These New Era baseball caps yanked from shelf now selling on eBay because they are risqué

Some of the hats in the just-launched lineup of New Era Major League Baseball caps have accidentally become collector's items – because they can be read as being naughty. The motif for the new caps overlays the team name with the team logo or sigil – think "A's" for the Oakland Athletics over the word "Athletics" or a large "Y" over the middle of the word "Yankees" for the New York Yankees. Unfortunately, the combination yielded some awkward patterns that could be taken in a vulgar way. The Texas Rangers cap, with a big "T" over the word "Texas," could be read as "Tetas," the Spanish word for breasts – and the cap was pulled from stores, the Dallas Morning News reported on Monday. Now two other hats have also been yanked, reports Nexstar Media Group: that of the Houston Astros, because the big "H" eclipsed the "T" in the team name, resulting in the word "Ashos," and the Anaheim Angels, with a large "A" resulting in "Anaels." Those hats are no longer for sale in the online Fanatics store, where you can find, for instance, the Arizona Diamondbacks cap, which appears to spell "Ariana," and the Boston Red Sox hat, which appears to spell "Bobon." "This year's New Era 'Overlap' hats are going viral for creating some of the funniest, stupidest, most-amazing hats we've ever seen," noted the SB Nation site. This hat collection for Major League baseball this year is certainly interesting... — Just Baseball (@JustBB_Media) March 10, 2025 Some of these, let's call them retracted collectibles, apparently were sold to buyers before they were yanked off the shelves and, of course, they are up for sale on eBay. A few of the Rangers caps had already sold for hundreds of dollars and there's still some online for $750 or for $800. A pair of Houston hats have sold for $500 each and there's at least two available priced at $311 and $500 or best offer. Also on eBay you'll find an Angels hat posted for about $500. This blunder comes a year after another flub from New Era last year with an Oakland A's cap that superimposed the A's logo over another A's logo in the background to create what appeared to be a word for your rear end. New Era MLB crossover hats mocked online as Texas Rangers caps pulled

New Era MLB crossover hats mocked online as Texas Rangers caps pulled Show Caption Hide Caption With the Dodgers favored to repeat, is the MLB becoming too top-heavy? Bob Nightengale and Gabe Lacques discuss whether or not the MLB is lacking parity and could be facing a potential problem in the future. Sports Seriously The dawn of a new MLB season has spawned a myriad of new collectible merchandise, from baseball cards to jerseys. But right now, caps are stealing all the headlines. New Era rolled out their new "Overlap" hats for the 2025 season earlier this week. However, the hats haven't exactly been received well. At first glance, these hats may not seem too bad. However, upon closer inspection, you might start to notice some unfortunate, questionable patterns. An even closer inspection would reveal that some of the new words created by these overlapped logos are rather NSFW. Particularly the Texas Rangers' hat. In fact, the slip-up was so bad that the hat actually needed to be pulled from stores. New Era: The 10 funniest New Era MLB Overlap hats, from 'Bobon' to 'Ashos' Why did the Rangers' hat need to be pulled? The overlap between the Rangers' primary logo, the word "Texas" spelled out with a minor curve, and the secondary logo, just the letter 'T', created a pretty inappropriate word. While our Spanish-speaking readers already know what this says, our non-Spanish speakers may be scratching their heads. Well, one quick trip to Google and you'll realize that the word written on the hat above is Spanish for slang for breasts. This is a major slip-up for a company that has made similar mistakes in the past. Less than a year ago, New Era released the hat above, offering a similarly vulgar word in plain English. How is it possible that a company makes such a mistake once, and less than a calendar year later, they make practically the same mistake? This time is arguably worse, though. Not only is the Rangers' hat laughably bad, but other hats suffered similar fates, although not as vulgar. Angels hat While not overtly vulgar, given that it's spelled wrong, it doesn't take a massive leap of the imagination with the visible spelling. Astros hat Similarly, who saw the design of this Astros' hat and thought "That totally doesn't make me think of anything else. That could only ever be looked at as a baseball logo"? Other designs that have been mocked Even the designs that aren't vulgar have been catching flack. The Bobon Red Sox: The Philadelphia Phipies: The Mmmi Marlins: The Seattle Masers: The biggest question many are asking is, "Who approved these?" How could these get past their checks after the A's incident mentioned earlier. That said, with how bad and vulgar some of these hats are, it wouldn't be shocking to see decent sales. These could very well be collector's items like misprinted money or trading cards. Only time will tell. MLB News: Are Yankees doomed after Gerrit Cole injury? New Texas Rangers Hats Pulled for Vulgarity While Entire Line Goes Viral for Questionable Designs

A new collection of Major League Baseball hats are under review after the version for the Texas Rangers unintentionally evoked a Spanish vulgarity. In New Era's Overlap 5950 collection, sold by Fanatics — in which a team's cap logo is superimposed over its jersey logo — the Rangers hat featured its signature block 'T' over the 'x' in the word 'Texas.' The unintentional result showed a Spanish slang word for breasts. The hat has since been removed from the website that sells the MLB licensed apparel, according to The Dallas Morning News. A representative for MLB did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment. The Arizona Diamondbacks iteration, which shows an 'A' over the word 'Arizona' effectively reads 'Ariana,' while the Houston team's new hat sports the word 'Ashos.' Apparently, it's not the first time that New Era has unveiled a bad hat. Last year, the Oakland Athletics version transferred the team's 'A's' into 'Ass.' The new hats provoked plenty of jokes on social media. In response to the new Boston Red Sox version, which reads 'Bobon,' one commenter on X posted a picture of beloved former NBA journeyman Boban Marjanović. Another commenter had a field day with the collection, writing: 'Came for 'Anaels' and 'Tetas.' Stayed for 'Dedoit.'' 'I know everyone hates them,' Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner said at the time, according to the Associated Press. 'We all liked what we had. We understand business, but I think everyone wanted to keep it the same way, for the most part, with some tweaks here or there.' Read the original article on People
