Mary Earps announces shock retirement from England Lionesses
Mary Earps has announced her retirement from international football just 36 days before the start of England's Women's European Championship campaign.
'I have taken the difficult decision to retire internationally,' Earps said in a statement.
'It has been the greatest honour and privilege of my life, to wear this badge, represent my country and play alongside such an incredible group of players.
'I've spent a long time making this decision and it's not one I've made lightly. For me, ultimately this is the right time for me to step aside and give the younger generation an opportunity to thrive. Winning the Euros in 2022 was the best day of my life, and I'm rooting for the girls to do it again this summer.'
England manager, Sarina Wiegman, said she is 'disappointed' by Earps' decision. More Trending
'I had hoped that Mary would play an important role within the squad this summer, so of course I am disappointed,' said Wiegman.
'Mary has been clear on her reasons why she has made the decision and it is something we need to accept.
'Mary has made a huge contribution to not only the team, but the whole of English football. We will cherish those memories and of course give Mary the tributes she deserves after the summer but for now the focus needs to be on the upcoming Uefa Women's Nations League fixtures and the Euros.'

Man Utd told to sack Amorim for unlikely move - 'Not trying to sensationalise'
Ruben Amorim endured a very difficult first season at Manchester United with Arsenal icon Martin Keown suggesting a surprise option to replace the Portuguese coach at Old Trafford Manchester United have sensationally been told to sack Ruben Amorim for Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp. Amorim endured a woeful first season at Old Trafford since replacing Erik ten Hag. He led the club to 15th in the Premier League - their worst finish of the modern era - while they also missed out on a spot in the Champions League after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham. That rotten form has left Amorim clinging on to his job. And former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes he has the perfect replacement already lined up: Klopp. Explaining the controversial move on talkSPORT, Keown said: 'I'm still concerned that maybe this isn't the right manager for Manchester United. 'Just look at the number of games they've lost. It's going to be a very interesting start to next season for them but they could do a lot worse than go and get Jurgen Klopp to manage their football club. 'I'm not trying to sensationalise. I believe he could do an incredible job there and I believe they need somebody with more experience than the current manager.' Asked to elaborate, he added: 'Why not? He's done a rebuilding job before [at Liverpool].' Amorim still has two years left to run on his original deal, with the option of a further season. It now appears very unlikely that he will be moved on. While the prospect of him being sacked looks unlikely, the prospect of Klopp moving to Old Trafford looks closer to impossible. The German is currently serving as Red Bull 's Head of Global Soccer and has hinted that he may never return to the dugout. Meanwhile, his ties to United's bitter rivals Liverpool make a move even more unlikely. That is despite Klopp having held talks over a switch to Old Trafford in the past. He previously revealed he turned down a move ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson 's retirement. Klopp said: "We spoke. We spoke not a lot but, for me, it was a lot. It was a big honour, the whole talk, to be honest. But I could not leave Dortmund. "You are in April and you are in the middle of the planning for next season. You have this player and this player who are coming but then you are not there anymore? That doesn't work. Not in my life. "I didn't hear about a real offer [from United] but, if there was, I could not have done it. I first had to finish the job with Dortmund and then think about other things. Maybe that is not smart but that is my way. It was the same at Mainz."

What if... the season was all about the first 45 minutes?
As the dust settles on the 2024-25 Premier League season, we have been taking a look at some of the alternative ways the the table could have games are 90 minutes long. They have been for more than 150 what if they weren't? What if only the first 45 minutes mattered? Some teams like to lead from the front, come out the blocks flying and try and get the job done before that had been the case this season and it all came down to that first half showing, then it would not have been Liverpool lifting the trophy, but in fact Arsenal winning their first league title in over 20 20 wins, 13 draws and five defeats, the Gunners were the kings of the first half. Four points behind them were Manchester City - a team that has for so long been able to control games from start to finish, but during their difficult spell with injuries and results, this was something they seemed to the league really came down to this metric, Brentford fans would be planning for a Champions League adventure. While the Bees were fast starters this campaign, being able to back that up across the 90 minutes was their Achilles heel (ranking 14th in the second half). And what about this year's Premier League champions? Arsenal may have had the number when it came to first halves, but Liverpool well and truly led the way in the second... What if the season was all about the second 45 minutes? While some prefer to get their nose in front, others prefer a half-time reset or back themselves to get the job done later in the of those teams was Arne Slot's won 24 of their 38 second-halves, drew nine and lost just five. If it was this 45 minutes alone that counted, they would have had 81 points and - just like in the actual season - been runaway club that enjoyed success after half time was seventh in the first-half table, the Blues were often in a position where they needed to turn things around or dig out a result in the second 45 and, despite the young age of the team, managed 17 wins in second halves.A side deserving an honourable mention here is Crystal may have finished 12th in the 2024-25 league table after a underwhelming start, but when it came to getting a result in the second half, with 16 wins,12 draws and 10 defeats, they were up there alongside some of the best in the league.*Table data from Football365

Luis Diaz sends Barcelona message after partner's Liverpool 'farewell' post
Liverpool star Luis Diaz has been persistently linked with a transfer to Barcelona and the Colombia international is said, through his agent, to have told the Reds he wants an exit Luis Diaz has informed Liverpool he wants to make the move to Barcelona this summer, according to reports in Spain. The Reds star is said to have come to an agreement with the Catalan giants and is now looking to facilitate the transfer. Diaz was a key player for Arne Slot in 2024/25 and scored 17 times across 50 appearances and provided a versatile cog on the left of the attack and through the middle, often to great effect. The Colombian international has two years remaining on his contract at Liverpool but has been persistently linked away from the club. Mundo Deportivo claim that the 28-year-old has poured cold water on any attempt to renew his deal and his agent is said to be attempting to force an Anfield exit to Barcelona. Diaz has also drawn interest from the Saudi Pro League. Al Nassr also want to sign Diaz but the Liverpool ace seemingly only has eyes for Barca. And some believe that Diaz's partner is already saying her goodbyes. Gera Ponce took to Instagram to share images of the couple and their young children celebrating the Premier League title win in front of the Kop, and from last Monday's trophy parade in the city. She delivered a poignant message expressing her gratitude. "To the incredible Liverpool fans," she wrote. "From the first day we arrived, we felt first hand what it means to be a part of this club. "We knew the slogan was 'You'll Never Walk Alone', but to hear them sing it with so much passion, support us every moment and show such unconditional love... confirmed to us that here you never walk alone. "This fan doesn't just support, it feels. And what you have made my boyfriend and our entire family feel is something we carry in our souls. "Thank you for so much love, for so much dedication and for making us feel at home. Being a part of this fan is a privilege. There's no doubt: they're the best in the world. This is a real bond, deep and strong, that reaffirms that we'll never walk alone." Some patience may be required however. Barcelona sporting director Deco has suggested the club's priorities are first on players already at their disposal - though he has admitted to interest in Diaz and Marcus Rashford. "We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come," the former midfielder told BBC Sport. "Of course, these two players, like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. "But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players. "When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. So this is important. The image of the club is still good. We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come."
