Deion Sanders Breaks Silence About Shedeur's NFL Draft Slide: 'Stop Lying'

Deion Sanders Breaks Silence About Shedeur's NFL Draft Slide: 'Stop Lying' originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel made headlines recently when he argued he belonged in the same all-time conversation as Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders. The bold claim sparked debate on social media, particularly when Samuel took aim at Sanders' well-known 'no T-step' philosophy, which is a footwork technique long associated with elite cornerback play.

The speculation around possible tension between the two prompted Sanders to appear on Samuel's podcast, 'Say What Needs to Be Said'. For the first quarter of the episode, the duo tackled their perceived beef.
Sanders recounted a moment on NFL Network when he referred to Samuel as 'the best off-corner in the league.' It was a comment Samuel viewed as dismissive. According to Sanders, that was the turning point in their relationship. However, there is no bad blood between the two.
The conversation shifted into a broader discussion about the state of the game, with Samuel expressing frustration that production is often overshadowed by media-driven hype.

The conversation eventually pivoted to a more personal topic with the NFL journeys of Sanders' sons, Shilo and Shedeur. This comes after the historic draft slide for Shedeur, who landed No. 144 in the fifth round to the Cleveland Browns. Coach Prime aired out his thoughts on the situation.
"You have no idea and stop lying. My kids are built for everything, Sanders said. 'We had two TV shows, so they've always been in front of the camera. So, I know they know how to handle themselves. And you're not going to catch them in no foolery or no mess. So, when you sit up there and say something like he went in a meeting unprepared?
"Dude? Like who? Shedeur Sanders? Who had six different coordinators. Who has still functioned and leveled up every time we brought someone new in and you're gonna tell me he was unprepared? You're gonna tell me he had on headphones? Anyone who knows my son understands he's a professional. He's gonna go to a meeting with headphones on? Y'all, come on man.'
Even as Samuel tried to shift the conversation, Sanders dug deeper, revealing how the draft process affected his sons emotionally. He also believes there was an effort by NFL decision makers to block Shedeur during the draft.
'It's hurts man," Sanders added. "There was some foolishness up top, but it gave them something they needed. Like that edge that Tom (Brady) had? It gave them that edge they needed like we had. Folks that said we ain't gonna be nothing. We had to prove that. It gave them that edge they needed. Both of them.'
Shilo, who's now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is already turning heads in offseason workouts. The undrafted rookie is earning praise for his intensity and leadership. The same traits he's carrying with him from Colorado.

With both brothers chasing NFL dreams, the Sanders legacy is still very much alive from Tampa to Cleveland. As for Coach Prime's role at Colorado, signed a five-year, $54 million extension in March, becoming the highest-paid coach in the Big 12. It's bittersweet because it will be the first time without coaching his sons.
Sanders and the Buffs open the 2025 season on August 29th against Georgia Tech (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
