War 2 movie box office prediction day 1: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR's actioner likely to open at Rs 19 crore, less than half of the first part

War 2 Box Office Collection Prediction Day 1: Director Ayan Mukerji's spy thriller, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, is all set to hit cinemas tomorrow on August 14, on the eve of Independence Day. While the excitement is quite high, its advance booking suggests the opening day collection at the domestic box office may pale in comparison to not only its current competition, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth's Tamil crime thriller Coolie, but also the first part of the War franchise, which was released in 2019. As of Wednesday morning, War 2 is estimated to open on Thursday at Rs 18.37 crore in India. This includes Rs 8.34 crore of block booking. The major chunk of the remainder of the collection belongs to the native Hindi version at Rs 6 crore, across the 2D, IMAX 2D, 4DX, ICE, and DOLBY CINE formats. However, the advance booking for the Hindi version started last weekend. On the other hand, the advance booking in the Telugu-speaking states of Hyderabad and Telangana started only on Tuesday. It was initially scheduled to begin on Monday, but was delayed by a day owing to a pending state governments' order regarding hike in ticket prices. Once the advance booking in the two states started, the tickets sold as fast as 20,000 per hour, as per Sacnilk. As of Wednesday morning, the dubbed Telugu version of War 2 follows the original Hindi version with a share of Rs 3.5 crore, across the 2D, IMAX 2D, and 4DX versions. The Telugu sales have been bolstered by the presence of Jr NTR as the chief antagonist in the film. However, the Tamil dubbed version has only a minor share in the total advance sales at just Rs 10 lakh. War 2 will surely not be the biggest opener in India this week as Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, has registered advance sales worth Rs 30 crore domestically across the original Tamil, and dubbed Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada versions. The film also has an upper hand worldwide, having already sold tickets worth Rs 75 crore, as compared to less than Rs 50 crore for War 2. In comparison, Siddharth Anand's War, starring Hrithik, Tiger Shroff, and Vaani Kapoor, had opened at Rs 53.35 crore in India alone. While Hrithik and Ashutosh Rana reprise their roles in the sequel, they'll be joined by Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, who plays Hrithik's new love interest. War 2 also marks director Ayan Mukerji's first film outside of Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, since the spy thriller is backed by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films. Its future instalments include Shiv Rawail's Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, which is slated to release in cinemas this Christmas on December 25.
