OutSystems surpasses EUR €500m & appoints new CEO Woodson Martin

Techday NZ21-05-2025

OutSystems has announced it has surpassed EUR €500 million in revenue and named Woodson Martin as Chief Executive Officer.
The company, which focuses on application development and AI-powered software solutions, reported that it now works with more than 2,000 customers worldwide and partners with more than 500 organisations.
Woodson Martin will take over as CEO from founder Paulo Rosado, who led OutSystems for more than two decades. Rosado will remain involved as Chairman of the Board and strategic advisor in order to support the leadership transition.
Paulo Rosado reflected on the company's journey and the significance of the revenue milestone, stating: "We started this company to enable organizations to support their unique processes and innovations with custom digital solutions that they could build and evolve fast and reliably. The journey from a scrappy startup in a garage in Portugal to crossing €500m in revenue has been full of magic."
Rosado continued, "I am immensely proud of the team, partners and the amazing customers that have trusted us to run their business critical systems on the OutSystems platform. Our disruptive vision has become widespread and now is the time to transition the helm of the company to Woodson. His deep experience in scaling global enterprise software companies, customer-centric vision, and commitment to building best-in-class teams and culture make him the ideal leader to take OutSystems to even greater heights. I look forward to supporting him and the company in this exciting next chapter."
Woodson Martin brings experience from leadership positions at technology companies including Salesforce and Business Objects, which was acquired by SAP. Over an 18-year period at Salesforce, Martin held senior roles in different parts of the business. He most recently served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Salesforce AppExchange, where he oversaw the expansion of its ecosystem to 10 million installations and 7,500 applications.
On joining OutSystems, Martin commented: "Now is the moment to build on OutSystems market strength as an application development platform, to extend our leadership in enterprise adoption of agentic systems. We will power the next generation of apps and agents built and managed through AI, delivered on a proven platform that thousands of customers trust. I am honored to be joining the company at such a pivotal time and passionate about the opportunity in front of us. Paulo and team have built a strong foundation and I can't wait to get to work with our customers and partners to deliver unparalleled business value through apps, agents and automation."
Recently, the company released Mentor, a digital worker designed for AI-powered application generation and to automate the full software development lifecycle. In the initial quarter since this launch, OutSystems Developer Cloud customers used Mentor to create over 2,500 applications, each generated in an average of three minutes.
OutSystems has also introduced an AI Agent Builder tool that integrates AI agents into applications, offering support throughout the software development lifecycle.
Martin outlined his perspective on future trends in enterprise software, saying: "The future of enterprise software is anchored in agentic AI – a future where custom applications and agents are delivered and managed on an AI-powered software development life cycle platform. Today's digital transformation is markedly different from how it looked even last year. Companies continue to use SaaS applications, but now extend, connect, and orchestrate their apps with custom AI agents that can solve unique business needs and adapt rapidly as those needs change. The digital systems of tomorrow are very similar to what customers are building on OutSystems today."
OutSystems reported that its platform is being utilised to help organisations address key strategic initiatives, delivering software more efficiently and reducing technical debt by simplifying and unifying the development process. The company stated that its customer base spans 75 countries and more than 21 industry sectors.

