WNBA Player Ruled OUT for Sky-Liberty Game

WNBA Player Ruled OUT for Sky-Liberty Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday against the Indiana Fever, dropping them to a 2-5 record during the 2025 WNBA season. Advertisement After losing 93 to 58 to the Fever on opening day, the Sky fell once again, this time by a score of 79 to 52. Despite Indiana's 79 points being the fewest that Chicago has given up all season, the Sky's 52 points on Saturday were the franchise's lowest since 2011 (via CHGO Sky). No player scored in double figures for the Sky in the loss, but both Kamilla Cardoso and Rebecca Allen had eight points. Hailey Van Lith and Elizabeth Williams each added seven. Chicago Sky guard Moriah Jefferson (4).David Butler II-Imagn Images On Sunday, the Sky announced that 15-year veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot would undergo surgery on a torn ACL, causing her to miss the remainder of the season. She sustained the injury during the first quarter of Saturday's contest. Advertisement The hits kept coming for Chicago, as they reported on Monday that point guard Moriah Jefferson would be out once again for Tuesday's game against the 8-0 New York Liberty. "Chicago Sky Status Report for tomorrow's game against the Liberty," Sky reporter Karli Bell wrote. "Moriah Jefferson (leg) is OUT." Jefferson has played eight WNBA seasons and was traded to the Sky from the Connecticut Sun alongside Rachel Banham last season in a deal that also featured Marina Mabrey. She played 14 games for Chicago in 2024 and averaged 0.9 points and 1.7 assists (via Pro Basketball Reference). She has yet to play in a contest during the 2025 WNBA season as she has dealt with a leg injury. That stretch will continue as she was ruled out once again for Tuesday's contest against the defending champion New York Liberty. Advertisement Chicago will travel to the Barclays Center for their second matchup of the season against the Liberty. Last month, the Sky fell to New York by a score of 99 to 74. The Sky will have a chance to remedy this loss and try to earn their third win of the season on Tuesday. Tipoff for this Commissioner's Cup game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST. U.S. Open preview - Golf's toughest test awaits at Oakmont

Yahoo Sports senior writer Jay Busbee previews this week's major outside Pittsburgh - which will host the event for a tenth time on a track known as one of America's most difficult golf courses. View more Video Transcript Hide your scorecards, my friends, because the US Open is back and the toughest tournament in golf this year is being played at one of the toughest courses in the country. Advertisement That would be Oakmont, the old classic. It's been around since 1904. It's hosted now 10 US Opens, more than any other course in the United States, and it's going to be an incredible challenge for today's golfers for a number of reasons, starting with the rough, as much as 5 inches deep in some places, the famous. Church Pew and piano keys, bunkers, cinematic and also devastating to your score if you happen to end up in them. And then the greens, which are so slick, that Sam Snead once said he put a dime down to mark his ball and it slid off the edge of the green. Now who can handle this kind of course? Advertisement Well, Scotty Scheffer, of course, he's already got 3 majors. He might well win 2 more before the year is out. He's not quite at Scotty versus the field level, but he's very, very close, right behind. Hi. You've got Rory McIlroy, understandably a bit out of form since his emotional win at Augusta back in April. He missed the cut last week at the RBC Canadian. That's a bit of a concern for him and for anybody else who's looking to watch him win his second major. A little further down, you've got John Rohm playing very well on Liv. That's kind of damning with faint praise because while he's been able to hold leads, he hasn't been able to keep leads over the course of the last Few months, most notably last last month at Quail Hollow in the PGA Championship when he let it get away from him late. Advertisement Then of course there's Bryson DeShambo, Rohm's mate over at Liv Golf, playing very well in most phases of the game, always in competition in majors lately, but his iron play is a bit suspect, and you're going to need to be accurate off the tee if you're going to win at Oakmont. He should be in the mix, but will he be holding up the trophy at the end of it? To be determined. Now, in terms of a sleeper, a guy you might want to look at is someone who's had some strong iron play, that would be Terrell Hatton. He's never won a major, but he has made the cut in 13 of the last 14 majors that he's played, and he's extremely accurate with his irons. Advertisement Plus, the side benefit of that is that he would be the first golfer whose celebration speech at the end would be an FCC violation. We will be live all week from Oakmont. Join us at Yahoo Sports. I am Jay Busby. We will see you from the US Open.

Jokes Are Pouring in After Sky Lose to Fever Despite Caitlin Clark Being Out

Jokes Are Pouring in After Sky Lose to Fever Despite Caitlin Clark Being Out originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the second time this WNBA season, the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky faced off against one another, with Saturday's matchup coming as a part of the WNBA's Commissioner's Cup. Advertisement While the outcomes of the two games were similar in the sense that the Fever absolutely blew the Sky out, the manner in which the wins came about were quite different. In the first meeting which also happened to be the season opener, 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark led the way for the Fever with a triple-double. On Saturday, Clark was out for what was her fourth straight game with a left quadriceps injury. Aside from their star player, the Fever were also missing Sophie Cunningham (ankle), and head coach Stephanie White (personal reasons). That didn't slow down the Fever by any means as they went on to win by a score of 79-52 in front of a sell-out United Center crowd of 19,496 fans. As one could imagine, fans on social media did not hold back on the Sky, who due to Angel Reese's rivalrous relationship with Clark that dates back to college, are viewed as the team's biggest rival. Advertisement "Fever destroyed the Sky with and without Caitlin Clark lmao," wrote one user. "The Chicago Sky getting blew out by the Indiana Fever without Caitlin Clark & Stephanie White," commented a second. "Paying hundreds of dollars to see Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese in the United Center only for Clark to not play and the Sky still get beat by 30," added another. "No Caitlin, no white,🤣🤣🤣 what are they gonna say now ?? 😭😭," questioned another. "Sky got blown out by the Fever without Caitlin Clark," pointed out another fan. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) against the Indiana Krzaczynski-Imagn Images The Fever have had the Sky's number both this season and last, as the Fever are now 5-1 against their rival dating back to last season. The loss drops the Sky down to 2-5 in the season, while lifting the Fever to 4-4. Advertisement For the Sky, they'll take on the New York Liberty on Tuesday for their next game, while the Fever take on the Atlanta Dream. According to reports before Saturday's game, Clark is expected to return for the Fever.
