'Preferred it to kamikaze past two years' - fans on Super Cup defeat
We asked for your views on Tottenham's Super Cup defeat to Paris St-Germain on penalties, after a 2-2 draw on are some of your comments:Mark: Just when you thought the Spursy tag was behind us. Tactically ,Thomas Frank got this spot on, but seeing out games is something we must improve. There are lots of positives though. It may not be pretty all the time but I prefer it to the kamikaze style of the last two seasons. If we can just get a couple of more new faces through the door, there is reason to be optimistic for the season Nothing to worry about - it's a glorified friendly. We ran out of legs against the best team in Europe. But still a huge improvement on last season. Onward!John: I have waited a long time to see a Spurs team show this type of gutsy defensive performance with control for the most part. We drew the match against probably the best collection of skilled players on the planet. Exhausted after a pre-season of travel, we certainly have nothing to fear from the season ahead. Our fans will have to realise that we will not be playing classy football all the time, but give me a squad of professional players fighting for the cause Encouraged by the solid performance, team balance and Frank's engagement throughout. The performance was more important than the result. Shows promise for the season. If only the game was 10 minutes shorter!Jim: The difference between the squads was the subtitutes. Spurs brought on Dominic Solanke, who was injured in pre-season to get some minutes, and two youngsters in Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. PSG brought on two goalscorers. More investment needed at Spurs. Being better for 75-80 minutes doesn't win I guess we'll always be 'Spursy'.

Jack Wilshere snubs Arsenal return after being approached by Gunners over new role
Jack Wilshere has been taking his first steps into management since hanging up his boots in 2022 but the former midfielder has turned down the chance to return to former club Arsenal Jack Wilshere has REJECTED the chance to make a second emotional return to Arsenal as he plots his first steps into management. The former midfielder has embarked on a coaching career since officially retiring from football in 2022. After hanging up his boots following a spell with Danish side AGF, Wilshere returned to North London as the head coach of Arsenal's under-18 side. He held that role for over two years before being appointed as a first team coach at Championship side Norwich City. Since then, the now 33-year-old has taken the reins at Carrow Road on an interim basis following the sacking of Johannes Hoff Thorup - a spell that lasted a couple of games. And it now appears that Wilshere is keen to find another role in the dugout. According to BBC Sport, he was approached by former club Arsenal regarding their vacant under-21s head coach role, where he would lead the side and also oversee the club's wider development strategy. The Gunners are currently on the lookout for a replacement for Mehmet Ali. But Wilshere has since informed Arsenal that he no longer wants to be considered due to his desire to find a position within first-team coaching. Speaking in an interview with The Athletic earlier this year, he said: 'My ambition is to be a head coach. 'I didn't want to take a step until I was ready to impact at this level and it's taken two-and-a-half years. I can still improve and I'm still hungry to get better. But I feel like I'm ready.' Wilshere was reportedly interviewed by Plymouth Argyle this summer, only for the League One side to appoint Tom Cleverley instead. Wilshere is a product of the Arsenal academy and he went on to make just under 200 appearances for the Gunners. But injuries hampered his career at the Emirates and he went on to leave the club for West Ham United and then Bournemouth. And in 2022, he returned to North London in a coaching capacity and was key in the development of talents such as Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly. Speaking about his exit from Arsenal, he said: 'I had a decision to make whether I was going to hold on at Arsenal to try to get something as a head coach or whether to get into a first-team environment and watch someone else do it. I'm glad that I've done that. I'm in a good environment where I've got a head coach who sees the game similarly. 'I'm enjoying watching how he delivers to the players, how he sets up the team, how he sets up a week. These things that you're involved in as a player; it's completely different when you're on the other side and you're the guy who's leading it. My ambition is to be a head coach. I don't know when, but hopefully one day.'

Eze? Savinho? Frank reveals Spurs transfer plan after UEFA Super Cup collapse
Thomas Frank confirmed Tottenham were still 'working very hard' to strengthen in the transfer market after his side surrendered a two-goal lead to lose to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final. The Dane appeared on course to steer Spurs to a famous victory in his first competitive game in charge, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero scoring either side of half time in Udine. But PSG, the Champions League holders, mounted a spirited second-half fightback to force penalties as Lee Kang-in's arrowed strike reduced the deficit before Goncalo Ramos headed home deep into stoppage time to level. Vitinha failed with PSG's opening effort from the spot, but Lucas Chevalier denied Van de Ven before Mathys Tel struck wide from 12 yards to put the Ligue 1 champions within touching distance of a fifth trophy for the year. Nuno Mendes looked confident and clear-headed as he stepped up to take his spot-kick and Guglielmo Vicario hardly stood a chance as the Portuguese almost burst the back of the net to cue rapturous scenes among PSG's travelling support. Despite PSG enjoying 74 per cent of possession across the contest at the Bluenergy Stadium, it was an otherwise encouraging night for Tottenham, especially given the club's less-than-ideal preparation during what has been a summer of upheaval. Romero was announced as Spurs' new captain just hours before kick-off in Italy and deals have been struck for Mohammed Kudus, Tel, Kevin Danso, Luka Vuskovic, Kota Takai and Joao Palhinha across what has been an active transfer window. But with talks reportedly ongoing for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Manchester City's Savinho and, Frank told TNT Sports: 'We would like to strengthen the squad, no doubt about that. 'We do work very hard to see if we can do that. 'In general, I'm very happy with the squad, but of course, in every window, you'd like to see if you can make the squad stronger before the window closes. That's what we're working hard on.' Luis Enrique conceded that Tottenham probably 'deserved' to win after his PSG side eventually prevailed on penalties – and Frank was 'proud' of his players' overall performance. 'We played a very good game against one of – maybe the best – teams in the world,' the Spurs head coach added. 'I think we had them exactly where we wanted them for 80-something minutes, until the 2-1 goal, which shifted momentum. 'There are so many positives. I'm so proud of the team, the players, the club, the fans. It's a lot to be happy with. It's a coin flip when it goes to a penalty shootout.' According to Frank, his side's first-half display was 'almost perfect' in every aspect. 'We showed that we can be adaptable and pragmatic. We needed to do that against a team like PSG,' he continued. More Trending 'The way we wanted to defend – both high pressure and low defending – was exceptionally good. The first half was top, almost perfect.' The former Brentford boss felt his squad had come on leaps and bounds with their set-piece work since he first took over the reins from Ange Postecoglou in June. 'The set pieces were also very good and very dangerous,' he went on. 'It's key. For any team it should be a weapon. We definitely will focus on that, because it's a key area.'
