The dawn of a new MLB season has spawned a myriad of new collectible merchandise, from baseball cards to jerseys. But right now, caps are stealing all the headlines. New Era rolled out their new "Overlap" hats for the 2025 season earlier this week. However, the hats haven't exactly been received well.
At first glance, these hats may not seem too bad. However, upon closer inspection, you might start to notice some unfortunate, questionable patterns. An even closer inspection would reveal that some of the new words created by these overlapped logos are rather NSFW. Particularly the Texas Rangers' hat. In fact, the slip-up was so bad that the hat actually needed to be pulled from stores.

Why did the Rangers' hat need to be pulled?
The overlap between the Rangers' primary logo, the word "Texas" spelled out with a minor curve, and the secondary logo, just the letter 'T', created a pretty inappropriate word.
While our Spanish-speaking readers already know what this says, our non-Spanish speakers may be scratching their heads. Well, one quick trip to Google and you'll realize that the word written on the hat above is Spanish for slang for breasts.
This is a major slip-up for a company that has made similar mistakes in the past.
Less than a year ago, New Era released the hat above, offering a similarly vulgar word in plain English. How is it possible that a company makes such a mistake once, and less than a calendar year later, they make practically the same mistake?
This time is arguably worse, though. Not only is the Rangers' hat laughably bad, but other hats suffered similar fates, although not as vulgar.
Angels hat
While not overtly vulgar, given that it's spelled wrong, it doesn't take a massive leap of the imagination with the visible spelling.
Astros hat
Similarly, who saw the design of this Astros' hat and thought "That totally doesn't make me think of anything else. That could only ever be looked at as a baseball logo"?

The biggest question many are asking is, "Who approved these?" How could these get past their checks after the A's incident mentioned earlier.
That said, with how bad and vulgar some of these hats are, it wouldn't be shocking to see decent sales. These could very well be collector's items like misprinted money or trading cards. Only time will tell.

Guardians' Austin Hedges activated from 7-day injured list
SEATTLE (AP) — The Cleveland Guardians activated catcher Austin Hedges from the 7-day injured list prior to Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners. Hedges, 32, was placed on the list retroactive to last Thursday after he was struck on the helmet on a backswing by the New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. during a game on Wednesday. It marked the fifth time Hedges — who is hitting .113 with three home runs and three RBIs this year— has been placed on the injured list because of a concussion across 11 MLB seasons. 'They're all very similar, at least my version of them,' Hedges said. 'Apparently there's a handful of different types of brain injuries, and mine have been pretty consistent just at least with the symptoms. So, it was nothing new for me. Luckily this one wasn't very bad and didn't take that long to get over it.' Hedges said his symptoms started to clear up roughly three days removed from the incident. He visited a specialist in Pittsburgh prior to joining the Guardians in Seattle, one which he had worked with during his first stint in Cleveland from 2020 to 2022. Hedges said he was appreciative of the Guardians not rushing him back to play too quickly. 'We have such an amazing staff, and they're always looking out for all of us,' Hedges said. Max Scherzer makes first rehab start, pushing close to Blue Jays return
It was a big evening at Buffalo's Sahlen Field — friendship bracelet night, post-game fireworks and a Buffalo Bill defensive back throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. But the real draw was the 40-year-old starting pitcher on the mound. Making his first rehab start with the Buffalo Bisons, Max Scherzer threw 56 pitches for the Toronto Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate. The veteran righty hadn't pitched in a formal contest since a three-inning Blue Jays debut on March 29. A thumb injury and back tightness have kept Scherzer from contributing to Toronto's strong start to 2025, instead relegated to cortisone shots and bullpen sessions. After two months away, Friday's rehab outing pushed Scherzer close to his Blue Jays return — and Toronto's rotation needs him. Advertisement The Jays had a simple checklist for Scherzer's first outing: Throw 60 to 65 pitches, flash solid fastball velocity and rebound well the next day. We'll see how the righty feels moving forward, but he mostly ticked the first two boxes. Scherzer ended his outing at 56 pitches, striking out four batters with no walks. His final two fastballs dipped below 90 miles per hour, but the righty averaged 91.9 mph on his primary pitch, just below his 2024 season average. 'I couldn't care less about his line score,' manager John Schneider said. The 50-pitch mark has been a big obstacle for Scherzer this year, as that's when the soreness in his right thumb flares up. After multiple shots in various joints and over two months away from games, the righty pushed past that barrier in Friday's fifth inning. He'll have to prove he can consistently surpass the barrier — and mitigate soreness between starts — before rejoining Toronto's rotation. 'Getting through that point and then seeing how he feels tomorrow,' Schneider said. 'I know he's talked about that 50 pitch mark quite a bit.' There was a slim chance Scherzer makes an immediate jump back to the big leagues, Schneider said before the veteran's rehab start. More likely, Scherzer will need at least one more outing in Triple A. He's expected to join the Blue Jays in Philadelphia, throw a bullpen session and likely return to the Bisons for another rehab outing. The Jays have used five different starters to cover Scherzer's spot in the rotation this year. With strong performances from Eric Lauer (2.37 ERA) and Paxton Schultz (3.06 ERA), Toronto has managed through the absence, but regular bullpen days and the struggles of fourth starter Bowden Francis have put pressure on the rest of Toronto's staff. A healthy Scherzer can relieve that pressure, eliminating the all-reliever games or pushing Francis into a new role to re-find his 2024 form. Advertisement Once one of the most reliable pitchers in baseball, making starts has been an issue for Scherzer the last few years. He's made just 37 total appearances since 2023 Opening Day, but has still been effective when he throws, owning a 3.84 ERA in that stretch. The well-located pitches and strikeout stuff flashed in Scherzer's Buffalo start, but that wasn't the main concern. It matters most how he, and his thumb, feel tomorrow. Toronto has managed through 69 games with just three stable starters, but it's not sustainable. Lauer, Schultz, Easton Lucas and José Ureña have all taken turns filling in the gap, but it was Scherzer who the Blue Jays paid $15.5 million to be that fourth guy. With Friday's start in Buffalo, the role may be filled soon.

A scene of chaos erupted after a car barreled into a crowd of people outside a LaLiga match at Espanyol's RCDE Stadium before Thursday's showdown between Barcelona and Espanyol.
