Haryana cabinet approves 1 pc concessional VAT rate on ATF
Chandigarh, Aug 1 (PTI) The Haryana cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to reduce the concessional rate of value-added tax (VAT) to 1 per cent from the existing 20 per cent on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) sold at all airports in the state.
The step will help in promoting regional air connectivity and allied aviation activities.
The revised notification aligns with the Ministry of Civil Aviation's UDAN scheme and the Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2017, an official statement said here after the cabinet meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
As per the latest amendment, the concessional VAT rate of 1 per cent will be applicable on ATF sold to all passenger flights, including RCS-UDAN scheme flights, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) activities, and air adventure services at all airports in Haryana.

Several parents opposed to the bill say this condition will stifle individual complaints and discourage families from raising genuine per the TOI report, they also objected to provisions that, according to them, allow schools to introduce ambiguous fee categories and validate charges previously deemed unauthorised. Protesters further claim that removing the requirement for regular financial audits reduces accountability and oversight.'What is particularly alarming is a clause that restricts parents from approaching civil courts over fee disputes. This provision, along with the overall weakening of the Delhi School Education Act rules, will leave families vulnerable to exploitation. Instead of safeguarding the interests of students and parents, the bill appears to favour private school lobbies,' TOI quoted one parent as saying. Education minister defends the draft Delhi's Education Minister Ashish Sood said the bill was introduced within four months of assuming office. 'Within four months of our tenure, we are on track to introduce this bill. I assure people that their concerns will be deliberated in Vidhan Sabha and addressed,' he said. Despite the minister's reassurance, several parents said they would gather outside the assembly today to protest. One of them said, 'This protest is about protecting our children's future and standing up for an accountable, equitable education system.'Supporters see promise in proposed measures Meanwhile, other parents believe the bill addresses several long-standing concerns. A parent association from a private school said the bill brings in 'a structured and transparent framework' to regulate school fees.'It proposes prior approval for fee increases, mandatory public disclosure of school financial records and penalties for violations. Speaking at the inauguration of SAP Labs India's new campus at Devanahalli, Siddaramaiah said the new campus is a testament to Karnataka's strengths, tech-savvy talent, world-class infrastructure, and progressive policies that make the state a "magnet for global innovation". "Karnataka contributes over 8 per cent to India's GDP and leads the nation in IT exports with a 35 per cent share. We are proud to account for over 40 per cent of India's electronics and R&D exports, hosting 500-plus global capability centres, 400-plus R&D labs, and 18,300-plus startups," he said. Bengaluru, the startup capital of India, is home to over 40 per cent of the nation's unicorns, he said, adding, "this vibrant ecosystem where industry, academia, and government collaborate seamlessly has made Karnataka the epicentre of India's innovation revolution". The state government is laying the foundation for balanced and decentralised growth across Bengaluru, he pointed out. Karnataka is deeply committed to fostering a pro-industry and pro-innovation environment, and its policies are paving the way for the next wave of global tech investments. "Devanahalli is fast emerging as a vibrant hub for technology and economic growth. Our government is committed to transforming Devanahalli into a major technology and innovation cluster with metro connectivity approved in the Karnataka Budget 2025 and suburban rail expected by 2029, " the CM said. Karnataka HC cracks whip, trade unions suspend strike till Aug 7
Bengaluru, Aug 5 (PTI) The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the transport strike despite its interim order and warned of contempt proceedings, following which the KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation announced suspension of the agitation till August 7, when the matter will be heard next. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice C M Joshi expressed strong displeasure over the strike being carried out despite the invocation of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and the court's direction not to proceed with the agitation. The bench warned that the continuation of the strike would not be tolerated and would initiate contempt proceedings against the union leaders. The court extended its earlier interim order restraining the strike by two more days and directed the unions to submit an affidavit on Wednesday confirming that the strike has been called off. KSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation president H V Anantha Subbarao told reporters in Bengaluru that the agitation had been suspended till August 7 and employees had been instructed to return to work with immediate effect. During the hearing, the Advocate General informed the court that the strike had caused significant hardship to the public. In response to a query from the bench regarding efforts at conciliation, details of past rounds of talks with the government were submitted. The court observed that if there are issues then they should be resolved through talks with the government. It also noted that resorting to a strike even after ESMA had been enforced was unlawful. The court also issued notices to the unions of all four state transport corporations. The counsel for the Joint Action Committee assured the court that the strike would not continue on Wednesday. The court made it clear that if the strike is resumed, the government is free to take appropriate legal action under ESMA.
