#SHOWBIZ: Indie rapper Zamaera to kick off debut Malaysian tour on May 9

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapper Zamaera is riding high after her SXSW debut in the US, and now she's set to make history with her first-ever national tour—an independent feat.
'The Epiphany Tour Malaysia 2025' kicks off this Friday (May 9), spanning seven locations across the country.
This tour marks a significant milestone, establishing Zamaera as Malaysia's first independent female rapper to headline a national tour.
The 29-year-old, hailing from Subang Jaya, has carved out a distinctive sound by fusing hip hop, trap, and electronic music.
Fresh from electrifying audiences at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, Zamaera is bringing that raw energy back home.
The tour will take her to Kedah, Penang, Perak, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, and culminate in Kuala Lumpur.
It promises to usher fans into a new era of Zamaera's artistry — bolder, freer, and more unfiltered than ever before.
"My travels in the United States ignited a fire within me," Zamaera said in a recent statement.
"I met artistes who reminded me why I started. Now, it's about bringing that energy back home.
"This tour is for Malaysia, first and always."
Zamaera explained the tour's title, revealing a sense of self-discovery.
"I realised that I had been preparing for this tour my whole life.
"Now, I'm finally in the driver's seat, steering my journey with intention and vision.
"I'm not waiting for opportunities to come to me; I'm creating them," she said.
The tour follows the release of her latest single, 'Jumper,' a track characterised by its fierce lyricism, genre-bending production, and a newfound creative clarity.
Zamaera is stepping boldly into her next chapter, showcasing a redefined sound that she describes as, "If hip hop, trap, and electronic music had a child, it'd be curious, wild-eyed, and ready to take the stage."
Zamaera will be performing alongside her longtime collaborator, producer-DJ I-SKY (founder of Asylum Studios and curator of the iconic Lepas Geram series).
The live show promises an immersive sonic journey, featuring unfiltered expression, powerful bars, and soulful melodies.
In each city, Zamaera will also showcase local guest artistes, emphasising her commitment to building the local music scene.
For example, in Kuching, she will be joined by Irfan Aniq, a rising rapper known for his single 'GAMETIME,' and DJ Keeyushee, a longtime creative force and co-founder of SFDP Kuching, a modern music collective and platform for emerging talent.
"I wouldn't be here without the people who gave me a shot early on. Now it's my turn to open doors," Zamaera said.
Supporting her journey across all seven cities, BYD Iroll EV joins the tour as the official transport, facilitating not just her movement but also the growth of local talent and culture along the way.
Adding another highlight to her "Epiphany" tour, Zamaera will make a special appearance at "Road To Fam" with 88rising x LEVI'S® on May 21 in Kuala Lumpur, at Over & Above.
Zamaera shared her excitement about this opportunity, calling it "just a little secret she's been keeping. It's something I dreamed about for years. Manifestation is real," she said of this significant moment in her journey.

#SHOWBIZ: Cancer-stricken Peter Pang still works to recoup medical expenses

HONG KONG: Despite being diagnosed with stage three rectal cancer in July 2023, Hong Kong singer-actor Peter Pang continues to work tirelessly to recoup the costs of his medical treatment. In a recent update on Xiaohongshu (Red Note), Pang, 54, revealed that he had secured a singing gig at a nightclub in mainland China. He also shared a video from the performance, showing fans enthusiastically singing along as he belted out the 1993 classic 'Sky' – originally sung by Cantopop group Beyond. "I'm grateful that I can still use this body to perform for everyone. I'll keep going," he captioned his post. According to Hong Kong's Headline Daily, Pang recently admitted to struggling financially. The publication reported that after being out of work for a year to focus on his treatment, Pang has exhausted the HK$500,000 (RM270,751) he borrowed to cover both medical and living expenses. With a wife and three children to support, the former TVB star is eager to return to work to begin repaying his debts. "No work means no income. My wife is working, but it's hard for her to shoulder everything alone. The money we borrowed is nearly gone. If this keeps up, we won't make it," he said. Still, the Sinister Beings (2021) actor remains hopeful.

'K-Pop Big 2 Super Concert' Featuring GOT7's BamBam & I-DLE Cancelled; Organiser Issues Statement

It's only the first week of June, and things are unfortunately not off to a good start. Back in April, it was announced that GOT7 member BamBam (뱀뱀) and members of I-DLE (아이들)(formerly (G)-IDLE) would be performing in Malaysia at a joint concert on 14th June. The idols were scheduled to take to the stage at the K-pop Big 2 Super Concert at Stadium Merdeka, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the event. Sadly, concert organiser Live Universe Ent announced yesterday (Monday, 2nd June) that the concert has been cancelled. Here's what happened: Live Universe Ent issued an official statement informing fans that the K-pop Big 2 Super Concert featuring BamBam and (G)I-DLE will no longer proceed, as the concert permit was not approved. The statement reads: 'Despite our best efforts and full compliance with all regulatory requirements, the concert permit application was unfortunately not approved, leading to the cancellation of the event. We sincerely apologise to all fans, artists, sponsors and partners for the disappointment, and thank you for your unwavering support.' The organiser also stated that all ticket holders will receive full refunds via Ticket2U, and details of the refund process will be sent by email. Shortly after the announcement was posted, fans were understandably upset by the news, with many beginning to speculate about the real reason behind the cancellation. Some questioned how the concert could have been announced and ticket sales launched in the first place if the organiser was still awaiting permit approval, describing the move as extremely risky. Others suspected that the event was cancelled due to poor ticket sales, as Stadium Merdeka was simply too large a venue for a two-act K-pop concert. Regardless of the reason, fans were looking forward to the show and had booked flights and accommodation, only for it to be cancelled. At the time of writing, neither BamBam, I-DLE, nor the agencies have commented on the cancellation. We hope that this doesn't affect future plans of performing in Malaysia, as we're not always considered during tour announcements.
