Deion Sanders dealing with mystery health issue as he stays away from Colorado
Sanders also did not attend the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research's annual symposium Sunday despite being the keynote speaker due to an 'unavoidable last-minute scheduling change' that left him 'unable to attend,' the foundation tweeted on June 5.
Deion Sanders Jr., the son of the NFL Hall of Famer, said Sunday on a YouTube livestream from the family's home in Texas that his father is 'feeling well' but did not offer many specifics.

'He'll tell y'all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,' Deion Jr. said, per USA Today.
'When we get back in Boulder, I don't know. I'm waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I'll go. Until then, I'm gonna sit here with him.'

Sanders, 57, is known for being in the spotlight and often is quite visible across social media platforms, making his public absence all the more startling.
He attended the school's summer camps in each of the past two years since being hired in December 2022, according to USA Today.
The promotional material on the school's athletics website features Sanders next to the listed dates, which included June 3 and 5 events along with youth football camps this Tuesday and Wednesday and a women's clinic Thursday.

Sanders attended the school's spring game April 19 and was with his son, Shedeur, during his slide in the NFL draft the following week, but has not done many interviews since the quarterback's shocking fall to the fifth round.
Sanders told former Patriots star cornerback Asante Samuel on the latter's podcast in late May that 'what I'm dealing with right now is at a whole other level' after Samuel said he hopes he feels better.
The college head coach said he hasn't had energy, but then promoted a product so it's possible those points may have been correlated.

'I've done no media, I've done nothing now … for a minute,' Sanders said. 'Coming on with you, I ain't been with nobody for a minute. I've lost about 14 pounds, I'm coming back, but I needed this.'
Sanders' recent tweets have mostly been religious and praising God, aside from one where he showed a bucket filled with 'Fresh eggs from the SANDERS CHICKENS!'
He last posted to X on Monday morning.
'I know you're faced with a task that seems like it's impossible to come out of this with a win,' Sanders said. 'The enemy wants your mind & he wants it to doubt that GOD CAN! You got this but u gotta BELIEVE all the thru this & then after. You will have the victory. #CoachPrime.'
Sanders has dealt with health issues in recent years, including surgery in 2023 to fix blood clots in his left leg, per ESPN.

College football insider provides update on Colorado football quarterback battle
College sports analyst and On3 football insider Pete Nakos gave a breakdown of the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback competition and what he has been hearing coming out of Boulder. Nakos broke down what he's heard and expects from the Buffs on the QB front this upcoming season. "Deion Sanders and offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur have been mum to this point on the ongoing quarterback battle between Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Julian Lewis," Nakos wrote. "Salter is the more experienced of the two quarterbacks, playing in 30 career games. One source told On3 that they give the Liberty transfer the edge at this point to win the competition." While the senior Salter might be the frontrunner as we head into the final week of fall camp, Lewis is the future and still might have something to say about who starts Week 1. "[Salter's experience] does not mean Lewis is out of the picture," Nakos continued. "One source told On3 that it would not be surprised if Colorado employs some type of platoon situation with Lewis getting a few drives per game." The two-quarterback plan has been floated as an option during camp, and in theory, it makes sense, but it's often challenging to implement effectively. Although Salter seems likely to win the starting job, Lewis should see playing time at some point this year, regardless of whether the team adopts a two-quarterback system. The Buffaloes have just under two weeks to name a starting quarterback before they kick off their season against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on August 29 at 6 p.m. MT. Troy Franklin, Bucky Irving dominate in NFL Preseason Week 2 action
We are less than two weeks away from the start of the Oregon Ducks season against the Montana State Bobcats, but NFL action is already underway with Week 2 of the preseason, giving Oregon fans a chance to see some of their favorite Pro Ducks on the gridiron. Week 1 of the preseason gave us great looks at guys like Traeshon Holden, Bo Nix, Jamaree Caldwell, and Noah Sewell. In Week 2, some more famous Ducks got a chance to produce and get in on the action, with the likes of Troy Franklin, Bucky Irving, Tez Johnson, and Derrick Harmon dominating in their respective games. It also gave us our first look at quarterback Dillon Gabriel in a Cleveland Browns uniform, where he looked solid in his preseason debut. Whether it was an established player who received minimal reps or a young gun fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster, the former Ducks provided a lot to look at this weekend. Here's a glance at some of the standout performances. Troy Franklin — Denver Broncos Troy Franklin has been having an incredible training camp in Denver, and he showed that on Saturday night with four catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. It left head coach Sean Payton declaring that Franklin's breakout season is underway, and he has high expectations for the former Duck going into 2025. More: Sean Payton on Troy Franklin's breakout season with Denver Broncos: 'It's happening' Bucky Irving — Tampa Bay Buccaneers We saw a year ago what Bucky Irving could do as a running back in the NFL, but he showed everyone on Saturday night that he can be pretty great as a wide receiver too, splitting out wide and bringing down this impressive TD catch on a dime from Teddy Bridgewater. Derrick Harmon — Pittsburgh Steelers As a first-round pick, there are high expectations for Derrick Harmon going into his rookie season on a dominant Pittsburgh defensive line, and he's proving himself early on, especially wit this bull rush through the Tamba Bay offense, getting home for a sack. Tez Johnson — Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tez Johnson has received a lot of positive buzz from his teammates throughout training camp, and he showed how dynamic he can be on the field, even with the special teams unit, as a punt returner on Saturday against the Steelers. Johnson also finished the day with four catches for 24 yards in the game. Dillon Gabriel — Cleveland Browns Dillon Gabriel had some highs and a couple of lows in his preseason debut with the Browns. His first drive was nearly perfect, with a lot of strikes over the middle and conversions on third downs, leading to a touchdown. However, he later threw a pick-six on a play where his receivers didn't help him out, and was credited with a fumble. Ultimately, he looked solid in the game, but he still has competition to win the starting spot. Former Rams QB Bryce Perkins finally gets another shot in NFL after winning UFL MVP
Perkins was with the Rams for three years from 2020-2022 With Carolina QB Andy Dalton nursing an elbow injury, the Panthers are signing reigning UFL MVP QB Bryce Perkins. Bryce Perkins was last on an NFL roster in 2022 when he was with the Los Angeles Rams. Since then, he has spent two years in the UFL refining his game, and it finally has earned him another shot in the NFL. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Carolina Panthers are signing the former Rams quarterback and reigning UFL MVP. This is Perkins' first opportunity in the NFL since the 2022 season, when he was with the Rams. In the UFL this past season, Perkins was named league MVP after throwing for 1,342 yards and nine touchdowns in seven games, while also rushing for 269 yards and five touchdowns. A dynamic dual-threat quarterback who played at the University of Virginia, Perkins has always been an electric runner, but he's seemingly improved as a passer during his time in the UFL, too. He posted a league-best 108.7 passer rating in the UFL this season, while also leading the league with an average of 8.5 yards per pass attempt. With the Rams, Perkins started one regular-season game, which came against the Chiefs in 2022. In that loss, he threw for 161 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions; he rushed 19 times for 90 yards, as well.
