Jackky Bhagnani On Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Failure: 'We Mortgaged Properties To...'
Last Updated:
Once expected to be 2024's biggest blockbuster, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan turned into a financial disaster. Producer Jackky Bhagnani now reveals the harsh truth.
Once touted as the biggest spectacle of 2024, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan — starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff — ended up as one of the year's biggest flops. Now, producer Jackky Bhagnani has opened up about the emotional and financial toll the film's failure has taken on him and his family.
In a candid conversation with SCREEN, Jackky reflected on the painful aftermath of the film's box office crash. 'For me, it has been a huge learning. We invested a lot of money, and I realised that scale alone isn't enough. The content didn't resonate with the audience, and the public is always right. If they didn't connect with it, then I have to go back to the drawing board and understand why," he admitted.
Jackky also addressed the controversies and payment disputes that surfaced after the release, saying, 'Honestly, if the film had done well, none of this noise would've existed. We invested with faith, hoping the content would speak for itself. But tough times teach you that it's important to respect each other's money. I've learned that the hard way."
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and made on a massive budget of ₹350 crore, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan brought Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff together for the first time, with Prithviraj Sukumaran playing the antagonist and Alaya F and Manushi Chhillar in pivotal roles. Despite the star power and high-octane action, the film struggled to attract audiences beyond its opening weekend, eventually closing at a disappointing ₹111.49 crore worldwide.
The fallout didn't end at the box office. Allegations soon emerged from crew members claiming delayed payments from Pooja Entertainment, with reports even suggesting that the banner sold its seven-floor office in Mumbai to help clear debts reportedly amounting to ₹250 crore.
