‘Andor' Season 2 Composer On Scoring The Show's Poignant Conclusion: ‘Don't Mess That Up!'

Andor has officially come to an end and, as promised by its creators, the Season 2 finale (also the series conclusion) led directly into the events of the acclaimed Episode IV prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
In the show's final moments, battle-worn Rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and his sardonic droid buddy, K-2S0 (voiced by Alan Tudyk), set off for the Ring of Kafrene to meet with Cassian's confidential informant. That contact is Tivik (portrayed in Rogue One by Daniel Mays), who will corroborate the intel Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) died for:
The Empire has indeed built a super-weapon — the dreaded, planet-destroying battle station known as the Death Star — to crush all remnants of dissent throughout the galaxy once and for all.
But as our titular hero flies off to hear the crucial piece of information that will ultimately bring peace to that collection of stars far, far away, there's the stabbing knowledge in the back of our minds that he, K-2SO, and so many others are doomed. Dozens of courageous souls are destined to meet their ends on Scarif while stealing and transmitting the Death Star plans to their cohorts hovering above the tropical planet.
In other words, the Andor finale is the very definition of bittersweet when taken alongside the existing context Rogue One established nearly a decade ago. It's a context that grows ever more poignant by way of the series' finale scene, which returns us to the Outer Rim farming world of Mina-Rau, where Bix (Adria Arjona) has been living since she made the difficult decision to leave Cassian on Yavin 4.
Walking into the wheat fields, Bix carries a newborn child and looks up as the sun breaks through an overcast sky. While the baby's identity is not explicitly confirmed, there can be no doubt of its paternal origin. Cassian's child is, quite literally, the embodiment of a new hope; the start of a fresh generation that will know freedom and self-determination, thanks to Casssian's noble sacrifice.

Scoring such an impactful bookend was no small feat for Season 2 composer Brandon Roberts, who got the chance to watch all 12 episodes before writing the music. 'That's rare,' he notes over a Zoom call. 'Normally, they're in process [while you're scoring]
When Roberts got to the last episode, there was no music — not even a temp track. 'I was very sick at the time," he remembers. "I was in bed, watching it on my laptop, and [when] I got to that scene, I openly wept. It was so beautiful and such a perfect way to end that story; such a perfect way to re-contextualize Rogue One, that I was very overwhelmed and surprised by that moment. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. And then the second thought I had was, 'Don't mess that up! It doesn't even need music!' I did score the sequence, but even up until the end, we kept it so minimal, because the moment, and Bix's expression…it was all there onscreen.'
Andor creator, showrunner, and executive producer Tony Gilroy (also a co-screenwriter on Rogue One) was apparently very hands-on with the score, regularly flying in to Los Angeles from London or New York in order to visit Roberts' studio for days at a time.
'We would sit there, going through every cue, in every scene … fine tune it and try stuff," Roberts says. "A lot of it [was] taking music out. Sometimes, it was, 'Hey, I think we can wait longer to bring the music in.' We would fine tune it and go down to the wire. It was a really wonderful way to collaborate, and I haven't had that level of intensity for that extended period of time with a director. Tony is extremely musical, so it was a good match. I think by the time we went to the recording sessions [at the British Grove Studios in London], everyone was on the same page. There were no surprises. The whole process was very smooth."
Both seasons of Andor are now streaming exclusively on Disney+

ANDOR Creator Tony Gilroy Had to Fight Disney For Season 2 Budget After Being Told "Streaming is Dead" — GeekTyrant
Andor is one of this shows that raised the bar for the Star Wars franchise. But, getting to that second season? That didn't come easy. Tony Gilroy, the creator of Andor and the mind behind Rogue One , opened up at the ATX Television Festival about the uphill battle he faced securing proper funding for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series. While you'd think Disney would be all-in after Season 1's success, Gilroy revealed a much grimmer outlook from the studio: "I mean, [for] Disney this is $650 million. For 24 episodes, I never took a note. We said 'F*ck the Empire' in the first season, and they said, 'Can you please not do that?' … In season 2, they said, 'Streaming is dead, we don't have the money we had before,' so we fought hard about money, but they never cleaned anything up. That [freedom] comes with responsibilities." 'Streaming is dead,' according to what Gilroy was told during Season 2's production. Kind of a surprise, considering this is Disney we're talking about, owners of Disney+, the home of Andor, The Mandalorian , and every Marvel show. But, this internal sentiment makes a bit more sense when you look at the recent slowdown in Disney's streaming content pipeline. Marvel shows have slowed down. Star Wars shows are fewer and farther between. The emphasis, for now, seems to be shifting, toward theatrical releases. I'm glad to hear that Gilroy 'fought hard' for the budget and to preserve the scope and freedom of the show. It was a massive creative swing that kept its integrity intact despite the studio's shifting priorities. Even with all the struggles behind the scenes, Andor remains the most critically lauded live-action Star Wars project to date. It was an impressive show that hit a nerve with fans, elevating the franchise in a way no other Star Wars project has. As for what's next : The Mandalorian & Grogu is headed to the big screen with Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling are confirmed to be teaming on the Starfighter movie. Ahsoka 's second season is underway for a 2026 release, and a Darth Maul series is also coming.

