Epic Royal Show preview kicks off countdown to annual event
Excitement is building for the highly anticipated annual event, with a taste of what to expect on display inside Centenary Pavilion on Wednesday.
Camboon Primary School students got to get amongst the action.
Ten-year-old Astrid Snook said she cannot wait to come back to the showground with her mum when it officially opens to eat sweet food and pat the farm animals.
'I'm definitely excited for more bananas dipped in chocolate and the animals,' she said.

'I am going to keep going until I'm an old grandma and bring my kids because it's the best and really amazing,' she said.
Five-year-old Jacob Perry was showing off one of his eight pet cows to the city kids who, unlike him, don't see farm animals every day.
But for Jacob, the animals aren't the exciting part.
'I love going on the rides,' he said.
'Rollercoasters and the swing chairs are my favourite.'
The executive officer of the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia, Robyn Sermon, revealed the upcoming show will feature new attractions, including exclusive rides and after-dark activities.
'To make this not an everyday event, we have locked in some amazing new attractions this year and more value, more variety,' Ms Sermon said.
'For the first time ever, in Perth, we will be welcoming the flying force. They are a Canadian based high diving team that will dive from a platform 25 meters above the arena into a three-meter deep pool. Ella, Mya and Astrid enjoy the rides. Credit: Ian Munro / The West Australian
'They will be doing that three times a day. It will be even more exciting at night, when we literally light them up.
'We will turn the arena into a 360 degree sky theatre, this (will be) the most innovative fireworks we've ever had, and we'll be wrapping the audience in colour, sound and light.
'We're launching a new late-night precinct, called Late Night Woodies, featuring fun, country-inspired music and entertainment, which will start after the fireworks every night.
'We are debuting a brand new ride, the 24-meter Luna Ritz, which has arrived from Europe and will debut in Australia for the first time at this year's Royal Show.'
It has been made possible thanks to a $2.8 million funding boost from the government and an additional $950,000 from Lotterywest.
Agricultural minister Jackie Jarvis said sh is proud to see the Royal Show's agricultural precinct continue to grow in popularity. Perth Royal Show preview at Claremont Showgrounds. Pupils from Camboon Primary School grab their showbags. Credit: Ian Munro / The West Australian
'We know side show alley is popular, we know the show bags are popular, but I could not be prouder that this show continues to go from strength to strength in supporting agriculture,' she said.
'Everything that's linked to agriculture and everything that is great about agriculture in Western Australia, you'll see here at the Perth Royal Show.'
Ms Jarvis hopes to match last years record breaking attendance number of more than 430,000 showgoers
A $600,000 program to support affiliated agricultural shows around the state was also announced on Wednesday in a government first. Annabelle, Nathan and Jacob Perry with a strange looking sheep. Credit: Ian Munro / The West Australian

