Odisha CM seeks amicable resolution of Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh
Majhi, in a high-level meeting held at the state secretariat Lok Seva Bhavan, emphasised the resolution of the ongoing Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh.
'The chief minister said that since the efforts being made to resolve the problem in the Central Water Commission are progressing slowly, it can be amicably resolved through negotiations between both states with the support of the central government," Majhi was quoted as saying in the statement issued by the CMO.
Stating that the Central Water Commission can provide technical support in the negotiations, Majhi said this will resolve the long-standing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh and enhance the relations between the two states.
On the sidelines of the All India State Water Resources Ministers' Conference held in Rajasthan in February and on the occasion of the World Water Day held in Bhubaneswar in March, the Mahanadi water dispute was discussed between Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bishnu Deo Sai and his Odisha counterpart Mohan Charan Majhi.
Both the chief ministers emphasised resolving the issue, it said.
Wednesday's meeting reported that discussions are underway between officials of the two states.
Apart from Majhi, the meeting was attended by Advocate General Patrambar Acharya, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department Anu Garg, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Saswata Mishra, and senior officers and engineers of the Water Resources Department.
The Mahanadi dispute was presently under the consideration of a tribunal. The Odisha government has alleged that Chhattisgarh has blocked the free flow of water in the Mahanadi River by constructing several barrages on the upstream. PTI AAM AAM ACD

Rs 697cr disbursed to over 34.85L farmers in state under PM-Kisan
Bhubaneswar: A total of Rs 697 crore was disbursed to over 34.85 lakh farmers in the state under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on Saturday. The state-level programme, held at ICAR-CIFA on the city's outskirts was attended by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi transferring Rs 20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country from Varanasi. Under the scheme, Rs 2,000 each was transferred directly to the bank accounts of farmers. Majhi said, "It is our govt's commitment to ensure the inclusion of all eligible beneficiaries under the scheme. No eligible farmer in the state should be left out," he said, adding that saturation drives are underway in all blocks. He emphasised the govt's pro-farmer approach, highlighting that over 50 lakh farmers are also receiving Rs 4,000 annually under the CM-Kisan scheme. Together with PM-Kisan, eligible farmers are receiving a total of Rs 10,000 per year, he added. Calling on farmers to diversify, Majhi asked them to practice fisheries and animal husbandry to boost income. "Your income will not just double but multiply many times," he said. Deputy CM K V Singh Deo said Odisha has received the 'Agriculture Today' award and reiterated the state's focus on doubling farmer incomes. He urged farmers to take up oilseed cultivation and adopt organic methods for better soil health and sustainable farming. The day was observed as 'PM-Kisan Diwas' across all districts, blocks and panchayats, with awareness campaigns held to educate farmers about eligibility criteria under the scheme. Tight security at CM, dy CMs residences
Bhubaneswar: Security was tightened near the residences of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, deputy chief ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida to prevent any law and order situation arising out of protests following the death of Puri burn victim. The high-profile quarters in the city saw heavy deployment of police personnel. Public movement was restricted in certain stretches to stop assembling of a large number of people. Police sealed the road from AG Square to Governor's House in the city. Security personnel were also deployed near the house of the burn victim in Puri district, anticipating violent protest.
