Waiting in line at Epic Universe: Which attraction has the best queue experience?
ORLANDO -- In the battle for the best attraction queue at Epic Universe, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge were in a tie when I rode them on Wednesday.
Then I rode Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry on Thursday.
Queues are just the precursors to attractions, but especially in periods of high demand (which Epic Universe is sure to experience), riders spend the most time there, waiting to board. A good queue can make all the difference, staving off boredom by entertaining and informing riders during wait times that climb from minutes to more than an hour.
Battle at the Ministry rocketed above them all with a mind-blowing and jaw-dropping queue.
The most spectacular queue in any theme park
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry is located in Epic Universe's Wizarding World of Harry Potter -- Ministry of Magic. The themed world is set in 1920s Paris, but for Battle at the Ministry, riders are cleverly transported to 1990s London, just after the original seven Harry Potter books ended.

To enter the attraction, riders walk into what they believe is the Paris Metro. Through the magic of floo powder, they are transported to the British Ministry of Magic to witness the trial of the beloathed Dolores Umbridge.
The transportation via floo powder is particularly effective. To make it from Paris to London, riders simply walk through an opening in the wall and are surrounded by fog and green light. More green-lighted fog awaits them at the end of a short tunnel, and they emerge in the British Ministry of Magic. It's a simple, but effective, trick that delighted every rider I saw "travel" via floo.
What awaits is the most spectacular queue in any theme park.
Universal has recreated the British Ministry of Magic to perfection in an indoor space that feels larger than several football fields. The Atrium features the Fountain of Magical Brethren statue, flanked by ministry offices. In the distance, another statue and more offices can be seen, with interdepartmental memos (purple paper airplanes) flying around to find their intended recipients.
Riders continue on, seeing more of the ministry and the packing of Umbridge's office by her house elf, Higgledy, who plays a significant role on the ride itself.
Kudos to Universal Creative on this one: It will be hard to beat. It's as if they dropped the film set right into the theme park.

Here's what guests will see on Epic Universe queues that finished a distant second and third to Harry.
During Monsters Unchained, riders enter the Frankenstein Manor and see all sorts of things, from notes on human anatomy to wires cracking with electricity connected to a vampire bat. It's a (slightly morbid) feast for the eyes.
During Mario Kart, riders find themselves walking through Bowser's Castle. His library is perhaps the most impressive feature, aside from the giant statue of Mario's arch-nemesis himself, featuring books like "Off the Edge: A Rainbow Road Story" and "Strong-Arm Your Way to the Top."

While I can confidently say Battle at the Ministry has won the competition for best queue, best ride is another category entirely. And it's an extremely subjective one.
Even if you use an objective scoring system, it wouldn't be applicable to everyone. For example, some might love rollercoasters. Others (ahem, me, formerly) might avoid them like the plague for fear of motion sickness.
Here is my rundown of Monsters Unchained and Battle at the Ministry, as well as other attractions in Epic Universe's Ministry of Magic and Dark Universe. I previously wrote about other Epic Universe attractions.

The delightfully spooky Dark Universe
Monsters Unchained is located in the Dark Universe world. It's set in the village of Darkmoor, which is beyond a doubt worth a visit after dark, when the spooky factor is multiplied.

