Man arrested after disturbance on Glasgow flight, UK police launch terror probe
'We received a report of a man causing a disturbance on a flight arriving in Glasgow around 8.20am on Sunday, 27 July, 2025,' Police Scotland said in a statement.
'Officers boarded the plane on its arrival and a 41-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody. Enquiries are continuing.'
Unverified videos spreading online appeared to show a man standing up at the back of the plane shouting 'Allahu akbar (God is Greatest)' before being tackled to the ground by a passenger.
Police said they were 'aware of videos circulating online and these are being assessed by counter terrorism officers'.
EasyJet confirmed in a statement sent to AFP that a passenger had been removed on Sunday from flight EZY609 from Luton to Glasgow 'due to their behaviour onboard'.
'EasyJet's crew are trained to assess all situations and act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other customers is not compromised at any time,' it added. — AFP

Kick it out: Transphobia, sexism rise in UK football; fans demand red card for hate
LONDON, Aug 7 — The 2024-25 UK soccer season saw a rise in reports of sexism, transphobia and faith-based abuse, said the UK-based anti-discrimination and inclusion charity Kick It Out. A Kick It Out statement said the charity received 1,398 reports of abuse, up from 1,332 last season. It said the reports came from people who said they had experienced or witnessed discrimination online or at a grassroots, non-league or professional game. The charity did not identify the abusers. Sexism and misogyny increased by 67 per cent, while faith-based abuse also saw a sharp rise. Reports of homophobic abuse fell slightly but transphobic abuse doubled last season, said Kick It Out, who incorporate incidents from across professional soccer, grassroots and social media. Reports of racist incidents in professional soccer rose from 223 to 245, despite a drop in overall reports of racism across all levels of the game. 'These figures show that discrimination remains deeply embedded across the game, but the rise in abuse in youth football should be a wake-up call,' Kick It Out CEO Samuel Okafor in a statement on Tuesday. 'What we're seeing now is that fans aren't just reporting abuse, they're demanding action. There's been a clear shift this season in how people are calling out sexist behaviour, both online and in stadiums, and asking football to treat it as seriously as any other form of hate. Man arrested for attempting shortcut across LRT tracks at Masjid Jamek station
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — A man, believed to be a foreigner, was arrested for trespassing onto the Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks at Masjid Jamek station along the Ampang line here yesterday. Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said the man, in his 20s, was detained after being spotted by the Integrated Control Centre crossing from Platform 2 to Platform 1 via the tracks at 10.11am. 'The complainant, a Prasarana auxiliary police officer, received information from the control centre and immediately went to the location before apprehending the suspect. He was then brought to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for further action,' he said in a statement today. Sulizmie said the man failed to produce any valid identification documents when requested by police and had trespassed onto the tracks in an attempt to take a shortcut to his workplace. 'A police investigation paper has been opened under Section 447 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. A remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made today to facilitate investigations,' he said. He also advised the public not to trespass into restricted areas, which could endanger both themselves and others.