Free Speech Union Welcomes NZME Board Refresh, A Hopeful Sign For Media Balance

Press Release – Free Speech Union This change promises a return to more factual reporting if the Board can restore the traditional journalistic ethics of the fourth estate. The announcement of NZME's board refresh signals hope for a return to more balanced reporting of news, which is an essential component of a healthy democracy. The Free Speech Union was pleased to play an advocacy role in this, says Nick Hanne of the Free Speech Union. 'Last year, the Free Speech Union urged supporters concerned about free and open discourse to get enough NZME shares to gain voting rights. FSU CEO Jonathan Ayling encouraged experienced people to put themselves forward for NZME board positions. 'The Free Speech Union has repeatedly called on NZME to stop censoring those views which appear to be offensive to certain staff and their stifling need to be 'politically correct'. The FSU also arranged meetings with the Managing Director and the Senior Editor, urging a restoration of the fundamental balance needed for the NZ Herald to stay a newspaper of record. 'We reminded them of how the Commerce Commission turned down their merger with Stuff, because the loss of media pluralism would be so damaging to democracy. We welcome the appointments of Steven Joyce and Jim Grenon on the NZME board and believe they'll play a crucial role in fixing this. 'Mr Grenon has weathered a lot of unjust criticism in pursuing this 'audacious' outcome. But his principled determination to defend broad viewpoint representation will help reestablish the centrality of free speech in our democracy. 'The media plays a crucial role in Kiwis' ability to seek, receive, and impart information, so it's essential that they platform multiple viewpoints on issues of public interest. This change promises a return to more factual reporting if the Board can restore the traditional journalistic ethics of the fourth estate. 'Kiwis deserve news which offers coverage rather than censorship.'

Canva leverages Snowflake to scale B2B growth & personalisation

Canva is using Snowflake AI Data Cloud to drive the expansion of its business-to-business operations as it continues its global growth and development. Canva, a platform known for its wide reach in visual communication, is leveraging Snowflake's technology to deliver new features more rapidly, optimise its marketing and sales functions, and customise user experiences. This partnership supports Canva's drive to scale internationally, enabling the company to reach new markets and audiences. The company has grown from a start-up to a business with over 230 million monthly active users and an annualised revenue exceeding USD $3 billion. Canva's enterprise customer base now includes several major corporations, such as Salesforce, HP Inc, and Expedia. The company has consistently relied on Snowflake's scalable platform to process increasing volumes of data and translate user insights into the development of new products. Moe Kiss, Director of Data Science at Canva, commented on the partnership: "As our user base expanded, so did the complexity and volume of data. Snowflake has scaled with us throughout our hypergrowth, helping us make sense of increasing data volumes while keeping our systems efficient. Having a reliable data foundation has been crucial for us to understand the needs of our users and to make informed product decisions as we continue to innovate across our visual communication platform." Erin Foxworthy, Industry Principal, Marketing and Advertising at Snowflake, also highlighted Canva's data strategy: "Canva exemplifies how data can drive extraordinary business growth. By putting user insights at the centre of their decision-making process, they've created a platform that delights hundreds of millions while building a thriving enterprise business. We're proud that Snowflake has been the data foundation supporting their remarkable data and AI journey." Canva utilises Snowflake in several ways to support its enterprise expansion. The company has optimised its sales and marketing efforts, enhancing areas such as lead routing, scoring, and data enrichment. These improvements have been central to Canva's shift from an individual-focused platform to one serving wider enterprise needs, particularly through its Canva Enterprise offering. Ongoing innovation at Canva has also been underpinned by Snowflake's capabilities. The data platform assists Canva in validating development at scale and accelerating the release of new features, such as Canva Sheets, which is described as a visual-first spreadsheet. Information from various sources, including Google Analytics, is handled through Snowflake to offer insights into user behaviour and preferences, supporting the development process. Personalisation is another area in which Canva is using Snowflake. By creating a unified view of user data, Canva can better recognise individual user preferences. This understanding has enabled the introduction of personalisation functionalities, such as AI-driven design recommendations that suggest colours, fonts, and layouts tailored to each user's history and choices. Marketing operations have also seen changes, as Snowflake allows Canva to predict customer lifetime value and improve allocation of marketing expenditure. With access to analytical capabilities, the marketing team can measure campaign effectiveness and distribute resources more effectively across different regions. The company is further enhancing customer segmentation by enriching user data through AI and integrating tools such as OpenAI. This provides more detailed segmentation, enabling Canva to offer more relevant and tailored experiences for its enterprise customers. Canva is currently evaluating Snowflake's Cortex Analyst and other advanced technologies, with the intention of further strengthening its data infrastructure. These tools are set to provide deeper insights, which Canva expects will support the pace of product development and enhance the quality of customer experience. Future plans between Snowflake and Canva include exploration of closer technical integration to allow users to convert Snowflake data into visual content within Canva. The companies indicated that this would further facilitate data-driven storytelling for customers.
