Want relaxed air travel? Pet a puppy at Hyderabad Airport
Hyderabad, Jul 31 (PTI) The next time when you walk into Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGAI) here, don't be surprised if you're greeted by a friendly puppy or even get a chance to pet one.
The GMR Group, which manages the airport, has introduced a 'Therapy Dog Program" aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.
The initiative offers calming and joyful interactions, with the belief that the presence of dogs–Toy Poodles in this case– can ease travel-related anxiety, uplift moods, and create a more welcoming and peaceful airport environment, according to RGIA sources.
Currently, the program which features four well-trained Toy Poodles and accompanied by professional handlers, is in its early stages, and future expansion may be considered based on passenger feedback and operational feasibility, they said.
'The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Passengers have appreciated the calming presence of the dogs. The initiative has been well-received as a thoughtful and comforting addition to the airport experience," sources told PTI.
While the dogs are certified therapy animals and trained for calm behavior, they are always under the supervision of professional handlers. These handlers are equipped to manage any unexpected behavior and ensure the safety and comfort of both the dogs and passengers, they further said.
A passenger who did not want to be identified said, 'I was so happy to see them." 'It already feels like I'm beginning to heal. A truly wonderful initiative. Please keep up the amazing work. And a special thanks to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for helping fund and facilitate this incredible effort." Having a pet dog brings so much joy and the initiative was a thoughtful and heartwarming one which deserves true appreciation, the passenger added.
Importantly, the dogs are only allowed to interact with passengers who willingly approach them, minimizing stress triggers.
They are stationed at key touch points in both domestic and international departure areas from Friday to Monday, (1500 hours-1900 hours) for approximately four hours.
The city airport witnessed a passenger traffic of 29.5 million during the last financial year. PTI GDK SA

A boon for frequent highway and expressway commuters in India, the annual pass ensures unlimited access to national highways, expressways, and state expressways without the need for any additional recharges throughout the year. The annual pass is also accompanied by a distance-based pricing model for those who do not travel long distances regularly. Under this framework, users can opt to pay ₹50 for every 100 kilometers, replacing the current variable toll rates and ensure flexibility and affordability during their occasional travel. Steps to purchase FASTag annual pass before August 15 Follow these steps to purchase your FASTag annual pass before the August 15 deadline. 1. Access the official platform: Download the Rajmarg Yatra application from Google Play Store or App Store or log in to the official NHAI/MoRTH portal using your registered mobile number or directly enter your vehicle's registration number and FASTag ID if not logged in.. These platforms will provide secure access to FASTag services. 2. Verify eligibility: The app or portal would run backend checks to determine whether the FASTag is active, appropriately attached, and linked to the correct vehicle registration. It also conducts a thorough check to ensure that the registered FASTag is not blacklisted. 3. Make payment: After the backend checks are completed, users would be provided with multiple FASTag recharge plans, from which they have to choose the annual pass option of ₹3,000. Users would be then redirected to payment options like UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking from which they can opt for one according to their convenience. FASTag wallet balance cannot be used for paying the annual pass fee. 4. Linking of annual pass: Once the payment is successfully completed, the Annual Pass would be linked to the existing FASTag account and vehicle registration. 5. SMS confirmation: Users will finally be receiving a confirmation on SMS, that will notify them regarding their FASTag activation on August 15. Things to keep in mind regarding new FASTag annual pass: 1. According to Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), the annual pass is applicable only for private non-commercial Car/Jeep/Van and that its use in any commercial vehicle will result in immediate deactivation without a notice. 2. The annual pass is valid at all national highways and national expressways. At fee plazas on expressways, state highways etc, that is managed by state governments or local bodies, the FASTag will operate as a regular FASTag, and applicable user fee charges may apply. 3. IHMCL also says that the annual pass cannot be issued on FASTags registered only with a chassis number. The Vehicle Registration Number must be updated to activate the annual pass. 4. Users must note that the annual pass is not mandatory, and that they can choose to continue operating their FASTag in the regular manner, i.e. in regular transactions as per applicable user fee rates at fee plazas. 5. IHMCL denies the payment of ₹3,000 for the annual pass through the FASTag wallet balance. Users must pay the annual pass fee only through the payment options available in the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI/MoRTH portal. The existing wallet balance can be used for State Highway tolls, parking, etc.

When will India, China resume direct flights? IndiGo CEO says ‘when both countries...'
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Wednesday stated that the airline is ready to resume direct flights between India and China. This comes a day after PTI reported that the two countries are in an advanced stage of talks to restart direct air connectivity soon. Elbers noted that IndiGo operated daily flights on India-China routes before the COVID-19 pandemic. "The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow," he said in a statement on Wednesday. Elbers also said that guided by its entrepreneurial spirit, the airline remains committed to identifying and pursuing commercially viable opportunities. IndiGo was operating daily flights from Delhi to Chengdu till February 6, 2020, and from Kolkata to Guangzhou till February 1, 2020. "IndiGo operated daily flights between India and China prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow," IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers told NDTV Profit in an emailed statement. Air India also had flights from Delhi to Shanghai, and those were also suspended in early 2020. On January 27 this year, India and China in principle agreed to resume direct air services between the two countries as part of certain people-centric steps to "stabilise and rebuild" the bilateral ties. Diplomatic and economic ties between India and China deteriorated following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 between their armed forces. Relations remained tense for nearly four years, until October 2024, when both countries reached an agreement on patrolling protocols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). India and China had initially agreed in January to resume direct flights. However, the plan stalled after relations cooled again amid India's limited conflict with Pakistan. The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow. Rare Purple ‘King Crab' Spotted In Thailand's World Heritage Forest
The sighting of an exclusive purple crab species in a viral post puzzled the internet after it was found at Thailand's Kaeng Krachan National Park. Thailand's Kaeng Krachan National Park has emerged as host to an exclusive crab species, sporting a vibrant purple colour, unlike any other crab in the world. A viral post left internet users stunned, containing images of the purple crab. According to a translation of the post on Facebook, the crabs were spotted by the park rangers, who also captured them in a series of eye-catching images. The park officials called it 'precious gift from nature", while also highlighting how rare the species is. 'Officials captured the last glimpse of a 'King Crab,' also known as the 'Sirindhorn Crab' a rare waterfall crab species. This crab, displaying its stunning white and purple colours, was a precious gift from nature," read the shared post. With the post, Kaeng Krachan National Park highlighted what the sighting of an exclusive purple crab may mean to the ecosystem and biodiversity. The park is also taking the survival of the King Crab as an indicator of the strong health of the forest and a reflection of their sustained efforts in preserving the animals inside it. 'The appearance of the king crab not only marks the discovery of a rare animal, but also serves as a key indicator of the health of the ecosystem in Kaeng Krachan National Park, a World Heritage Site renowned for its incredible biodiversity. The survival of this protected wildlife demonstrates the outstanding quality of the forest's environment," read the park's social media post. The King Crab, also named Sirindhorn Crab, derives its name from the princess of Thailand, Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The crab species belongs to the panda family, according to a report by Popular Science. The panda crabs are usually famous for their white-and-black markings. However, the sighting of a purple crab was still unexpected, as it is a rare variation of the same. Very little information is available about the panda crabs as it is, people know even less about the purple variant. Why The Purple Colour? According to a 2012 National Geographic report, Hendrik Freitag of the Senckenberg Museum of Zoology observed in a study that the purple hue of the crab may have developed by 'chance". 'The particular violet colouration might just have evolved by chance, and must not necessarily have a very specific function or reason aside from being a general visual signal for recognition," said Hendrik.