Father's Day sale — 15 gift ideas I'd shop from Patagonia, Under Armour and more
The first week of June is officially underway and while there are no major retail holidays this month, there's one big event that'll be here before you know it. I'm talking about Father's Day. Father's Day 2025 falls on June 15th and while that's still roughly two weeks out, now is the best time to do your shopping if you want your gift delivered on time. Additionally, there are plenty of Father's Day sales happening this week with gifts for just about any budget. One of my favorite Father's Day sales right now comes courtesy of Amazon. For a limited time, Amazon has Father's Day gifts on sale from $5. The sale include fun gifts like aprons and polo shirts as well as top sellers like Bluetooth speakers and small kitchen appliances. Not to be outdone, the Home Depot Father's Day sale is also live with discounts on power tools, grills, mowers, and more. (You can shop our top deals in this roundup). To help you pick out the best sales and gifts, I've picked out my top 15 picks from today's biggest sales. Make sure you don't hesitate because June 15th will be here before you know it. This Blueair Air Purifier is ideal to handle rooms with a coverage of up to 1,858 sq ft. It includes a HEPASilent, dual filtration technology that can remove at least 99% of airborne particles. What's more, with its modern design, it'll suit the decor in any room. The 2025 iPad features a larger 11-inch (2360 x 1640) screen, A16 CPU, 12MP rear/front cameras, USB-C connectivity, and Magic Keyboard Folio ($249) support. The new Apple Watch boasts a thinner/lighter design, faster charging, and a new FDA-authorized sleep apnea detection feature. Other new key features include 30% more screen area, rounded corners, and a first-ever wide-angle OLED display. In our Apple Watch 10 review we said the optimized watchOS 11 experience and faster charging are worthwhile and make this the Apple Watch to get for most people. All the Awesome STAR WARS Easter Eggs in Luthen Rael's Shop in ANDOR — GeekTyrant
The Star War series Andor wasn't interested in nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. It doesn't drop in characters just to make fans point at the screen. While Tony Gilroy kept the narrative lean and meaningful, the rest of the creative team, especially the set designers, had a field day sneaking in some cool Easter eggs, and nowhere is that more evident than in Luthen Rael's elegant, mysterious antique shop. Luthen's Coruscant storefront, Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest, might just be a cover for rebel dealings, but make no mistake: it's packed with deep lore, rare relics, and blink-and-you'll-miss-it treasures that even the most devoted Star Wars fans are still picking apart. It's like the Star Wars version of a high-end gallery crossed with a lore junkie's fever dream. With Season 2 now streaming on Disney+, confirmed a whole new batch of props, alongside some returning favorites from Season 1. Let's take a tour through this gallery of galactic goodies, and unpack just how much history is packed into those shelves and pedestals. From Season 2: 1. Sith Chalice This incense burner was used in ancient rituals and looks suspiciously like the one Palpatine kept in his office in Revenge of the Sith. That artifact was found on Malachor, but Luthen? No one knows how he got his hands on his. 2. Wookiee Shields First seen in Revenge of the Sith, the Klorri-clan battle shields are back—teardrop-shaped and wrapped in bronzium bands. Season 1 teased them, but Season 2 goes big with multiples on display. 3. Togruta Pot With a sculpted Togruta perched on top, this unique pot is the first of its kind seen in Star Wars. It's especially interesting for fans of Ahsoka Tano, since the Togruta are her people. 4. Kalikori From Star Wars Rebels , the Kalikori is a Twi'lek family heirloom, passed down and added to across generations. The one here might not be the Syndulla's, but it's just as meaningful. 5. Concept Mandalorian Helmet This isn't your standard Mando gear. This helmet nods to Ralph McQuarrie's early concept art for Boba Fett, and even recalls the Rako Hardeen design from The Clone Wars . It's a gorgeous tribute to Star Wars design evolution. 6. Royal Naboo Headdress That glimmering headdress is the same style Queen Amidala wore in The Phantom Menace . Regal, iconic, and subtly heartbreaking when you remember Padmé's fate. 7. Decorative Gungan Skull Equal parts beautiful and morbid, this aurodium-inlaid Gungan skull is covered in ancient symbols. A rare, ceremonial relic from a long-gone era. Season 1: 1. Amidala-Style Headpiece Tucked in the rear of the shop, this ornate headpiece nearly matches the one worn by Padmé in Attack of the Clones . A deep pull for prequel fans. 2. Mandalorian Armor Not just any armor—this is full-on shimmering display armor, gleaming under showroom lights, placed right next to the Amidala piece. A fascinating juxtaposition of cultures. 3. Jedi Temple Guard Mask Seen for the first time in live-action, this ivory-and-gold mask originally appeared in The Clone Wars . In Luthen's shop, it looks both sacred and ominous. 4. Sankara Stones Yes, those Sankara stones from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom . They're tucked away in the back room, one of several cheeky nods to Lucasfilm's other iconic universe. 5. Sith Holocron Hidden among the 'not-for-sale' dark side goods, this Holocron is a red flag for any Jedi. But in a shop like this, it's just another antique. 6. Starkiller's Dark Lord Helmet Straight from The Force Unleashed's dark side ending, this helmet sits in the shadows, part of a larger set of armor. A sly reference to a fan-favorite game. 7. Wookiee Helmet The traditional war helmet of Kashyyyk warriors, on full display. Alongside the shields, Luthen's clearly curated quite a collection of Wookiee history. 8. Gungan Shield These energy-screen shields made their debut in The Phantom Menace , but this one's the real deal—not CG. A practical prop with real-world weight. 9. World Between Worlds Tablet A deep cut from Rebels and Ahsoka , this mystical tablet is inspired by the realm that plays with time, space, and destiny. It's tucked by the left wall, waiting for someone who knows what they're looking at. 10. Carbonite Blocks A loving homage to Empire, but look closer: the subjects frozen inside aren't just smugglers. One's the fertility idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark . Another? An Engineer head from Prometheus . These blink-and-you'll-miss-them cameos are pure geek joy. Luthen Rael's shop may be a rebel front, but it's also one of the best Easter egg museums in Star Wars . The attention to detail isn't just about references, it's about world-building. These props remind us that the galaxy is ancient, layered, and brimming with stories we haven't even heard yet.
