Voters return to the polls today for general election
TUPELO — Voters will return to the polls today for the final municipal election of the year, with two of Tupelo's seven seats still up for grabs. The polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Residents from Ward 3 and Ward 5 have their chance to decide who will represent their area for the next four years. In Ward 3, incumbent Republican Travis Beard, a retired teacher, will face Democrat Shirley Hendrix, owner of R&B Specialty Printing. Beard is running for a third full term. Neither opponent had challengers during the April 1 primary elections, which secured their seats without need for voting. In Ward 5, Democrat Candria Lewis and Republican Bentley Nolan both hope to take the seat left vacant when incumbent Republican Councilman Buddy Palmer, who decided not to run for reelection, leaves the council in July. While Nolan defeated two Republican opponents in the primary and subsequent runoff election, Lewis had no primary opposition. Whomever claims the reins for Ward 3 and Ward 5 will join the other candidates who either won in the primary election or ran unopposed. They include Republican Ward 1 Councilman Chad Mims, Republican Ward 2 Councilman Lynn Bryan, Democrat Ward 4 Councilwoman Nettie Davis, Republican Ward 6 Councilwoman Janet Gaston, Democrat Ward 7 Councilwoman Rosie Jones and Republican Mayor Todd Jordan. New terms will begin July 1, giving Palmer one more month as part of the council before becoming councilman emeritus.

Dave Portnoy target of antisemitic comment during Barstool Sports pizza review
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy was on the receiving end of an antisemitic comment as he filmed a pizza review in Toronto. Portnoy, doing a review at Terrazza for his ever-famous 'One Bite' reviews that was posted Monday, was outside the shop with a box containing a pizza pie as someone off camera went by and yelled 'F–k the Jews' toward Portnoy. 'See, there we go, there we go,' Portnoy, who is Jewish, said after the person made the comment. Advertisement A few young fans of the Bartsool Sports head standing behind him then started to laugh, which led Portnoy to reprimand them. 'What are you guys f–king laughing about?' he said as he turned toward the fans, who then became quiet. 'Exactly. So here we go, one bite everybody knows the rules. We won't let that get … what is that Toronto hospitality there? Advertisement 'That's terrible, terrible ' said Bill the Greek, who was with Portnoy for the video in Canada. This incident comes about a month after a server at a Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia allegedly carried out a sign during a bottle service that read 'f–k the Jews.' Dave Portnoy heard the comment during a pizza review in Toronto. One Bite Pizza Reviews/YouTube Two servers were fired and two Temple University students were suspended after the incident at Barstool Sansom. Advertisement 'We are saddened, embarrassed, and frustrated by the deplorable actions of a customer and misguided staff,' Barstool Samson Street said in a post after the incident. 'Who the f—k would do that sign in my f—king bar? You think I'm just gonna sit here? I'm gonna make it my f—king mission to put you in lights. My f—king mission,' Portnoy said in the immediate aftermath of the sign going viral. 'What I'm saying is, I'm getting the names, I'm trying to be a little responsible, I'm trying to keep it together, but I'm on it,' he said. 'But I'm on it. I'm f—king on it.' Portnoy chided the fans for laughing after the comments. One Bite Pizza Reviews/YouTube Advertisement Portnoy then offered two customers a trip to Auschwitz in Poland to better educate themselves, but he then took away the offer to at least one of the people, as Portnoy said the person denied responsibility for what happened after the Temple student allegedly posted the sign on social media. 'His trip to Poland has been revoked,' Portnoy said in a post on X. 'Whatever ramifications come his way he 100% earned.' 'I'm like trying to make this a teachable moment, throw a lifeline to a kid, and he's like, 'Well, I already got suspended from Temple' because you got a 'f–k the Jews' sign at a bar and posted it on social media,'' Portnoy added.

Hotel security officer testifies Diddy paid $100K to suppress assault video
This is a free article for Diddy on Trial newsletter subscribers. Sign up to get exclusive reporting and analysis throughout Sean Combs' federal trial. Much of today's testimony was spent revisiting Diddy's March 2016 assault on Casandra Ventura, an incident at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles that was captured on security video and shown to jurors at the start of his trial. Eddy Garcia, the hotel's security supervisor, testified that Diddy and his team desperately wanted to get the sole copy of the video and prevent it from getting out. In exchange for $100,000 divided among members of the hotel's security team, Garcia said, he signed a nondisclosure agreement that called for his silence and the destruction of evidence. Here's what else to know about today's testimony: Garcia testified that he was so 'nervous' about the NDA that he didn't read it all before he signed it. Diddy presented stacks of cash in a brown paper bag, added Garcia, who said he bought a used car with his $30,000 share. Garcia also said he wasn't initially truthful to police when he was asked about the assault. On cross-examination, the defense pointed out the NDA didn't stop Garcia from speaking about it in legal proceedings, a line of questioning presumably intended to undermine the government's potential claim of obstruction of justice. After Garcia, Derek Ferguson, the former chief financial officer of Bad Boy Entertainment, took the stand to discuss the structure of Diddy's businesses and how money flowed. 🔎 The view from inside By Adam Reiss and Jing Feng For the first time during the trial, a spectator disrupted the courtroom decorum, prompting U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian to order court marshals to 'escort her out right now.' The uproar began before the jury was seated and Garcia took the stand. At first, both prosecutors and the defense team were discussing with Subramanian exhibits in the trial and whether to offer evidence of Diddy's jail calls. Prosecutors also complained to Subramanian that a person who had been in the courtroom Monday broadcast on YouTube the real identity of a government witness, who went by the pseudonym 'Mia' when she testified. Suddenly, a woman in the courtroom began shouting in defense of Diddy, including that 'it's not right what they're doing to him' and 'Diddy's innocent.' She was quickly removed. Prosecutors later told Subramanian that the true name and identity of 'Mia' were being reported and asked for him to ban the outlet that made them public from the court. He said he would consider such a court order. 🗓️ What's next Tomorrow: Frank Piazza, a forensic video expert, and Bryana Bangolan, who alleges that Diddy dangled her over an apartment balcony, may testify. PSA: Every night during Diddy's trial, NBC's 'Dateline' will drop special episodes of the 'True Crime Weekly' podcast to get you up to speed. 'Dateline' correspondent Andrea Canning chats with NBC News' Chloe Melas and special guests — right in front of the courthouse. Listen here. 🎧 This article was originally published on
