Man Utd transfer target LEFT OUT of Man City's Club World Cup squad as Red Devils ‘eye controversial deal from rivals'

JAMES McATEE has reportedly been left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad amid links with rivals Manchester United.
Shock reports claim McAtee, 22, has emerged as a target for the Red Devils this summer.

The playmaker has been at City since 2013, rising up through the academy before taking in a double loan spell at Sheffield United.
This season saw McAtee emerge as a rotation player under Guardiola, with the ace netting seven goals in 27 outings.
However, City have numerous attacking options both in midfield and out wide.
Guardiola is also said to be plotting swoops for the likes of Lyon's Rayan Cherki and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.
And that could see McAtee become available for a transfer away from the Etihad, with United thought to be circling.
Now, speculation regarding his City future has heated up after McAtee was left out of the squad for the Club World Cup.
The tournament runs simultaneously alongside the U21s Euros in Slovakia.
Having initially not been included, McAtee has now been added to England's pre-tournament training squad.
And the Mail claims it means he is unlikely to feature for City ever again, with Guardiola seemingly happy to not have him on board for the lucrative club tournament in America.
To compound things, teammate Rico Lewis was also eligible for U21s selection.
Bruno Fernandes enjoys dinner with Al-Hilal 'secret agent' Joao Cancelo as he faces Man Utd exit decision
But unlike McAtee, he has not been called up by England as City want him to travel to the Club World Cup instead.
Another factor at play is that McAtee's contract expires in 2026, with City needing to either hand him a new deal or cash in before he becomes a free agent.
Guardiola previously indicated he wanted McAtee to stay, but admitted the youngster could struggle for minutes if he remains at City.
Guardiola in April: 'For the age, I'd like him to stay. But I understand players want more minutes.
'He can play different positions but I don't know how the squad will be and we will see.'

It's not raining at the moment - the England players are still engaged in a pretty lengthy game of group head tennis on the outfield - but the forecast has a high chance of rain through the next three hours. The possibility of precipitation reduces after that, but we're not entirely clear until pretty late in the evening. The match has been delayed because West Indies were stuck in heavy traffic en route to the ground from their hotel 3.5 miles away. England have been here a while but the visitors did not appear at The Oval until around 12:40 - 10 minutes after the toss should have taken place. They have still not emerged to do some proper warm-ups. We're told the toss will be at 13:10 BST with the match beginning at 13:30. It could be raining by then. Update: Date: 12:48 BST Title: Post Content: Ah, so as I finished writing that, the West Indies team started filtering onto the changing room balcony, and we've been told the toss will take place at 13:10 BST. The match was due to start at 13:00 BST but that has been pushed back half an hour. Update: Date: 12:45 BST Title: Post Content: Look, we've all been there. You've hauled yourself out of bed, hopped in and out of the shower so fast the water's barely touched you, hurried out the door with your shoes untied and your shirt on backwards... but you're on time, you'll make it... Until you hit traffic. And that's what's happened to the West Indies today - their coach has been somewhere on a clogged road in South London. So we've got a delayed toss for the third and final ODI at The Oval.

BBC boss wants probe into ‘grinding cuts' at broadcaster

BBC Director-General Tim Davie is advocating for reforming the corporation's funding model, including re-evaluating the licence fee structure. Mr Davie stressed the importance of universal funding for the BBC and called for an investigation into the 'grinding cuts' he said the corporation has faced over the past decade. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has announced the upcoming launch of the BBC Charter review to support a sustainably funded public service and a creative industries sector plan to boost growth across the UK. The review follows a Government commitment to increase the licence fee in line with inflation until 2027. In April, the household charge rose from £169.50 to £174.50. Mr Davie also said the BBC has 'very big ambition around the media supply chain' including the 'need for muscular partnerships with the big American technology companies'.
