ISME Bangalore Signs LoU with NISM to Integrate SEBI-Certified Financial Courses into Curriculum

Hans Indiaa day ago
Bangalore The International School of Management Excellence (ISME), Bangalore, has signed a strategic Letter of Undertaking (LoU) with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), an educational initiative of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The partnership marks a significant step toward aligning academic learning with real-world industry requirements in India's fast-evolving financial sector.
Through this collaboration, students of ISME's undergraduate and postgraduate programs will gain access to NISM's industry-recognized certifications in subjects such as Equity Derivatives, Portfolio Management, Mutual Funds, Fixed Income Securities, and Investment Advisory. These certifications will be fully integrated into ISME's academic curriculum as credit-bearing courses or Value Added Programs, equipping students with practical skills and a competitive edge for careers in banking, financial services, and investment management.
Beyond certifications, NISM will provide ISME with comprehensive academic support including assessment tools. Faculty from ISME will also undergo regular Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) conducted by NISM to ensure high-quality instruction in specialized topics related to financial markets.
Dr. Nitin Garg, Founder & Director, ISME said: "Our collaboration with NISM goes beyond curriculum enrichment. It's about empowering students with industry-relevant skills from day one. This aligns with our mission to shape future-ready professionals in finance."
In a move that directly supports employability, NISM will also create a dedicated recruitment portal for ISME students who have earned NISM certifications. This structured placement-support mechanism is expected to significantly improve career opportunities for students in the financial sector.
To further democratize access to financial education, NISM will offer ISME students a 50% concession on all its e-learning programs. These include beginner to advanced-level courses in areas such as Financial Planning, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Equity Research, SME Listing Compliance, and Broking Operations, providing students the flexibility to specialize based on career interests.
The three-year LoU is expected to benefit over 300 students annually and may be extended upon mutual agreement. It reflects ISME's broader commitment to academic-industry partnerships, global learning models, and entrepreneurial education. As India continues to position itself as a global fintech and investment hub, such collaborations are crucial in preparing students to lead in the financial markets of tomorrow.

US treasury secy slams Indo-Russia oil trade, says profits benefits India's ‘richest families'

This comment comes only days after Donald Trump's top adviser, Peter Navarro, unleashed an anti-India tirade claiming its profits from Russian oil benefitted 'India's politically connected energy titans'. The same is 'unacceptable', Scott Bessent said. New Delhi: United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, while virtually absolving China, has accused India's 'richest families' of profiteering from Russian oil imports, in a thinly veiled swipe at Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, the most prominent private sector player in India's oil trade. 'India is just profiteering,' Scott Bessent further said in an interview with CNBC's Joe Kernen, charging India with making profits from Russian oil. 'They are reselling. They made $16 billion in excess profits. Some of the richest families in India. It is what I would call the Indian arbitrage—buying cheap Russian oil and reselling it as a product—that just sprung up during the war, which is unacceptable,' he added. Peter Navarro made a similar accusation earlier this week by labelling India 'a global clearinghouse for Russian crude'. Writing in the Financial Times, Navarro alleged that US trade dollars are indirectly funding Russia's war machine via India's refining sector. Peter Navarro's remarks appeared to go beyond general policy critique and seemed aimed squarely at a specific Indian corporate group. According to a Reuters report, India now imports over 1.75 million barrels per day of Russian oil—slightly up from the same period last year—with private refiners Reliance Industries and Nayara Energy accounting for nearly half of the volume. 'India exports more than a million barrels per day in refined petroleum products, equivalent to over half the volume of crude it imports from Russia. The proceeds flow to India's politically connected energy titans, and in turn, into Vladimir Putin's war chest,' Peter Navarro wrote. Navarro added, 'India's dependence on Russian crude undermines the global effort to isolate Moscow.' However, his assertion drew criticism for selective outrage, as China continues to import significantly more Russian oil than India, and Europe remains a major consumer of Russian gas, paying in hard currency. When asked whether China was also in the wrong, Scott Bessent said, 'If you go back and look now, I believe India had less than one percent of their oil from Russia pre-2022. Now it's up to 42 percent. So, this India arbitrage is a completely different thing.' Bessent hinted at potential trade consequences, saying the Trump administration plans to impose secondary tariffs on India for its purchases of sanctioned Russian oil. Comparing Russian oil imports by India and China, Scott Bessent remarked, 'China's import is suboptimal.' China's imports rose relatively modestly from 13 to 16 percent of its total portfolio, he noted. India pushes back India has firmly rejected accusations that its energy trade undermines global sanctions or supports Russia's war effort. Officials argue that national interest and energy security requirements drive the purchases in a volatile, globalised market. Comparing with 2024, government data shows India's April-July Russian oil imports down by 10 percent this year and its oil imports from the US up by 12 percent. Indian officials note that the surge in Russian crude began only after the implementation of the $60-per-barrel price cap announced at the G7 Summit, making such oil economically attractive for developing economies. India, the world's third-largest oil importer, maintains that its purchases comply with international law and serve domestic economic priorities. India's oil trade is under fire as the Trump administration seeks to revive stalled Russia-Ukraine peace talks. A symbolic US-Russia summit in Alaska earlier this month brought President Trump and President Vladimir Putin face-to-face for the first time in four years. 'Alaska was a show of force,' Scott Bessent said in the CNBC interview. 'It was like inviting your uncontrollable neighbour over and showing him your gun case.' Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be in the US for the trilateral talks, aimed at restarting the peace process. 'My strong belief is that there will be a bilateral meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky,' Scott Besent concluded. Big Move To Boost Mutual Fund Access, 1 Lakh Postmen To Be Trained

The Association of Mutual Funds of India (AMFI) has partnered with India Post to train one lakh postmen as mutual fund distributors. The aim is to strengthen last-mile access to investment products and improve financial literacy, especially in smaller towns and rural areas. The industry body is currently focusing on four states to ensure each district has at least 10 distributors by the end of 2025, The Hindu Business Line reported. Venkat Nagewar Chalasani, the Chief Executive of AMFI, said, "By the end of the year, we expect at least 10 distributors in each district of these states and at least 20 by next year." The AMFI is training college students and targeting 20,000 new distributors in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Meghalaya in the first year, said Mr Chalasani. It is also planning to build a pool of certified experts who can further train others. The distributors will undergo special training programmes and have to clear the National Institute of Securities Market (NISM) exam to become MF distributors. The program is focused on postmen who will be the first to be taught the basics of the scheme. Since mutual fund access is still very low in smaller towns and rural areas, the programme is especially aimed at such regions. Mr Chalasani said, "We want students to clear the phase one test to understand the basics. Then they can appear for NISM exams to become distributors and become an entrepreneur." The AMFI earlier partnered with the Department of Posts to resolve legacy issues around Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, particularly for individuals who did not have their Aadhaar numbers linked. The mutual fund sector sees about 30,000 new distributors each year, but net additions are closer to 10,000. Currently, the bottom 30 towns account for almost 45 per cent of mutual fund investments, while the top 30 cities account for 65 per cent of the total share.
