'Punjab ke zakhmon par namak'! Philip Salt smashes 50; fans congratulate RCB for IPL 2025 finals

Time of India3 days ago

Punjab Kings (PBKS) were bowled out for just 101 — a total that felt far too low, especially for Qualifier 1 — against an in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Still, some fans held on to the memory of PBKS defending 111 runs at the same venue against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), winning that game by 16 runs.
However, things were different this time. KKR had released Philip Salt ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, and he has since become a game-changer for RCB. Continuing his blazing form, Salt smashed 50 off just 23 balls in Qualifier 1, including 5 fours and 3 sixes, helping RCB win by 8 wickets in 10 overs (with 60 balls remaining).

With this RCB go straight into the final of the IPL 2025 while PBKS now wait for the winner of Gujarat Titans (GT) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) to get another shot to reach the final. The Bengaluru franchise have reached the IPL final for the fourth time, having previously made it in 2009, 2011, and 2016.
History also leans in their favour — since the current playoff format began in 2011, the Qualifier 1 winner has gone on to win the title in 11 of 14 seasons, including a dominant streak from 2018 to 2024

Is There Any Reserve Day For PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 Qualifier 2?

The start of the Indian Premier League's Qualifier 2 between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings on Sunday was delayed due to passing showers. The winner of this contest will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final here on Tuesday. Earlier, Punjab Kings won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat with their bowling lineup getting a much-needed boost in the form of Yuzvendra Chahal 's return. MI handed a debut to England's left-arm pacer Reece Topley. The match was supposed to start at 7:30 PM IST, but the covers were at the time of publishing this copy (9:25 PM IST). The main square was covered. There is no reserve day in place. The cut-off time for a 5-over game is 11:56 PM IST. There are no reserve days and if a match is not possible, Punjab Kings will enter the final on the basis of finishing at a better spot than Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 league stage. PBKS were table-toppers while MI were fourth. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is back for Punjab Kings as skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The winner of this clash will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final on Tuesday. Chahal last played for PBKS in their league stage clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 18, before a right wrist injury kept him on the sidelines, including in the side's crushing eight-wicket loss to RCB in the Qualifier 1 in New Chandigarh. He now comes into the Qualifier 2 clash in place of left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar. With PBKS bowling first, they have added pacer Vyshak Vijaykumar into the playing eleven in place of Prabhsimran Singh, who will now come in as the impact player during the chase. Iyer stated that the overcast and windy conditions played a part in him electing to bowl first. 'The wickets was also under covers yesterday. It's a fresh day, we've recovered pretty well, rejuvenated and our mindset is to go out there and win. Boys are in high spirits, everyone's thinking positive. The environment in the dressing room is top-notch at the moment, so I can't complain much,' he said. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya said he also wanted to bowl, while adding that left-arm pacer Reece Topley comes in for Richard Gleeson, who picked a niggle during their 20-run win over Gujarat Titans' in the Eliminator in New Chandigarh. 'Looks like a decent track, just need to bat well, assess the conditions early and I think we'll be okay. It (pitch) has gotten much flatter, the balls have stopped doing as much as it used to do. If you bowl well, fast bowlers tend to get some help.' 'At the same point of time, if you bat well, you can score a lot of runs. There are a lot of areas where we could have got better in the last game. Playing a tight crucial game, one day break, it's tough but we are into a rhythm and we know what we need to execute.' 'We came very early morning after the game, we needed some rest, most of the guys focused on recovery and being fresh for today. The intensity will be very important and we're looking forward to it,' he said. Listen to the latest songs, only on

RCB fans across the world gear up for historic night

As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare to take the field for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final on Tuesday, anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. From generous auto drivers offering free rides in Bengaluru, to passionate fans hosting screenings in Nepal, to supporters in Delhi planning celebrations, the RCB faithful are united in hope and belief that this could finally be their year, according to a release from RCB. Parshuram Shetty, an auto driver in Bengaluru, has been celebrating RCB in a unique way by offering free rides to passengers wearing the RCB jersey. Along with his friend Ajmal Hussain, he has completed numerous rides this season. "This is definitely our year and so we are very excited. I've been supporting RCB for as long as I can remember - matchdays are a big deal at home. I have three children and even their moods are tied to the team's performance," he said, according to a release from RCB. "The team is in form, and we're backing them all the way," he added. From across the border, 25-year-old Samagra Adhikari, who founded the RCB Fan Club Nepal , shares that the group will be represented at the final. Live Events "While I won't be able to travel for the match as we're hosting screenings in Nepal, a few of our members will be there in Ahmedabad, cheering the team on," he said. "Over 20 of us had travelled for the CSK game in Bengaluru and the atmosphere was incredible. What's beautiful is how other fan clubs, like RCB Fan Army and Namma Team RCB, have helped us grow. We may be in Nepal, but we feel part of something big," he noted. The RCB Nepal fan club currently boasts a strong following on social media. "The passion for RCB here is real and it's growing every day," he added. In Delhi, superfan, Abhimanyu Rao marked RCB's league-stage win over Chennai Super Kings earlier in the season by feeding 1,000 people. "We were originally planning for 500, but it turned into a celebration," he shared. "If we win the final, we're planning to double that number," he added. Allen Abhishek, who founded the RCB Fan Army back in 2009, will be in Bengaluru for the final. "While a huge number of us will be in Ahmedabad to cheer the team on, I wanted to stay in Bengaluru because it's going to be special here," he opined. "We've got our flags and banners ready, and we're planning a march through the city right after we win," he added. Among those making the trip to Ahmedabad for the final is Yashas MT, who has been supporting RCB since 2009. "I've been connected to the team since the days of Dravid and Kumble," he says. "I actually booked my tickets before we had even confirmed our place in the final, maybe I manifested it in some way," he joked. "We've been consistently reaching the playoffs in recent years. This will be the year," he noted.
