Huawei Pura 80 Ultra debuts switchable tele lenses and 1" main sensor
Huawei's Pura series has become the de facto breeding ground for the brand's latest camera developments, and the Pura 80 Ultra offers the most capable setup to date. This year's headlining factor is a massive 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto sensor attached to two lenses.
Huawei managed to integrate an intricate moving mechanism that shifts between the two lenses. You get 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom with sensor-shift OIS between the two units.
This effectively means that you can capture shots at f/2.4 aperture with an 83 mm equivalent focal length or at f/3.6 aperture with a 212 mm focal length.

Pura 80 Ultra also boasts a 50MP main shooter featuring a 1-inch type RYYB sensor with variable f/1.6 - f/4.0 aperture and OIS. Huawei claims shots from the main shooter offer 15x higher dynamic range compared to the Pura 70 Ultra.
The 1"-type main sensor gets 16EV dynamic range
In fact, the main shooter is rated at 16EV dynamic range, which is a record achievement for a smartphone. This should translate to improved preservation of light and dark details in images and video.
The Pura 80 series also gets photographic style with Nature, Film, Movie and Cartoon presets. Huawei has developed a new real-time fusion technology for video that preserves highlight details. Pura 80 Ultra also features a 40MP ultrawide lens (13mm) and a 1.5MP multi-spectral color sensor.
Photographic style presets
Outside of the cameras, Pura 80 Ultra brings a quad curved 6.8-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It is protected by second-gen Kunlun glass and boasts up to 3,000 nits peak local brightness.
There's no info on the chipset at the helm, so we'll have to wait for teardown videos for that info. We do know that the Pura 80 Ultra features 16GB RAM as standard and is configurable with 512GB or 1TB storage.
The Pura 80 series boots HarmonyOS 5.1, and in the case of the Ultra, we have a 5,700 mAh battery with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. The phone is also IP68/69 water and dust resistant.
Huawei Pura 80 Ultra comes in Black and Gold colors.

The Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra are powered by Kirin 9020
Huawei just announced the Pura 80 family, including a new Ultra. As has become the norm for the company, it didn't reveal which chipsets are powering these phones – officially, Huawei only says that they are 36% faster than their Pura 70 counterparts and that's it. The Huawei Pura 80 Pro+ and 80 Ultra are powered by Kirin 9020 Folks over at Weibo already shared some hands-on photos with the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, which is rumored to use the same chipset as the Pura 80 Pro+ – the Kirin 9020 that was also featured in the Mate 70 series. The Pura 70 series used the older Kirin 9010. Kirin 9020 is an in-house design from HiSilicon with three Taishan cores: Main (1 at 2.5GHz), Middle (three at 2.15GHz) and Little (four at 1.6GHz). Note that two bigger cores have hyperthreading and run two threads each – this is why some software shows them as 2+6+4 instead of the actual 1+3+4. The GPU is a Maleoon 920 at 840MHz. More evidence of the Kirin 9020 inside the Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra It's not clear which chip is used in the Huawei Pura 80 Pro – it might be the same Kirin 9020, but we'll have to wait on confirmation for that. As for the vanilla Pura 80, some tipsters claim that it uses the Kirin 9020A, a down-clocked variant of the 9020 with its three CPU clusters running at 2.4GHz, 2.0GHz and 1.6GHz. The Pura 80 and 80 Pro are configured with 12GB of RAM. Storage ranges from 256GB base to 1TB. The Pura 80 Pro+ and Ultra have 16GB of RAM instead and 512GB or 1TB storage. All four run HarmonyOS 5.1. Source (in Chinese) | Via

Huawei leads global wearables market, Apple is only third
According to a new report from IDC China, Huawei led the global wearables market in the first quarter of this year (January to March), with 10 million shipments, taking a 21.9% market share. This represents 42.4% growth compared to the year-ago quarter, when it shipped 7 million units and had 17% of the market. Next up is Xiaomi with 8.7 million shipments and 19% of the pie. Xiaomi recorded the biggest year-on-year growth at 42.6%, as last year it had 6.1 million shipments and a 14.7% market share. Apple is only in third with 7 million shipments and a 15.5% market share. It grew 37.2% from its Q1 2024 performance of 5.1 million shipments and 12.5% market share. Samsung is in fourth with 3.4 million shipments and 7.5% of the pie, and its sales have declined by 5.7% compared to the year-ago quarter when it managed 3.6 million shipments for an 8.8% market share. Rounding up the top five is Garmin with 2.1 million shipments and 4.7% market share, growing 29.5% year-on-year from 1.6 million shipments and 4% market share. The market overall shipped 45.6 million units in Q1 this year, of which 34.81 million units were smartwatches and 10.76 million were smart bands. The market overall is up by 10.5% from 41.2 million in Q1 2024. Of those 45.6 million units, 17.62 million represent the Chinese market alone, which grew 37.6% year-on-year. China's smartwatch market shipped 11.4 million units, up 25.3% year-on-year, and its smart band market managed 6.21 million units shipped with a growth of 67.9%. All of this growth in China is driven by the national subsidy scheme by the Chinese government, and this will continue to promote growth in the country's wristwear market, with IDC predicting that full-year 2025 numbers will be 36.9% higher than in 2024.
