While the outcomes of the two games were similar in the sense that the Fever absolutely blew the Sky out, the manner in which the wins came about were quite different. In the first meeting which also happened to be the season opener, 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark led the way for the Fever with a triple-double.
On Saturday, Clark was out for what was her fourth straight game with a left quadriceps injury. Aside from their star player, the Fever were also missing Sophie Cunningham (ankle), and head coach Stephanie White (personal reasons).
That didn't slow down the Fever by any means as they went on to win by a score of 79-52 in front of a sell-out United Center crowd of 19,496 fans.
As one could imagine, fans on social media did not hold back on the Sky, who due to Angel Reese's rivalrous relationship with Clark that dates back to college, are viewed as the team's biggest rival.

"Fever destroyed the Sky with and without Caitlin Clark lmao," wrote one user.
"The Chicago Sky getting blew out by the Indiana Fever without Caitlin Clark & Stephanie White," commented a second.
"Paying hundreds of dollars to see Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese in the United Center only for Clark to not play and the Sky still get beat by 30," added another.
"No Caitlin, no white,🤣🤣🤣 what are they gonna say now ?? 😭😭," questioned another.
"Sky got blown out by the Fever without Caitlin Clark," pointed out another fan.

For the Sky, they'll take on the New York Liberty on Tuesday for their next game, while the Fever take on the Atlanta Dream. According to reports before Saturday's game, Clark is expected to return for the Fever.

College World Series: Murray State clinches final spot in Omaha with 5-4 win over Duke
Luke Mistone's leadoff home run in the eighth inning powered Murray State to a 5-4 win over Duke in the decisive Game 3 of their Super Regional series at Durham, North Carolina. The win clinched the final spot in the eight-team Men's College World Series for the Racers. Murray State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Jonathan Hogart leadoff homer and Dom Decker RBI single following a Carson Garner double. But Duke answered in the bottom half of the frame, cutting the deficit in half on Jake Hyde's sacrifice fly that scored Wallace Clark. Advertisement Hyde tied the score at 2-2 with a third-inning homer off Murray State reliever Reese Oakley with one out. The Blue Devils went on top one inning later with Jake Berger's leadoff home run. Duke momentarily looked as if it might add to its 3-2 lead in the fourth with a deep drive to right field by AJ Gracia. However, the ball stayed in the park, caught at the wall by Dustin Mercer. Oakley also allowed another long fly ball to Clark in the sixth, but Hogart caught the ball at the warning track to keep the Racers within one run. Two deep flies that were caught at the outfield wall and prevented Duke from taking the lead allowed an opportunity for Murray State to tie the game. Hogart did just that on a solo home run with one out in the seventh. That set up Mistone's heroics in the following inning, chasing Duke reliever Reid Easterly from the game after three innings and two home runs allowed. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, James Tallon couldn't shut down the Racers' lineup from there. He hit Will Vierling with a pitch and then gave Murray State a 5-3 lead by serving up a double to Dan Tauken. Advertisement Tallon stayed in trouble by issuing consecutive walks to Nico Bermeo and Conner Cunningham to load the bases with no outs. However, he managed to keep the Racers from scoring any more by striking out Hogart, getting Mercer to hit into a force play at home and striking out Garner to end the inning. Duke cut its deficit to 5-4 in the eighth on a two-out home run by Macon Winslow. Murray State reliever Graham Kelham then put the tying run on base by walking Noah Murray on five pitches. However, he struck out Kyle Johnson to maintain the lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Kelham flirted with danger by hitting leadoff hitter Clark with a pitch. However, he recovered by getting Gracia to foul out to left field. Ben Miller then hit a groundball to shortstop which got the out at second base. But umpires ruled Clark interfered with Decker by running into him at the bag. Advertisement What would have been a game-ending double play was instead overturned after review. Coming back from a premature on-field celebration, the Racers finished the win with Kelham getting Hyde to ground out to first base. Murray State will face UCLA in its opening Men's College World Series matchup. Game 1 in Omaha is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.

Fever Make Final Decision on Sophie Cunningham Before Dream Game
Fever Make Final Decision on Sophie Cunningham Before Dream Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever come into Tuesday's contest against the Atlanta Dream at 4-4 on the young season, having split their last four games. Advertisement The Fever snapped a three-game skid on June 3 against the Washington Mystics before a commanding 79-52 victory over the Chicago Sky on Saturday, powered by Kelsey Mitchell's 17 points. Yet Indiana's inconsistency has coincided with key injuries to two of its most pivotal guards: Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. On Monday, it was revealed that neither Clark nor Cunningham would suit up for Tuesday's road trip to Atlanta, pushing their earliest possible return to Saturday's matchup with the defending champions New York Liberty. Clark suffered a left quadriceps strain on May 24 in the Fever's narrow 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty, sidelining her for at least two weeks. Advertisement Just days later, Cunningham reaggravated an ankle injury initially sustained in the preseason on May 10, leaving the Fever down another backcourt veteran after a narrow 85-83 loss to the Connecticut Sun on May 30. To shore up the roster, Indiana signed former All-Rookie guard Aari McDonald to an emergency hardship contract on June 1, and she has since provided a spark off the bench. In two contests, McDonald has averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals across 26 minutes per game. WNBA Player Ruled OUT for Sky-Liberty Game
WNBA Player Ruled OUT for Sky-Liberty Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday against the Indiana Fever, dropping them to a 2-5 record during the 2025 WNBA season. Advertisement After losing 93 to 58 to the Fever on opening day, the Sky fell once again, this time by a score of 79 to 52. Despite Indiana's 79 points being the fewest that Chicago has given up all season, the Sky's 52 points on Saturday were the franchise's lowest since 2011 (via CHGO Sky). No player scored in double figures for the Sky in the loss, but both Kamilla Cardoso and Rebecca Allen had eight points. Hailey Van Lith and Elizabeth Williams each added seven. Chicago Sky guard Moriah Jefferson (4).David Butler II-Imagn Images On Sunday, the Sky announced that 15-year veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot would undergo surgery on a torn ACL, causing her to miss the remainder of the season. She sustained the injury during the first quarter of Saturday's contest. Advertisement The hits kept coming for Chicago, as they reported on Monday that point guard Moriah Jefferson would be out once again for Tuesday's game against the 8-0 New York Liberty. "Chicago Sky Status Report for tomorrow's game against the Liberty," Sky reporter Karli Bell wrote. "Moriah Jefferson (leg) is OUT." Jefferson has played eight WNBA seasons and was traded to the Sky from the Connecticut Sun alongside Rachel Banham last season in a deal that also featured Marina Mabrey. She played 14 games for Chicago in 2024 and averaged 0.9 points and 1.7 assists (via Pro Basketball Reference). She has yet to play in a contest during the 2025 WNBA season as she has dealt with a leg injury. That stretch will continue as she was ruled out once again for Tuesday's contest against the defending champion New York Liberty. Advertisement Chicago will travel to the Barclays Center for their second matchup of the season against the Liberty. Last month, the Sky fell to New York by a score of 99 to 74. The Sky will have a chance to remedy this loss and try to earn their third win of the season on Tuesday. Tipoff for this Commissioner's Cup game is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST.
