Watch as the AFL's best golfers go head-to-head in the inaugural Code Sports Classic
'I think you'd find there are a lot of people, especially other AFL players, that can do exactly what we're doing right now – which is hacking it around.'
The three-hole competition was held for the first time at Spring Valley Golf Club, starring Prior, Carlton youngster Ollie Hollands and Code Sports footy reporter Jon Ralph.
Hollands is one of the AFL's best golfers, slotting in at No.3 of Code Sports top 50 list, while Prior rounds out the top 10.
But while there were thrilling moments, like a converted eagle, that showed signs of a future golfing career, there were also others, like one player chipping the ball directly into his cart, that proved footy was the right choice.
'We didn't pay, but we're getting our money's worth for the amount of shots we're having,' the player said after hitting his cart.
'Can I go home?'
But not long after conceding the par 4 hole to Ralph, the footy star teed off on the par 5 with a stunning 270m drive.
He then followed it up with a gorgeous iron shot that landed the ball within 10 feet, and then he promptly nailed the putt to secure an eagle and send the competition to overtime.
Hollands and Prior are used to playing in front of 80,000 screaming fans at the MCG, but it was a different nerves-inducing experience at the course.
It was watching a six-foot putt by Ralph on the sudden-death hole, which would have seen him win the inaugural Code Sports Classic.

Adam Scott and Tiger Woods have been handed the keys to creating the best PGA Tour possible by new CEO
Adam Scott has been added to a 'future competition committee' to be chaired by Tiger Woods and tasked with building the 'best professional golf model' ever by new PGA Tour boss Brian Rolapp. But that model doesn't yet include any reunification with LIV as talks again stall, with players including individual LIV champion Jon Rahm and Ryder Cup star Bryson DeChambeau set to again ply their trade on the rival tour in 2026. Masters champion Scott, who missed the season-ending PGA Tour playoffs this year, has taken on a leadership role during the protracted standoff between the two tours that had come closer together this year. Scott, as chairman of the PGA Tour's Player Advisory Council, and Woods even met with US President Donald Trump at the White House in a bid to bring the parties to some sort of agreement to ensure the world's best players played together more often. At the Tour Championship, Rolapp, who was appointed in June, outlined his desire for that to happen without being able to give any update on talks with LIV, which has released a full schedule of events for 2026, including a return to Australia. LIV has also struck a deal to play in Adelaide until 2031 on a purpose-built course just outside the CBD, with that deal dependent on the future landscape. But Rolapp revealed one of his new endeavours, having started with a 'clean sheet of paper', was the formation of the new committee, which will feature Scott and Woods and aim for 'significant change' in the operation of the PGA Tour. 'We're going to focus on the evolution of our competitive model and the corresponding media products and sponsorship elements and model of the entire sport,' Rolapp said. 'The goal is not incremental change. The goal is significant change. 'Tiger Woods has agreed to serve as chairman. The PGA Tour is certainly fortunate to benefit from his experience and his time and his dedication. That will be important to this effort, and I'm personally grateful for Tiger for offering to take this on.' Scott will be joined on the committee by fellow players Patrick Cantlay, Camilo Villegas, Maverick McNealy and Keith Mitchell along with some business experts. 'The committee makeup was deliberate and thought through,' Rolapp said. 'Clearly, it's player led. The player input to this is extremely important. 'We're certainly focused on the future. We're excited about the future and excited about the opportunity ahead.' But Rolapp couldn't expand on where discussions with LIV sat in that future outlook. 'I think I'm going to focus on what I can control,' he said. 'I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour. I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that.'

Proteas spinner Subrayen reported for suspect action in Cairns ODI
Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect in his team's opening ODI win against Australia in Cairns putting his place in the remaining two matches in jeopardy. It's the third time the off-spinner has been reported after his action was first deemed suspect more than a decade ago in 2012. The 31-year-old, who was making his ODI debut for South Africa on Tuesday, took the key wicket of Australian opener Travis Head and finished with 1-46 in his 10 overs. But post-match, officials were concerned about the legality of his bowling action. Subrayen will now have to face an independent assessment of his action at an ICC-accredited testing facility within 14 days. But under ICC rules, he is allowed to continue to bowl until the results of the tests are confirmed. The South Africans have already lost star paceman Kagiso Rabada to injury with two more games to be played in Mackay on Friday and Sunday. Prenelan Subrayen celebrates taking Travis Head's wicket. Picture: Saeed Khan / AFP Subrayen made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo this year despite long-time scrutiny over his action. Tests showed his action was illegal as far back as 2012, but he was cleared to bowl again in January 2013 after retesting. He was them reported twice the following two years during matches before he was eventually cleared to resume bowling in March 2016. Australian spinner Adam Zampa also featured in the umpires' report after the match in Cairns. He was reprimanded for swearing over a stump microphone. Zampa loses a demerit point on his record and if he loses three more he would face a suspension. Originally published as South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been reported for a suspect action in the ODI series against Australia.

Western United lodges appeal in fight against its A-League licence being stripped
Western United has lodged its appeal against Football Australia's decision to strip the club of its A-League licence. Having asked for an extension, United had until 10am on Thursday to submit the appeal. The club announced on Wednesday night that the appeal had been lodged. 'As this is a regulatory process, the club will be making no further comment at this time,' a United statement said. FA, which stripped the financially embattled United of its A-League licence on August 8 for failing to meet the criteria required to compete in the national men's and women's competitions, is expected to give its verdict on the appeal next week. The club's financial woes include a multimillion-dollar tax bill reportedly owed by United chairman Jason Sourasis. Building ðŸ'°ðŸ'š — Western United FC (@wufcofficial) August 20, 2025 Players and staff received their monthly wages late in April, May and June and were only paid overdue superannuation payments earlier this month. In May, United announced that KAM Melbourne, a subsidiary of American company KAM Sports, would become the club's new majority investor. However, the Australian Professional Leagues is yet to receive KAM Melbourne's full ownership proposal – understood to be worth $100m when including the purchase of the club's parent company Western Melbourne Group – and therefore cannot approve it. United was also banned by FIFA from registering players due to a six-figure sum that was owed to the club's former striker and 2022 A-League title-winner Aleksandar Prijovic. The ban led to United this week releasing former Sydney FC striker Jaiden Kucharski, who had only joined the club last month.
