Everyone Is Wearing This Preppy Skirt Style For Summer

Graziadaily23-07-2025
It's funny how things you think are completely uncool when you're younger, suddenly become cool again. Take ballet flats, for example. I vividly remember hating the way the shoes looked (particularly those with bows on front), now, lo and behold I'm wearing them with midi skirts, mini dresses and pretty much anything this summer. Another example would be the skinny scarf, which has also done a 180 this year, making a departure from its Disney-actress-pedal-pusher past into something entirely cool again. But, the latest item to transition? The pleated skirt.
It's no secret that fashion is very much in its uniform-obsessed era. From the polished tennis whites seen at Wimbledon (no, we're still not over it), to the school playground nostalgia at Miu Miu's spring/summer 2025 runway, where leg warmers were paired with grey blazers and pointed kitten heels, the dress code is unmistakably institutional. Naturally, then, we've been taken with pleated skirts for the summer, and while Miu Miu makes excellent minis, there's another brand making some of the best pleated skirts we've seen. Enter, Moncler. You might not usually associate the brand with frills and femininity, after all, it's a brand that has carved out a reputation for puffer jackets and down coats, but Moncler have somewhat surprisingly nailed the preppy skirt trend with an offering packed full of soft pleats.

This pleated skirt is not your average, oh no, it's more feminine than that, thanks to its delicate navy and red braided trim. Lean into its almost sporty aesthetic by pairing it with a tank top or collared blouse.

There are four standouts from Moncler's pleated skirt line-up. Two miniskirts – one that leans into the more classic collegiate style, and another that's more sporty. Both are smartly tailored but unfussy, far from the stiff skirts you likely wore to school.
Style the beige minis with a boxy t-shirt or a fine-knit tank top and chunky sandals for the summer, and transition into the cooler months by layering an oversized blazer on top. If you're after a longer style, the Pleated Midi Skirt features deeper pleats and a below-the-knee length, which is perfect for styling with chunky loafers and a polo shirt, or dressing up with kitten heels and a boho blouse. Meanwhile, its Wool Blend Pleated Midi Skirt borrows slightly more from your secondary school staple, but it's still equally as chic nonetheless, especially when paired with a fitted roll neck and flat knee-high boots (a staple for a wet summer too).

There's something incredibly ironic in the way Moncler's pleated skirts are trending at the beginning of the summer holidays (although expect the trend to continue well into term time). While classrooms sit empty and uniforms are folded (or most likely, shoved) to the abyss at the back of the wardrobe, designers are doing the exact opposite – leaning into pleats and structure with a new, more grown-up energy, and we're firmly on board.

Moncler describes this skirt as a 'nod to collegiate style', mainly because of its pleated design and side zip closure that's reminiscent of the type of skirt you used to wear to school. Made from a cotton blend, style in the summer with platform sandals and a baby tee, and in the cooler months with a roll neck and chunky boots.

Summer I Turned Pretty siren Lola Tung shines at event... after dishing on her juicy 'love triangle' series

Lola Tung let down her hair at a fun event over the weekend. The TV star was celebrating the grand opening of Crocs' new SoHo store at 543 Broadway. The brunette was stepping out in her new favorite style: the Classic Crafted Clog. Tung wore a powder blue oversized T-shirt with black painter pants that had several pockets down the front. Her Crocs were a caramel brown color. 'Had the best time meeting you guys yesterday and hanging out at the @crocs new soho store,' wrote the Crocs spokesperson on Instagram. This comes after she talked about the third and final season of her hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty. It is a very popular love triangle story that is full of beautiful people set at picturesque Cousins Beach. In mid July she talked up the show while on The Tonight Show. She discussed which hunky brother her character, charmer Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, will end up with. The men who want her are Jeremiah, played by Gavin Casalegno, and Conrad, played by Christopher Briney. 'Season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger. This was a big deal. I mean, your character, Belly, chose Jeremiah over Conrad,' Jimmy Fallon said before asking Tung what she thought about that ending. 'I'm all for her following her heart,' the actress shared as she said she was 'Team Belly.' Belly was careful to not give any secretive plot details away. She continued: 'And she's doing what she needs to do in the moment, and following her heart in that moment and in every moment.' In a snippet shared during the show, viewers see Belly watching Jeremiah play Twister when Conrad calls him. Jeremiah asks Belly to answer and she and Conrad have an awkward exchange. When asked about Season 3, Tung said, 'I think it's a lot more of the emotional rollercoaster you're used to, I guess, and also, you know, there's a little time jump, so we meet the characters in a little bit of a more mature place, I think.' Season three takes place four years after season two ended. While on The Tonight Show Tung wore a John Galliano for Dior corset dress from a 2001 collection, along with a pair of 2013 Dior Mary Jane pumps as she accessorized with Panconesi earrings. In a trailer for the show's third and final season, Conrad is seen asking Belly's best friend Taylor (played by Rain Spencer) for advice about his plan to come back into Belly's life. It's clear he is ready to win her over again. The first two episodes of season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty will premiere on Prime Video on Wednesday, July 16. Season three will consist of 10 episodes. The program, which had viewers crying hard enough to give themselves migraines, has become one of Amazon Prime Video's most popular shows. Amazon and MGM Studios' head of television, Vernon Sanders, issued a statement to elaborate on the success of the coming-of-age series. 'We've been delighted to see the passion with which fans have embraced The Summer I Turned Pretty, making Summer Fridays an entertainment phenomenon,' he said. Sanders went on to speak about how The Summer I Turned Pretty, which was created by Jenny Han, had quickly become a fan-favorite program. 'This charming, deeply heartfelt series has shown the breadth of our customer base, appealing to a young, diverse set of viewers. Jenny Han is a gifted storyteller, whose fans have been clamoring for the third chapter of this story,' he stated. The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on Han's book of the same name, which was originally released in 2009. The book was followed up by a pair of sequels that were published in 2010 and 2011, respectively. The series is centered on Isabel 'Belly' Conklin, a teenage girl who ends up in a love triangle with a pair of brothers.