The attraction invites riders into the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein has continued on the family tradition of working with monsters and trapped the likes of Dracula, the Wolf Man and the Mummy. Dracula leads a revolt, and chaos ensues.
This is a delightfully spooky attraction with a ride vehicle that moves riders in every direction except upside-down.
The motion-sensitive should avoid it, as should young children. It has a 48-inch height requirement, and would likely terrify the youngest visitors. While the level of terror depends on the individual child, I think parents of anyone younger than 8 should ride themselves first to determine if it's a fit for their kids.
But for those up for some spooks and jump-scares, this attraction is great fun. I was impressed with how smoothly the ride vehicle moves.
Also, the ride blends screens and real-life set pieces, including animatronics, incredibly well. The Dracula animatronics are particularly good.
Dark Universe is also home to the roller coaster Curse of the Werewolf, with a minimum height requirement of 40 inches. It's a fun attraction with spinning coaster cars, but that spinning might affect motion-sensitive guests. It's a rather short ride, but a good bit of fun.
Is Battle at the Ministry the best Epic ride?
The sole ride in Ministry of Magic is Battle at the Ministry. It has a minimum height requirement of 40 inches. Riders board elevators in the Ministry of Magic to view Umbridge's trial. Of course, things go awry.
Their elevator moves up and down, back and forth, as Umbridge attempts to escape with the help of Death Eaters. The elevator's movements are relatively smooth, albeit occasionally unexpected, making for a fun ride.

Like Monsters Unchained, the attraction does a particularly good job of deftly marrying screens with animatronics and set pieces. It also offers a new story in the Harry Potter universe, featuring the original three characters (Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger) and set just after the books conclude.
If I had to choose between Monsters Unchained and Battle at the Ministry, Potter and friends would prevail as best Epic Universe ride, but by a slim margin.
Ministry of Magic is also home to a stage show, Le Cirque Arcanus. I don't want to offer any spoilers here. All I'll say is watch the Fantastic Beasts movies before visiting, and expect an extraordinary show. It's surprising, delightful and not to be missed.
Afterwards, I couldn't help myself and bought a plush Demiguise. It's, uh, for my daughter.

NHL Stanley Cup 2025: Oilers' win over Stars sets up rematch against Panthers
This year, the Stanley Cup Final will look familiar, as the Edmonton Oilers face off against the Florida Panthers for the second straight year. The 2024 Final rematch will begin Wednesday in what is likely to be another exciting series. Edmonton secured its 2025 Final appearance with a 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday, icing a 4-1 series win and the Western Conference championship. The victory set up a rematch against Florida, which picked up its own 4-1 series win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday. Advertisement As the Oilers chase their first Stanley Cup since 1990, their final obstacle will once again be the Panthers, who defeated Edmonton in a thrilling series in 2024. Florida went up 3-0 in the series before Edmonton went on a run to force a Game 7; the Panthers staved off a historic collapse with a 2-1 victory over the Oilers to earn the franchise's first title. It's been more than 30 years since a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup — and the Oilers, out for revenge, have extra motivation to break that drought. Edmonton will also open the series as a slight betting favorite over the Panthers. Hockey superstitions may also come into play here. After not touching the Clarence S. Campbell trophy last year and subsequently losing the Finals, Oilers captain Connor McDavid grabbed it right away this year — opening the hope that Edmonton's luck might change. Both teams have been on strong postseason runs heading into the rematch. Florida kicked off the playoffs with a 4-1 series win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, before dashing the Toronto Maple Leafs' postseason dreams with a 6-1 Game 7 victory. Advertisement As for Edmonton, the Oilers pulled through the first two rounds with a 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Kings with a 4-2 win and a 4-1 win over the Las Vegas Knights before dispatching the Stars. The Stanley Cup Final begin Wednesday, with Edmonton hosting the first two games.

