Enzo Maresca reveals new transfer 'priority' after Chelsea pre-season victory
Colwill played a crucial role in Maresca's first season, but will miss the majority of the upcoming campaign after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury on the first day of Chelsea's pre-season.
The Blues have already signed centre-back Jorrel Hato from Ajax and have Wesley Fofana returning to first-team training after his lengthy spell on the treatment table.
But despite that, Maresca suggested that Chelsea will make it a priority to replenish their defensive options before the end of the window in the wake of Colwill's injury.
'It's a priority for me, yes, because Levi is a fantastic player,' Maresca told Channel 5 after Chelsea's 2-0 pre-season win against Bayern Leverkusen when asked if the club would move to bring in cover for Colwill.

'What we achieved last season is because of him also. I love him, I'm going to miss him. We are trying also to find different solutions.'
Pressed again if Chelsea planned to sign another centre-back before the end of the window, Maresca responded: 'We'll see, we'll see.'
While Colwill played no part on Friday, it was an otherwise positive start to Chelsea's shortened pre-season action as they coasted to victory against an poor Leverkusen.
Estevao marked his Chelsea debut in style when the Brazilian tucked home a rebound for his first goal for the club in the first half.
And his fellow countryman Joao Pedro was on hand in the closing stages of the second half to ensure victory with an emphatic finish into the bottom corner.
'I'm very happy with the performance especially as we have trained just three or four days together,' Maresca added.
'We don't have time for pre-season. We have another game on Sunday. More Trending
'Not all of the players are going to be happy always. If they don't play, they're not happy.
'But they have to understand that they are all good – 22, 23, 24 players – and they have to understand that there will be many rotations.'
Asked about Estevao's impressive performance, the Italian added: 'He's very, very young.
'For sure, as I said yesterday, he is going to help the team. He's a fantastic player.'

Revealed: Alejandro Garnacho's stance on possible Chelsea move after Man United set asking price for 'bomb squad' member - as Blues consider defensive signing
Alejandro Garnacho has set his mind on a move to Chelsea after Manchester United revealed their asking price. The Red Devils have been looking to offload Garnacho all summer, with the Argentine international one of the unwanted players placed into a 'bomb squad'. Garnacho was told by United boss Ruben Amorim to find a new club in May, after the winger was unhappy to start on the bench in the Europa League final. Chelsea hold strong interest in the 20-year-old, who is believed to be valued at £50million - significantly less than the £70m that United initially wanted. The Blues' hierarchy have no concerns over his character after doing their homework. In total Garnacho has played 144 games for United and has scored 26 goals, while he has provided 22 assists. He won the FA Cup with United in the 2023-24 campaign and the EFL Cup in the previous season. The Stamford Bridge club are still assessing whether to add another centre back for Enzo Maresca but intend to sell before making more buys. Nicolas Jackson remains an option for the likes of Newcastle while Christopher Nkunku is wanted by former club RB LEIPZIG as part of negotiations over Xavi Simons. Nkunku has a number of options but Chelsea would be open to reducing the fee for Simons by including the French forward in any deal. Leipzig are also keen on Chelsea's Tyrique George.

Chelsea fans send X-rated message to Mike Maignan after failed transfer talks
Chelsea held talks with AC Milan over a possible deal for Mike Maignan earlier this summer and he was serenaded by Blues fans during a friendly match between the two clubs Mischievous Chelsea fans teased Mike Maignan with a cheeky chant during Sunday's 4-1 friendly win over the French goalkeeper's AC Milan side at Stamford Bridge. Maignan, 29, emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Blues earlier this summer and talks over a potential deal were even held before Enzo Maresca and his team jetted off to the United States to compete in the Club World Cup, which they went on to win. Talks over a deal collapsed, though, and it has since been reported that Chelsea are content with their keeper options. And Chelsea fans threw their backing behind Robert Sanchez when Maignan and AC Milan played them on Sunday, chanting: "You're just a s*** Robert Sanchez." Sanchez ended the 2024-25 campaign as Chelsea's first-choice keeper and is expected to start the new season as Maresca's No 1. The Blues also have Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders on their books, with the latter highly-rated and currently on loan at Strasbourg for the season. It was Sanchez who started in between the sticks on an afternoon to forget for Maignan and the Italian giants, with Chelsea going on to win their final warm-up match ahead of the new Premier League season 4-1. Goals from Joao Pedro and a brace from the Blues other new striker, Liam Delap, added to an eighth minute own goal from Andrei Coubis. Yousouff Fofana scored a consolation for Milan in the second half. Chelsea will be hoping to improve on last season's fourth-place finish after performing so well at the Club World Cup. And Maresca reckons his side are in rude health ahead of their season opener against Crystal Palace next Sunday. "I think the performance was very, very, very good until the red card,' the Italian said. "We started the way we wanted to start, intense and with a high tempo on and off the ball. "The red card changed a little bit the game but it's also normal [that the energy dropped a little] as Milan started pre-season on 4 July, 40 days ago, and this was their sixth friendly game. "For us, it's our second one. But overall, I'm very happy and now we start the Premier League." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