The mixologists who are shaking up Perth's cocktail scene
Perth's gin-credible cocktail scene is heating up. Some of the CBD's most prestigious bars — Terrarium, Mechanics Institute, Bar Lafayette and Ritz Carlton's Songbird — will be graced by a cohort of the globe's most esteemed mixologists as part of Plateful Perth's Cocktail Weekend next weekend. Songbird will collaborate with Singapore's Sago House, one of Asia's best bars, with guest bartenders, Naz Zurmi and Ronan Keilthy, taking over on Friday evening. Songbird venue supervisor Kristen Sly said punters could expect 'good cocktails and good vibes'. 'It's going to be an awesome opportunity to show off cocktails, not just from Australia, but also from Asia,' she said. Terrarium and Mechanics Institute will team up with Sydney's Bar DEMO and A Little Cooler, respectively, while Bar Lafayette will join forces with Hobart's Rude Boy, using native ingredients to serve up Aussie-inspired cocktails. Ms Sly said she was proud of Perth's booming cocktail community. 'Perth's cocktail scene is growing, and it's only getting stronger,' she said. 'I think there's a demand for craft cocktails and showing off what creativity Perth can bring to the market, but I also think that classic cocktails are still pretty popular. 'We sell so many espresso martinis and spicy margaritas, but it's also awesome to show off some creative spice in those cocktails too.' Mr Manca described cocktails as 'more than just a liquid' and said he was excited to show off Bar Lafayette's creative flair. Perth bartender Kristen Sly form Songbird Bar. 'I just want to bring a little more to the community, I want to raise the expectation of what a cocktail is — it's more than just a liquid, it's what's in the details. 'Our mission is to make classic cocktails with a twist, so they can drink something familiar, but also unexpected.' Plateful of Perth's Cocktail Weekend runs from Friday to Saturday. Blooming good days
Araluen Botanic Park is bright with colour, and the annual tulip display kicks off on August 22. Around 250,000 tulips will bloom for Yates' Springtime at Araluen Tulip Festival, at Araluen Botanic Park in Roleystone. They sit among green lawns, bubbling streams and bushland trails. The festival continues until October 3. New this year is a special evening — Symphony Among the Tulips. It is on September 13 and 14, with host Dolce Ensembles performing symphonic tributes to Queen and Fleetwood Mac, under the stars. A little window into the past … JJ 'Boss' Simons, the founder of the Young Australia League, was drawn to the valley in which Araluen sits in 1902. His idea was to develop a weekend retreat where YAL members could enjoy some outdoor life. As YAL members travelled the world, they were asked to bring back plants for Araluen. The park gardens were developed to sit well with Canadian-style log cabins, water features and pergolas. The YAL has taken over the park with little more than the tracks left by timber cutters during the 1800s but, over more than 20 years, they laid the basis of what we see as Araluen and the park it is today. + The YAL is the oldest youth organisation in Western Australia. Since 1905, it has supported young Australians, from scholarships and financial support to mentorship and social connection. Spring is almost in the air. The WA wildflower season is working its way south, towards the metro area. In preparation, here are the planned events for this year. + Nannup Flower and Garden Festival. Ends tomorrow, August 17, 2025. + Outback Bloom, Mullewa's Wildflower Festival. August 28 to 31, 2025. The Wildflower Show at the Mullewa Town Hall is open daily from 9am to 4pm, but closes on Sunday at 2pm. $5 admission, children under 12, free. + Chittering Spring Festival. August 31 to September 21, 2025. + Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show. September 8 to 20, 2025. + Kings Park Everlasting Festival. September 12 to 29, 2025. + Esperance Wildflower Festival. September 20 to 24, 2025. + Albany Wildflower Show. September 24 to 27, 2025. + Great Southern Bloom Festival, Annual Spring Festival. September 27 to October 26, 2025.

Perth's 96FM radio reveals Russell Clarke to replace Dean ‘Clairsy' Clairs as breakfast co-host with Lisa Shaw
After rocking the Perth radio scene on Monday with an on-air announcement of his departure from 96FM's top-rating breakfast show, Dean Clairs dropped another bombshell on Friday when he and co-host Lisa Shaw revealed Clairsy's replacement. Russell Clarke will step into one of the most coveted gigs in Perth radio, at the city's No.1 station, joining Shaw from Monday. Clarke is a familiar voice for 96FM listeners, having previously hosted the Afternoons show at the station before departing earlier this year. 'I'm really looking forward to returning to 96FM, after a little time off, and working again with Lisa, who I have known for many years,' Clarke told The West Australian. 'I'm also looking forward to reconnecting with 96FM's listeners, and, together with Lisa, getting the day underway, with just great songs and plenty of laughs.' Shaw said the departure of Clairsy was like saying goodbye to a brother, but she and Clarke 'go way back', so it was like reuniting with her 'other brother'. The all-new Lisa & Russell show will feature an increased dose of listener favourite Adrian Barich, with the Seven News sports guru upping his on-air presence to appear on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. West Coast Eagle Elliot Yeo and Fremantle Docker Hayden Young and the other regular guests from the Clairsy & Lisa Show will also be returning. The Lisa & Russell show airs from 6am Monday.
