before moving to Haugesund in 2022. Goodwin says the 26-year-old is moving at the right age, and has a lot of qualities that should see him thrive at Tannadice, where he has been handed the number ten shirt. 'Julius is another carefully considered addition who aligns with our overarching recruitment strategy,' he said. 'We're targeting players with proven quality, extensive experience at a high level, and the desire to be part of a competitive and ambitious squad. Julius ticks every one of those boxes. 'He offers a rare blend of technical quality, tactical intelligence, and tenacity in the middle of the park — he doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game, which is essential in a league as physically demanding as the Scottish Premiership. 'Julius also gives me flexibility. He can play as a deeper-lying, combative midfielder or push forward and influence the game in the final third, whilst his set-piece delivery is second to none. 'We've made it clear we want to construct a squad not just for the short term, but for sustained success – Julius fits that model perfectly. He's still at a great age, he's hungry to improve, and he's chosen to come here because he believes in what we're building at Dundee United.'
