Chiefs Wide Receiver Rashee Rice Sentenced To 30 Days In Jail Over Dallas High-Speed Crash

NDTV4 days ago
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail on Thursday after authorities said he and another speeding driver caused a chain-reaction crash that left multiple people injured on a Dallas highway last year. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office said Rice pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury in the March 30, 2024, crash. As part of a plea agreement, Rice was sentenced to five years of deferred probation and 30 days in jail as a condition of his probation, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said he was also required to pay the victims for their out-of-pocket medical expenses, which totaled about $115,000.
Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at 119 mph (191 kph) when he made "multiple aggressive maneuvers around traffic" and struck other vehicles, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said that after the crash, Rice failed to check on the welfare of those in the other vehicles and fled on foot.
The news release from prosecutors included a statement from Rice that was released by his attorney. Rice said in the statement that he's had "a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole."
"I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property," Rice said in the statement. "I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families."

He lived with his 28-year-old wife, Komal Chavan, in Gadgapada, Nalasopara East, located around 70 km from Mumbai. On Monday, his brothers visited his home during their search. About Drishyam, the movie that inspired the horrific murder Drishyam is a well-known Indian thriller praised for its suspenseful plot and emotional storyline. "Thought They Were My Fans": Singer-Rapper Rahul Fazilpuria On Gun Attack To NDTV

New Delhi: Haryanvi singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria, who narrowly escaped unharmed after assailants fired at him in Gurugram earlier this month, said that he initially thought the attackers were his fans. Fazilpuria, whose real name is Rahul Yadav, told NDTV that he was saved since he reversed his car quickly when he heard gunshots. "The attack was so sudden. At first, I thought they were my fans. Then I heard two rounds of firing...I was saved as I reversed my car quickly," he said. Two shots were fired at the singer's car at Badshahpur Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) in Gurugram on the night of July 14. He was driving through the village in Sector 71 when the attack took place. The bullet reportedly hit the pole installed in the middle of the divider, as bullet marks are seen on it. A total of two shots were fired at Fazilpuria - and he managed to escape both with no injuries. Two days after the incident, a man named Sunil Sardhania - said to be Fazilpuria's close friend - claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post. He named Deepak Nandal, a music producer, and Indrajit Yadav, an alleged member of the Himanshu Bhau gang, as those involved. According to Sardhania, Fazilpuria had taken Rs 5 crore from Nandal and was not returning it. He threatened to kill one of Fazilpuria's associates every month, for 10 months, if he fails to repay the loan. However, Fazilpuria thinks that the post is "fake". "Those who have taken responsibility for the attack on social Sardhania and Deepak Nandal are my friends. They have worked with me. I think someone has made a fake responsibility post in their name. I don't know the third person named in the post - Indrajit Yadav," Fazilpuria told NDTV. Haryana Police sources identified Sunil Sardhania as a resident of Rohtak with several criminal cases registered against him. In 2024, he had fled abroad on a fake passport. His family members are being interrogated by the police over the Fazilpuria attack. The second accused, Deepak Nandal, is a music producer and rapper in the Haryanvi music industry. He had made many hit songs with Fazilpuria and rapper Badshah such as 'Haryana Roadways', '2 Money Girls', and 'Kar Gayi Chul'. The police have also arrested a suspect named Vishal, linked to the firing incident. 'Got threats' The singer-rapper, speaking to NDTV, said that he received many threats after the murder of Sidhu Moosewala - who was shot dead while driving in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29, 2022. "I got the threats because I had said Sidhu Moosewala's murder was wrong. Earlier, I received threats in the name of Lawrence Bishnoi. No one was arrested. They gave me security for some time, but removed it three months ago. Even when I went to the police station after the recent firing incident, I got a threatening call. I am in danger," Fazilpuria said. According to the singer, threatening artists and singers has become a trend. "This is what is happening these days, someone goes abroad, gets a SIM card there and sends two shooters, this has become a trend," he said. Fazilpuria, a friend of YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT Season 2 winner Elvish Yadav, was in the news last year when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned him in a money laundering case. He had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Gurugram constituency, representing the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP). He, however, did not win and was defeated by BJP's Mukesh Sharma - who secured a victory by a margin of 1.22 lakh votes.

'Love Jihad' Accused Says He Is A Victim, Wants To Convert Again

Agra: A man arrested in a large-scale illegal religious conversion racket has said that he is also a victim and that he wants to convert to Hinduism again, sources told NDTV on Monday. Mohammad Ali is among 10 people who were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police from six states in the 'love jihad' case last Saturday. The probe began in Agra in March after two sisters -- aged 33 and 18 -- were reported missing. Agra Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar had said preliminary investigations found that the sisters were targeted by a gang involved in ' love jihad ' and radicalisation. "We found clues about their funding originating from the US and Canada," he had said. . — POLICE COMMISSIONERATE AGRA (@agrapolice) July 19, 2025 Ali, a resident of Rajasthan who was Piyush Panwar before converting, has told the police about the conversion network. Lodged in an Agra jail, he broke down during the initial interrogation by the police and said that he wanted to return home, sources said. He also said he wanted to leave Islam and become a Hindu. He said he wants to apologise to his parents, who broke ties with him after he converted to Islam. How Piyush Panwar Became Mohammad Ali The story of Piyush Panwar becoming Mohammad Ali started in 2021, when he first met Shana, a woman from Rajasthan's Tonk. They then fell in love and decided to get married, sources said. Shana, however, put a condition, saying that Piyush will have to accept Islam. Piyush agreed and changed his name to Mohammad Ali in the same year. Shana then rejected him after he was converted. Ali, whose family had cut ties with him, then decided not to convert again and married a Muslim girl from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly, according to sources. How Mohammad Ali Became Part Of Conversion Racket While trying to convert to Islam, he had come into contact with Mohammad Gaus, a member of the Popular Front of India (PFI), which was banned by the Centre in 2022 for its alleged links with global terrorist organisations. Through Gaus, he met a cleric, Kaleem Siddiqui, in Delhi, who was convicted in a separate conversion case last year. Ali then went to West Bengal for religious education. He stayed in the madrasas in Asansol, Bardhaman and Katwapara for three months. About a year ago, he came in contact with a woman, Ayesha, from Goa on Instagram. Ayesha, who is also among the 10 people arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police, used to record the names of the girls who were converted to Islam. The police have said that Ali is a close associate of Ayesha. Ali, who was arrested in Jaipur, has also told the police that the members of the PFI and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) are also linked with their network. Besides Ali and Ayesha, the other accused arrested in the case under 'Mission Asmita', an ongoing initiative aimed at dismantling such illegal syndicates, have been identified as Hasan Ali and Osama from Kolkata, Rahman Qureshi from Agra, Abu Talib from Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), Abdur Rehman from Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Mohammad Ali and Junaid Qureshi from Rajasthan, and Mustafa from Delhi. "The modus operandi of the gang involved illegal conversion and radicalisation bears a signature of ISIS," the police had said. The arrests come days after another man, Chhangur Baba, alias Jamaluddin, the mastermind of a religious conversion gang, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad.
