Okaloosa man's execution delayed 2 hours by late appeals
RAIFORD, Fla. (WMBB) – An Okaloosa County man was put to death at the Florida State Prison, but not as scheduled.
Over 26 years after he murdered his girlfriend and her three children, Jeffrey Hutchinson took his last breath.
He was executed by lethal injection at the Florida State Prison on Thursday evening. But Hutchinson's scheduled death was delayed by two hours while the United States Supreme Court considered several last-minute appeals.
After the last was rejected, prison officials carried out the execution at 8 p.m. Eastern time. He was pronounced dead at 8:14 p.m.
Several of the victim's family members witnessed Hutchinson's sentence being carried out.
'Not a day goes by that we don't think about the loved ones that were taken from us. This terrible act has devastated our family and their friends. My mother suffered from night terrors until the day that she passed away due to the crime Jeffrey Hutchison committed. The evidence in this case was overwhelming and conclusive of his guilt. It is our family's belief that justice was served today, although it doesn't end our pain,' Renee Flaherty's brother, Darran Johnson, said.
Okaloosa man convicted of quadruple murder set for execution
Hutchinson did not have any last words, only confessing to the murders one time when he called 911 right after he shot and killed his girlfriend and her three young children.
He was mumbling the lord's prayer to himself before the lethal injection began. He remained compliant on his final day.
'Inmate Hutchinson woke up at 4:30 a.m. he was provided his last meal and remained compliant. His last meal consisted of salmon, mahi mahi, asparagus, a baked potato, and iced tea,' Department of Corrections Communications Director Ted Veerman said.
Thursday morning, he was visited by a friend, his sister, and an in-law.
There were 15 witnesses and four media representatives who witnessed the execution.

3-year illegal drivers license scheme unveils public corruption in Bay County
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – 'Evidence suggests that hundreds, if not more than a thousand, fraudulent driver's licenses were issued as part of this scheme,' Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford said. Public corruption brought Attorney General James Uthmeier to Bay County on Thursday. Officials say two Bay County tax collectors' office employees were providing undocumented individuals with driver's licenses in return for compensation. The employees identified as Bancelie Velazco and Demetrius Smith allegedly skipped steps and proper testing, then issued the licenses in exchange for cash or a 'Cash App' transaction. Ford believes people from all over the state traveled here to buy the licenses, and that the illicit activity had been happening for around 3 years. However, Bay County Tax Collector Chuck Perdue says they only noticed the suspicious activity last month, after reviewing April's month-end reports. Florida Attorney General holds news conference in Bay County Perdue says he immediately contacted Ford's office. 'I was starting to review our month-end reports, and I was seeing where, you know, on average, of my 80 employees, an employee on average during the month, will do 20 to 25 road exams. I had one employee, Mr. Smith, who did 295 exams in one month. So those exams take about 20 minutes each. So, doing the math, there's not that many work hours in the week, right?' Tax Collector Chuck Perdue said. Sheriff Ford says the investigation has been ongoing for around a month, with the majority of headway being made on Wednesday. So far, there have been eight arrests, and officials have seized around $120,000 from the illicit proceedings. Some of the arrests were individuals caught with fraudulent licenses, and others were people acting as brokers. Officials cited the involvement of a Callaway business called 'Cubamax'. 'The investigation also allowed us to arrest five additional individuals who are acting as brokers, running local businesses that claim to assist with immigration paperwork but instead arranged illegal transactions and funneled aliens from as far away as Miami to obtain licenses fraudulently,' Ford added. Uthmeier and several others blamed the Biden administration for the illegal activity. 'I think today is yet another example of how the Biden border policy puts American families at risk. Here you've got hundreds of aliens that are cheating, that are breaking the law, that are buying driver's licenses without taking the test, getting on the roads, putting everybody in danger. So, you know, if there's any silver lining to come out of this terrible discovery, it's that law enforcement worked very well together. Continued to follow the breadcrumbs and ultimately uncovered, you know, pretty widespread and advanced operation,' Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said. Officials said this is just the start of this investigation. Perdue says it's unclear at this time if there will be any repercussions for individuals responsible for supervising the employees. Sheriff's officials and Homeland Security Investigations will be working with the Highway Patrol and other agencies to track down the fraudulent driver's licenses. Greeley PD: Parolee on run from Pueblo found dead in Greeley
(GREELEY, Colo.) — The Greeley Police Department reported that a parolee on the run from the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) Youth Halfway House in Pueblo ended up in Greeley on Monday, June 9, when the execution of a search warrant ended in his suicide. According to Greeley Police, around noon on Monday, officers responded to the 2100 block of 7th Avenue, near the intersection of Highways 85 and 34 in Greeley, to assist the Department of Corrections' Parole Fugitive division in tracking down a 26-year-old suspect reported to be on the run from Pueblo. Greeley PD reported that two weeks before, the man had been named as a suspect involved in a stabbing that occurred while he was in custody serving a sentence related to first-degree assault. At that time, the suspect left the CDOC facility in Pueblo. According to the police, Parole officers tracked the suspect to his father's house in Greeley and tried to contact him, but he ran inside. The other children and adults in the house exited and left him alone in the home. Greeley PD stated that around 1:40 p.m., a Reverse 911 text was sent out to the surrounding community advising people to stay in their homes. A search warrant was issued, and Greeley PD attempted to get the suspect to surrender. When they entered the home, they found the suspect in the basement, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to Greeley PD, the Reverse 911 was cancelled around 5:15 p.m. The name of the suspect will be released by the Weld County Coroner's Office after the family is notified. At 11:20 p.m., his iPhone sent an automatic crash detection alert to 911, indicating his car had hit a tree. The dispatcher reported hearing screaming in the background. When first responders arrived, the vehicle was empty. For three days, Fairfax County deployed detectives, officers, helicopters, drones, forensic teams, K-9 units, and search and rescue teams to locate Coleman.
