Uttarakhand Police hosts historic open house session with women officers
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], May 21 (ANI): In a landmark initiative, the Uttarakhand Police organised an open house session with women officers under the chairmanship of Director General Deepam Seth, marking a significant step towards promoting gender inclusivity and empowerment within the force.
The session, held under the chairmanship of Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar, saw enthusiastic participation from women officers ranging from Sub-Inspectors to Inspector Generals of Police.
A six-member women's team from the Uttarakhand Police recently participated in the 11th National Women Police Conference (NCWP) at Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Chennai. They shared their experiences on topics like work-life balance, mental health, and career development. Their insights contributed to the discussion on creating a supportive and inclusive work environment.
'Efforts have been made to extend the benefits of various public welfare schemes like Smart City Mission, PM Swanidhi Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna and Amrit Mission to every citizen of Uttarakhand. Along with this, with the basic mantra of development and heritage, our rich cultural heritage,' said DGP Ashok Kumar (ANI).
The DGP emphasised the importance of providing women officers with career growth and development opportunities, including special training and postings in key units like Cyber Cell and STF.
'Women personnel will play a greater role in Cyber Cell, STF, SOG, Narcotics Cell, and other vital units', said the DGP. Women officers shared their experiences on balancing work and personal life, highlighting the need for flexible work policies and supportive environments.
Flexible work policies were emphasised to enable women officers to manage their work and family responsibilities effectively. Regular health check-ups, fitness programs, yoga, meditation, and sports were recommended to promote physical and mental well-being among women personnel.
Meanwhile on May 20, the Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami also announced plans to digitise the offices of municipal bodies, enhancing transparency and efficiency. Silver Jubilee Parks will be constructed to provide recreational spaces for citizens.
A training program will be conducted for local women and men to set up hi-tech hair salons and parlours. The targets are 10 hi-tech salons in each municipal corporation, five hi-tech salons in each municipality, and three hi-tech salons in each Nagar Panchayat. (ANI)

Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother Govind on Wednesday apologised to Raja Raghuvanshi's family and said that he has 'broken all ties' with his sister Sonam. Earlier today, police disclosed that Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime conspirator in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, had insisted on proceeding with the killing despite others withdrawing their support. This determination reportedly played a crucial role in the tragic event. Authorities have since arrested Sonam's alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, along with three contract killers—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—in connection with the case. Sonam herself was taken into custody in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and is currently held at Shillong Sadar Police Station in Meghalaya. Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother Govind visited his sister's in-law's household on Wednesday. At the residence Govind and Raja Raghuvanshi's brother Vipin held a joint press conference. There Govind said, 'According to the evidence found so far, I am 100% sure that she has committed this murder. All the accused in this case are related to Raj Kushwaha. I apologise to Raja's family.' Govind also informed that their family had broken ties with murder accused Sonam Raghuvanshi. 'I don't have an idea if she (Sonam) has confessed to the crime, but I am saying that she has done it. I am with Raja... I will boycott Sonam.' Govind said. "Our parents have also accepted it. They were not aware of the details earlier today. I was in flight. Not only my family but the entire society will boycott her (Sonam). I have apologised to the (Raja's) family. I will always stand with them." he added. Earlier on June 6, Govind had sought a CBI probe into the missing Indore couple's case, and asked Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma to treat it as a case of abduction, and not look for her dead body. Vipin Raghuvanshi, brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, revealed that Govind, Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother, had been in contact with him. He explained that Govind had informed him of his intention to visit his house to make a confession. Govind wanted to admit that his sister had committed a grave mistake and expressed that she deserved the death penalty for her actions. Raj Singh Kushwaha's mother has vehemently claimed that her son is being 'trapped' in the murder case and insisted that he 'could never do something like this.' The 21-year-old, who is alleged to be Sonam Raghuvanshi's boyfriend, was arrested by police for his purported involvement in conspiring to kill Raja Raghuvanshi in May. 'My son is not like that; he can never do something like this. He is very young and used to taking care of his three sisters after his father passed away. He started working at Govind's (brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi) office. My husband passed away in 2020. After that, Raj has taken care of our family,' Kushwaha's mother was quoted as saying by ANI. According to the Meghalaya Police, Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam (25) was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to murder him with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha (20). The duo had hired three killers to execute the plan. Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and his wife Sonam got married here on May 11. They went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23. Raghuvanshi's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district on June 2. Sonam and her aides were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh recently for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raghuvanshi.

Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi NEW DELHI: The family of Raja Raghuvanshi on Wednesday apologised to the Meghalaya government as the Indore-based businessman's murder, allegedly by his own wife, had "tarnished" the image of the northeastern state. Raja's brother Sachin Raghuvanshi also thanked the Meghalaya government for supporting their family. "I want to apologise to the Meghalaya government that because of one Sonam Raghuvanshi, the state's image has been tarnished. Their police solved this case in 17 days. I want to thank the Meghalaya government for standing with us. They care for tourists," the brother told news agency ANI. Meanwhile, Raja's father Ashok Raghuvanshi demanded that the family of Sonam, the deceased's wife, also apologise to the Meghalaya Police. "They should apologise for insulting the Meghalaya Police. I have faith in the Meghalaya Police. They have done a very good job. I also apologise for the insult they suffered. Meghalaya Police found my son, although he was dead. A complete inquiry should be done and the culprits must be hanged," the father said. Meghalaya honeymoon murder case: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) will reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra with Sonam Raghuvanshi and the four other accused, who were brought to Shillong after being arrested on charges of killing Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi. The SIT around midnight on Wednesday brought Sonam Raghuvanshi to Shillong. The four others were also brought to the city in the day and are set to be produced to a local post. The five have been accused of conspiring and murdering Raja Raghuvanshi, when he and Sonam were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya. 'The SIT that brought Sonam arrived here shortly before midnight. She was taken to a hospital here around 2 am to ascertain whether she was pregnant or not. She had undergone three tests. Sonam will be produced before a court here,' a senior police official was quoted as saying by ANI. East Khasi Hills district SP Vivek Syiem said that the test results were found to be negative. 'The four other accused persons- Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kuli - have also been brought here on transit remand on Wednesday,' he said. Syiem also revealed that the SIT will push for 'police custody of all the arrested persons, and will reconstruct the crime scene in Sohra'. Meanwhile, accused Raj Singh Kushwaha's mother alleged that his son was being 'trapped' in the case and he could 'never do something like this'. The 21-year-old, allegedly Sonam's 'boyfriend' was arrested by police for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raja Raghuvanshi in May. The SIT of Meghalaya Police have already been granted a seven-day transit custody for the four men, while for Sonam they have been granted a three-day transit remand. Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi were on their honeymoon when the couple went missing. They were last seen on May 23. His body was found in a gorge in Sohara on June 2, while Sonam remained missing. Police, who codenamed the case as 'Operation Honeymoon', eventually arrested all the accused in the case and have collected evidences against them.