Calvin Haris and Vick Hope welcome first baby and reveal powerful name

Calvin Harris and Vick Hope have shared the happy news of the birth of their first child. The couple posted a series of photos with their baby boy, named Micah, on Instagram, including some graphic images from the water birth itself, such as Vick's placenta. '20th of July our boy arrived. Micah is here! My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah,' Calvin wrote in the caption to his post. The name Micah has Hebrew origins and translates to 'who is like God?'. The other images include one of Calvin cradling the baby in the sun, lifting his son out of the water and the creation of Vick's (presumably) placenta pills. Vick reposted the first image on her story with the phrase 'my boys' with the sun emoji. The BBC Radio 1 presenter, Vick, 35, has been married to her DJ husband, 41, since September 2023, and announced her pregnancy in May. Disney is being forced to make a quiet change to all theme parks across America

Fireworks have long been a staple of any Disney trip but now the skies above the Happiest Place on Earth may be a lot less dazzling. The iconic nighttime displays have been put in jeopardy due to a controversial policy imposed by Donald Trump. China is a major supplier of fireworks to the United States but with the steep tariffs imposed on Chinese imports, shipments are being heavily impacted. Walt Disney World is the second-largest purchaser of explosives in the United States, after the US military, per Disney historians and industry insiders, according to Inside the Magic. This includes fireworks for all four parks - Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Roughly 99 percent of fireworks used in the U.S. come from China, and tariffs were as high as 30 percent in May, according to The New York Times. Julie Heckman, executive director of the American Pyrotechnics Association, an industry trade group, explained: 'I would anticipate that most people are going to get a little less bang for their buck this year. She continued, per Red River Radio: 'I think we will see some product shortages. 'I would encourage customers to shop early for the best variety of product.' One insider said, according to Inside the Magic, 'Disney doesn't make their own. They buy them from various sources. 'Each week they drive out there and pick up enough for the next week's performances.' While Disney has not publicly canceled its nightly firework shows, insiders say supply issues are already forcing the company to quietly scale back some displays, swapping out full-scale pyrotechnics for projections, lasers and drones. The changes may be subtle to casual park goers but longtime fans are starting to take notice. One avid theme park visitor wrote about the 'situation' in a since-deleted tweet alongside a video of the new display. Her clip compared the new fireworks to the original with notable differences including the timing of the bursts, colors and patterns. 'With the current tariff situation, I fear we will never get the original flower burst back,' she wrote, according to the outlet. 'This is the replacement. It was breathtaking and seemed to continue to burst forever. There's a number of Happily Ever After updates that have occurred.' Daily Mail has contacted Disney for further comment. Beyond the impact on Disney, the American Pyrotechnics Association has warned of broader cancellations nationwide. Experts are also concerned that the situation could worsen in 2026, when demand spikes for America's 250th anniversary. Disney CEO Bob Iger previously voiced concern about how the tariffs, which also hit steel, merchandise, and cruise ship materials, could disrupt expansion plans and park operations, per New York Post.
