Is BMW's Valentino Rossi M4 CS Really a $155,000 Experience?

Yahoo25-02-2025

Valentino Rossi is a man of many talents, not just spectacular motorcycle heroics. It's likely a lesser-known feat than his numrous MotoGP championships, but the racer has taken a liking to four-wheeled motorsport in the past few years, at the helm of BMW's M3 GT3 racer. Taking on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, FIA WEC, and the GT World Challenge Europe series, Rossi isn't letting go of his place in motorsport history — and BMW is honoring that with a road-going M4 dedicated to the Italian madman.
Known as the 2025 BMW M4 CS Edition VR46, the special edition model is based on the current-generation G82 M4, but with a birthday celebration attached. Rossi's 46th birthday was February 16, and since 46 was also to the racing number that he wore during his tenure in MotoGP, BMW wanted to honor their motorsport ambassador and development driver with an exclusive sport coupe.
"There is no other brand that has motorsport so deeply rooted in its DNA as BMW M. I am proud to be a BMW M works driver and to share this passion. The fact that there is now a special VR46 edition, in which I was involved from the very beginning of the design process, makes me proud," Valentino Rossi said in a statement. "When I see the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 out on the road or on the racetrack later, it will be very cool.'
The majority of the changes to the M4 CS are visual. Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic and Marina Bay Blue Metallic are model-exclusive colors, with Sao Paulo Yellow trim accents on the grille and wheels. Inside, the Black/Night Blue Merino leather M Carbon bucket seats are also trimmed in the Brazilian hue, augmented by the VR46 logo plastered on the headrests and door sills. A carbon fiber center console, lightweight carbon roof, and Rossi signature seal the deal.
The twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six is matched with the M3 CS, pumping out 543 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. That power figure is attributable to a maximum 30.5 psi of boost pressure, and pushes the AWD M4 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. 124 mph is achievable in 11.1 seconds, while the M4 hits Vmax at 188 mph. Electronically adaptive dampers, model-specific wheel camber, spring rates, and tunable anti-roll bars make up the dynamic package included in the VR46.
A limited number of these sports coupes will be produced, with BMW saying a total of 92 units will roll off the line in Dingolfing. Allocations will be split down the middle for colors, with 46 units in Frozen Tanzanite Blue and 46 in Marina Bay Blue.
The sticker price for this exclusive M4 is worth a drum roll, as it shoots well above the six-figure mark at... $155,000. That's about $25,000 more expensive than the regular M4 CS, and $75,000 more than the base model M4.
All of this cost might be well worth it for European buyers, however, as a trip to Italy will be included in the cost of entry. As a report from Top Gear reveals, European buyers will travel to Tavullia, Rossi's hometown on the eastern coast, where they will spend the day at the racer's home, and a barbecue will allegedly ensue. On the second day, the group will head over to Misano World Circuit to test drive the whole BMW M lineup.
To confirm this wasn't an option for domestic buyers, we reached out to BMW USA to get some clarity on the matter. "At this time, this is a European-customer-only experience, but we are exploring options for our US clients. We will share more information when it is available," a BMW spokesperson told Road & Track.

Report: Most 2026 BMW Models Will Receive a Price Hike on July 1

BMW will raise prices on many of its 2026 models starting on July 1, according to a report from CarsDirect. The increase will amount to about 2 percent of the existing MSRP, with the price hike ranging from $1100 to $2500. Several models will escape the price bump, including the 2026 iX SUV and 2026 M2 coupe. The vast majority of BMW models will likely get more expensive starting next month. As reported by CarsDirect, a bulletin was sent to BMW dealerships last week stating that the MSRP of most 2026 BMW models will go up by 1.9 percent beginning on July 1, 2025. The price increases will reportedly not affect 2025 BMW inventory. BMW has so far released pricing for many, but not all, of its 2026 model year lineup, with pricing for models such as the 7-series, X1, and 2-series not yet available. The nearly 2 percent price increase also won't affect every model in BMW's lineup. The main exceptions are its 2026-model-year EVs, the i5 and the iX. (Pricing for the 2026 i4 and i7 has not been published.) The Alpina XB7, 2026 2-series Gran Coupe, and 2026 M2 are also reportedly unaffected. BMW On the top end, the price hikes amount to $2500 for models such as the X5 M, which rises from $127,200 to $129,700, according to CarsDirect. The lowest increases are for the 4-series Coupe and Z4 roadster, which each see a bump of $1100. These figures exclude the destination fee, which Car and Driver reports as part of the price, and it's unclear if the freight charge will change for any BMW models when the calendar turns to July. CarsDirect says the bulletin doesn't blame the import tariffs implemented by the U.S. government for the price hikes, instead stating that the rises are "in line with past pricing communications, and account for inflation and enhancements to standard equipment where applicable." Slight increases in the MSRP are common for new model years, but we wouldn't be surprised if the tariffs are also playing a factor. A previous report from Automotive News stated that BMW wouldn't raise prices on imported models until the end of June. We've reached out to BMW for comment regarding these reported price increases and will update the story if we hear back. NBA's talks about new league in Europe are continuing, though the process remains in early stages

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The NBA's talks with FIBA and other entities about the process of adding a new league in Europe are continuing, Commissioner Adam Silver said, though he noted that it may take at least a couple more years to turn the ideas into reality. Silver spoke at a league event to unveil a refurbished Boys & Girls Club in Oklahoma City on Friday — an off day for the NBA Finals — and said it's difficult to put a specific timeline on the Europe plans. 'I will say it's measured in years, not months,' Silver said. 'So, we're at least a couple years away from launching. It would be an enormous undertaking. And while we want to move forward at a deliberate pace, we also want to make sure that we're consulting with all the appropriate stakeholders, meaning the existing league, its teams, European players, media companies, marketing partners. There's a lot of work to be done.' Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis announced in March that the league and the game's governing body are finally taking long-awaited steps to form a new league, with an initial target of 16 teams. It had been talked about for years, and decades even on some levels. And since the NBA and FIBA went public with their idea to move forward, talks have gotten more constructive, Silver said. Silver said the NBA has been talking directly with the EuroLeague and with some member clubs about a partnership. It's his preference that the NBA work with the existing league on some level, though it's still too early to say exactly what that means. 'Either way, we continue to feel there are an enormous number of underserved basketball fans in Europe and that there's a strong opportunity to have another league styled after the NBA,' Silver said. About one in every six current NBA players hails from Europe, including Denver's Nikola Jokic (Serbia) and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) — who have combined for five of the last seven MVP awards — along with the Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic (Slovenia) and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama (France). The NBA's board of governors will talk more about next steps with the European plans in July at their scheduled meeting in Las Vegas, Silver said. It's possible that the European venture could be unveiled in some way — or possibly start — around the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, just given how much attention will be on international basketball at that time. 'That might be a good launching pad for an announcement around a new competition,' Silver said. Some of the cities that are expected to have interest in being part of the new venture include London, Manchester, Rome and Munich. There will be others, of course. 'We haven't had direct conversations yet,' Silver said. 'But there have been several organizations that have come forward and said they would be interested and potential owners in operating in those major markets in Europe.' ___ AP NBA:
