Man Utd told to sack Amorim for unlikely move - 'Not trying to sensationalise'

Manchester United have sensationally been told to sack Ruben Amorim for Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp. Amorim endured a woeful first season at Old Trafford since replacing Erik ten Hag.
He led the club to 15th in the Premier League - their worst finish of the modern era - while they also missed out on a spot in the Champions League after losing the Europa League final against Tottenham. That rotten form has left Amorim clinging on to his job.
And former Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes he has the perfect replacement already lined up: Klopp. Explaining the controversial move on talkSPORT, Keown said: 'I'm still concerned that maybe this isn't the right manager for Manchester United.
'Just look at the number of games they've lost. It's going to be a very interesting start to next season for them but they could do a lot worse than go and get Jurgen Klopp to manage their football club.
'I'm not trying to sensationalise. I believe he could do an incredible job there and I believe they need somebody with more experience than the current manager.'
Asked to elaborate, he added: 'Why not? He's done a rebuilding job before [at Liverpool].' Amorim still has two years left to run on his original deal, with the option of a further season. It now appears very unlikely that he will be moved on.
While the prospect of him being sacked looks unlikely, the prospect of Klopp moving to Old Trafford looks closer to impossible. The German is currently serving as Red Bull 's Head of Global Soccer and has hinted that he may never return to the dugout.
Meanwhile, his ties to United's bitter rivals Liverpool make a move even more unlikely. That is despite Klopp having held talks over a switch to Old Trafford in the past.
He previously revealed he turned down a move ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson 's retirement. Klopp said: "We spoke. We spoke not a lot but, for me, it was a lot. It was a big honour, the whole talk, to be honest. But I could not leave Dortmund.
"You are in April and you are in the middle of the planning for next season. You have this player and this player who are coming but then you are not there anymore? That doesn't work. Not in my life.
"I didn't hear about a real offer [from United] but, if there was, I could not have done it. I first had to finish the job with Dortmund and then think about other things. Maybe that is not smart but that is my way. It was the same at Mainz."

The Argentine defender is currently recovering from a long-term ACL injury and is hoping to return by September. Martinez managed 20 starts in the Premier League, scoring twice, but couldn't stop United's slide down the table. He is now said to be of interest to Serie A side Napoli, who have just won the Serie A under Antonio Conte. Napoli would be able to offer Martinez Champions League football this season, but according to the Daily Mail the 27-year-old is not interested in the move. The report claims Martinez is "determined" to stay and succeed at Old Trafford, even if he is handed more opportunities to play in Europe's elite competition this summer. It says Napoli had been exploring opportunities to find bargain deals and were hoping to take advantage of United's willingness to sell players. But Martinez is seen as a reliable senior member of Amorim's dressing room and the club are hoping he can help lead a revival under the Portuguese boss this season. Gyokeres drops hint on future Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Manchester United ever since Amorim arrived at Old Trafford after his incredible goalscoring exploits for Sporting Lisbon. There is no doubt that Gyokeres would dramatically change the club's fortunes after he smashed in 53 goals in all competitions, the highest total of any striker in Europe's top leagues. His performances have led to a string of clubs competing for his signature, with Arsenal and United said to be the leading contenders. However, the Red Devils may have hurt their chances of signing the player after failing to qualify for the Champions League - or any European competition whatsoever - handing the advantage to Arsenal. In any case, Gyokeres appears to have handed any interested party a blow by admitting he was "at home" in Lisbon. The former Coventry striker told Vogue Scandinavia, via A Bola: "In Swedish culture, people work hard during the week and if they want to do something, they do it on the weekend," Gyokeres revealed to Vogue Scandinavia via Portuguese outlet A Bola. "Here, people also make the most of the weekdays. They come over with friends on Monday or any other day of the week, have dinner and a glass of wine. "In Sweden, that's rare. Paul Scholes slammed for 'worst bit of punditry ever' after 'outrageous' comment
Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has enjoyed a superb season for the Blues as he helped them finish in the top four - but pundit Paul Scholes was not impressed with his performances Paul Scholes has been slammed by fans for "one of the worst bits of punditry ever" after claiming Chelsea star Moises Caicedo"didn't contribute" to their season. The midfielder was an ever-present for Enzo Maresca 's side in the Premier League, playing all 38 games and impressing many with his battling performances. Caicedo managed the most passes, most passes completed, most touches, most possessions won and most tackles of any midfielder in the top flight and was a big part of Chelsea qualifying for the Champions League. But Scholes left fans baffled by suggesting Caicedo "didn't create or control a lot of games" while also questioning his "quality". Speaking on the Overlap Fan Debate, he said: "I think a lot of people talk about Caicedo. 'He's played 38 games'. Brilliant, what an achievement. "But was there much quality? Did he create a lot? Did he control a lot of games for Chelsea? I don't remember that. I think there's an era now, with midfielders especially, where you can go through seasons and games without really contributing." Scholes' comments have been blasted by fans on social media, with one calling his remarks "absolutely outrageous". "This is genuinely one of the worst bits of punditry I've ever seen," the post read. "And if Paul Scholes has said this he quite simply doesn't watch much football. Saying Caicedo is 'not contributing much' is absolutely outrageous." Another took aim at his "shocking" view and claimed it showed he hadn't watched much of Chelsea play this season. "Scholes' point about midfielders as a whole is valid but his take on Caicedo specifically here is shocking," the fan wrote. "He's been class this season. Scholes should know better on Caicedo this season. I don't think he's watched enough Chelsea, simple as that." "Paul Scholes is the worst pundit by a mile," another said. "You can't watch Chelsea's games, and do even a 30-second stat check, and think Moises Caicedo that was a star for Brighton, and now Chelsea doesn't "contribute a lot". Caicedo joined Chelsea for a British club record deal of £115million from Brighton in 2023 and a solid first season as the club finished sixth under Mauricio Pochettino - but was much more improved after working with Maresca in 2024-25. He started his career Independiente del Valle in his native Ecuador before sealing a move to the Seagulls in 2021. Caicedo only played one full season at the Amex before Chelsea decided to splash the cash on him. Caicedo rounded off his superb season by scoring for Chelsea in their UEFA Conference League final win over Real Betis, netting the final goal in stoppage time of their 4-1 triumph.