Diddy's ex-assistant and alleged victim testifies under fake name in rapper's sex trafficking trial
incoming update… Judge Arun Subramanian has allowed Sean 'Diddy' Combs to wear 'non-prison' clothes for his trial. The rapper was permitted five button down shirts, up to five pairs of pants, up to five sweaters, up to five pairs of socks, and up to two pairs of shoes without laces. On the first day of testimony in the case, Diddy wore a khaki sweater over a white shirt with khaki pants. "That change may seem minor, but it actually matters quite a bit,' criminal defense attorney Duncan Levin explained to Fox News Digital. 'The optics of a defendant's appearance can have a subtle but powerful effect on jurors. If he were forced to wear jail-issued clothing, it could create an unconscious presumption of guilt — even though jurors are instructed not to let that factor in. Allowing him to appear in normal clothing helps level the playing field and reinforces the presumption of innocence.' 'Especially in a case like this, where celebrity, image, and public perception are already playing such an outsized role, letting him look like a free man rather than a prisoner helps ensure the jury is focused on the evidence, not the wardrobe,' the lawyer, who worked on Harvey Weinstein's defense, said. Entertainment attorney Tre Lovell added: "Perception is very important. Based on the egregious allegations against Diddy, he needs to be presented in the exact opposite. The way he dresses, the way he conducts himself and the way he acts towards court, the participants and the jury is all extremely important. The prosecution is going to paint a very ugly picture of a violent rapist, and the jury needs to see a vision of someone that is kind and professional." Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial began with jury selection on May 5 and could last up to two months. During a hearing prior to the trial, the prosecution claimed they expect their case to take six weeks to argue, while Combs' legal team estimated they would need two weeks to complete their defense. However, on Tuesday, the government told the judge they believe their case will take closer to five weeks instead of six. Combs is accused of running a criminal enterprise through his various businesses. He used "firearms, threats of violence, coercion and verbal, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse" to fulfill his sexual desires, according to the unsealed indictment obtained by Fox News Digital. According to court documents, Combs would force his victims to participate in what he called 'freak offs.' "Freak Offs were elaborate and produced sex performances that Combs arranged, directed, masturbated during, and often electronically recorded," authorities stated. The indictment alleges the rapper was known to provide IV fluids to his victims following "freak offs" to recover from physical exertion and drug use. Diddy has denied the allegations against him. 20 questions to ask a travel agency seller
Mark Pestronk Q: There is another agency in my community that I want to acquire. With my attorney's help, I have already drafted a nonbinding letter of intent with the key business terms, which I expect the prospective seller to sign. I have also reviewed the agency's financials, tax returns and key contracts. Now, I need to have my attorney draft the actual purchase agreement. To enable my attorney to do the best job, what information do I need to ask the seller for now? A: Here are 20 questions for the seller that will help your attorney zero in on all the legal issues and draft a good agreement: 1. What is the agency's full legal name, and where is it incorporated or organized? 2. What are the owners' full legal names, and how much does each own? 3. Is there an agreement among the owners, and if so, what does it provide for? 4. Are the owners related to each other? 5. Who are the agency's officers, directors or managing members? 6. Are there any other companies that are under the same or partly the same ownership? 7. Are there any nontravel-related lines of business within the company? 8. Does the agency have any debts or liens on its assets? 9. Does the agency have any employment or IC agreements that can't be terminated at will? 10. Does the agency have an ARC appointment? 11. Does the agency have a GDS contract, and if so, when does it expire? 12. Does the agency have an office lease, and if so, when does it expire and how much is the security deposit? 13. What other contracts does the agency have that cannot be terminated in 30 days or fewer? 14. Does the agency hold client deposits, and if so, how much are they? 15. Are there any future bookings that will require a buyer to pay out of its own funds (e.g., cruise group deposits paid in advance of collecting from clients)? 16. Which key employees will be retained, for how long, for what compensation, and what duties will they have? 17. Is there any threatened or actual litigation, and if so, what are the details? 18. Are there any other obligations not in the ordinary course of business? 19. Why does the owner want to sell? 20. When would the owner like to close the transaction? Once the agreement is drafted and is acceptable to the seller, you will need to get lots more information to add as exhibits to the agreement, such as lists of tangible assets, contracts, employees, ICs, top clients, top suppliers, client receivables and accrued vacation and other pay. You will also need to add financial statements, along with a warranty that the financials are correct. Finally, in the typical agency acquisition, commissions that are unpaid as of closing will often be automatically deposited into the seller's bank account. If the purchase agreement provides that you get any of this money, you need to list those commissions plus a commitment for the seller to remit them to you after closing.
