Bad news for Team India in middle of Oval Test, star player has been released from squad by BCCI
Team India are on the backfoot in the fifth and final Test against England at the Oval in London. Shubman Gill's side are already trailing 1-2 in the series and have been bowled out for just 224 after being sent into bat by stand-in England skipper Ollie Pope.
Now, there was some more bad news for the team as the BCCI announced that Jasprit Bumrah is being released from the squad. India's most experienced bowler Bumrah was not selected for the must-win match at the Oval due to his 'workload management' even with a helpful, green track on offer.
Bumrah will probably now leave the squad in the middle of the Test match after BCCI's announcement. 'Jasprit Bumrah has been released from India's squad for the fifth Test of the series against England,' BCCI announced in a release on Friday.

— BCCI (@BCCI) August 1, 2025 Jasprit Bumrah had role to play as a mentor
Team India would have liked Jasprit Bumrah to at least play the role of a mentor to the other bowlers. In Bumrah's absence, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have pulverized the other fast bowlers – racing to 109 for 1 in 16 overs at lunch on Day 2.
All Indian fast bowlers – Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna – leaked boundaries and failed to keep the England batters in check.
The 31-year-old Bumrah had bowled 119.4 overs across three games and took 14 wickets. Bumrah claimed two five-wicket hauls – at the Headingley in the first Test and at the Lord's in the third game. However at Manchester, Bumrah conceded more than 100 runs in a single innings for the first time in his career. Bumrah now has 219 wickets in 48 Tests. When will Jasprit Bumrah be in action again?
Team India's next big international assignment is going to be the Asia Cup 2025 tournament in the UAE next month. It will be interesting to see if the BCCI and the selectors decide to risk playing Bumrah in the Asia Cup after such a long England tour.
Bumrah last played T20 cricket for India back in the T20 World Cup 2024 which India won last year. The Asia Cup will conclude on September 29 and the first Test against the West Indies will start in Ahmedabad on October 2 followed by the second match in New Delhi from October 10-14 . Then in November there are two Tests against South Africa.
'It will be a tricky call but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup,' a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.
'If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against West Indies at Ahmedabad. Obviously the question arises, do you need Bumrah against West Indies or he plays Asia Cup after a month's break and plays the two Tests against South Africa. That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take,' the source added.

PKL 2025: Bengaluru Bulls full squad, schedule and live streaming details
Bengaluru Bulls will play a total of 18 matches in their PKL 2025 campaign during the league stages Aditya Kaushik New Delhi For Bengaluru Bulls, PKL 2025 represents a fresh start after finishing at the bottom of the table last season—a first for this storied franchise. They've parted ways with long-time coach Randhir Singh Sehrawat and welcomed two-time champion head coach BC Ramesh, who has a proven title-winning record with both the Bulls (Season 6) and Bengal Warriors (Season 7). The Bulls have overhauled their squad, spending nearly INR 5 crore at the 2025 auction to build a formidable defensive ensemble. The headline signing is Yogesh Dahiya, the most expensive Indian defender in PKL history at INR 1.125 crore, supported by Ankush Rathee, Season 9's Best Defender, and proven stoppers like Sanjay Dhull and Dheeraj. However, attack remains a concern. With the departure of some big names, the Bulls have pinned their hopes on young talents. Last season's retained raiders Pankaj and Manjeet, new addition Aashish Malik, and auction pick Akash Shinde—who has nearly 300 PKL raid points—will shoulder the offensive duties. The attacking unit lacks star power, so expect the team to rely on up-and-coming raiders and look for a breakout performer to emerge this season. ENG vs IND 5th Test: How to watch live streaming of Day 3 action for free?
As Day 3 of the fifth and final Test of the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy gets underway today at The Oval, London, between India and England, both teams will be ready to put everything on the line to deny the opposition an obvious advantage in the match. Both England and India performed equally well, bundling each other out for 224 and 247 respectively. However, India have made a strong comeback with the bat in the second innings, already securing a 52-run lead with 8 wickets in hand and three days of play still remaining. India's second-innings progress with the bat can somewhat be credited to English fielders, who had an awful day on Day 2, dropping catches and missing chances in bunches. The visitors just need to hold tight and bat for three more sessions if they wish to bat the hosts out of the game before the final innings begins. But how can you watch all the action of Day 3 of the fifth Test live from anywhere around the globe? Take a look. England vs India LIVE SCORE UPDATES 5th Test Day 3: All eyes on Jaiswal; play resumes at 3:30 PM IST
5th Test | ENG vs IND LIVE UPDATES: With sunny weather reported for the Oval on Saturday, India will try to maximise their batting efforts and take a huge second-innings lead with hopes of winning As the sun rises over the Oval, London, the 5th Test between India and England heads into an intense Day 3 with a chance to take control of the match on the line. India, despite trailing in the first four sessions of the match, came back with a fight to take the upper hand with a 52-run second-innings lead to end the second day's play. India still have 8 wickets in hand and will try to extend their lead past 250 to put the hosts under pressure before the final innings. Moreover, the first two days of the Test were heavily impacted by rain, but the weather report for Saturday is clear and sunny, which means batting conditions will be slightly better and the visitors will try to take full advantage of it. JaisBall on display In reply to England's fiery start in their own Bazball style, India presented their own JaisBall at the Oval. Yashasvi Jaiswal took the English bowlers to the cleaners in the final session of Day 2 to complete yet another Test fifty against the English team. The visitors still have Gill, Nair, Jadeja, and Sundar to come out to bat, which means the stage is set for them to end the series in a 2-2 draw—if they do not face yet another batting collapse. How can England make a comeback? England had the chance to put India under pressure early in the second innings, but their sloppy fielding and unpredictable bowling helped India establish control in the game. England dropped two catches of Jaiswal, who went on to score a half-century. Moreover, losing their strike bowler Chris Woakes due to injury did not help the cause. They need to bowl strict lines and take their catches if they wish to keep the match alive for themselves. What is the situation of the match ahead of Day 3? India, after being bundled out for 224 in the first innings, cleaned up England for 247 despite a 92-run opening stand between Duckett and Crawley. In their second innings, India lost two big wickets in the form of KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan, but Yashasvi Jaiswal (51 not out), along with Akash Deep (4 not out), finished the day with the scoreboard reading India 75 for 2, leading the second innings by 52 runs.
