Pirated Versions of Rajinikanth's Coolie Blocked By Madras High Court
The Madras High Court ordered ISPs to block pirated versions of Rajinikanth's film Coolie to prevent revenue loss. In recent years, numerous big-ticket films across languages have fallen prey to piracy within hours of release, with leaked copies flooding torrent sites and illegal streaming platforms. Such piracy not only slashes box office revenue but also undermines the hard work of hundreds involved in filmmaking. Now, with Rajinikanth's upcoming Coolie just days from release, the Madras High Court has stepped in to ensure the highly anticipated project doesn't meet the same fate. The court has directed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and cable networks to block any pirated versions of Coolie from being streamed online, warning that the producers could suffer 'irreparable injury" if piracy is not curbed. The decision is intended to protect both the film's commercial prospects and the larger entertainment industry's economic health. Under the ruling, ISPs must block access to all websites, existing and future, that might host or stream illegal copies of the film. The order plays a crucial role ISPs play in preventing digital piracy and enforcing intellectual property rights. By stopping unauthorised online distribution, the court aims to ensure that Coolie's performance depends on legitimate ticket sales rather than illegal streaming traffic. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is set to hit theatres on August 14. The film boasts a high-profile cast including Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Aamir Khan. It also marks Rajinikanth's first collaboration with Kanagaraj. Coolie has triggered an unexpected surge in ticket prices, particularly for the first-day, first-show (FDFS) screenings. In Chennai, reports reveal that black market scalpers are selling these coveted tickets for as much as Rs 4,500. Advance bookings for Coolie have seen unprecedented enthusiasm not only in Tamil Nadu but also across other Indian states and international markets. This overwhelming demand has unfortunately led to widespread black marketing. Single-screen cinemas and fan clubs have allegedly violated Tamil Nadu government regulations by inflating ticket prices. Set in a bustling coastal port town, the story follows a mysterious protagonist who takes on a powerful and corrupt syndicate exploiting the labour of local coolies. Initially announced in September 2023 as Thalaivar 171, marking Rajinikanth's 171st lead role, the project received its official title in April 2024. Filming began in July 2024 in Chennai, before moving through multiple schedules in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok. Production concluded by mid-March 2025. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Param Sundari: Sidharth Malhotra Trained In Kalaripayattu, Underwent Prep To Shoot With Elephants
Last Updated: The trailer of Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, hints at a rom-com about a Delhi boy and a Kerala girl. The trailer of Param Sundari has audiences talking — and for Sidharth Malhotra, playing Param was a test of grit and focus. To prepare, the actor trained in the ancient martial art of Kalaripayattu, learning complex moves that demanded significant physical preparation and discipline. Adding to the challenge, Sidharth also filmed sequences with elephants — a rare experience that brought both excitement and unpredictability to the set. Working alongside the animals while performing action scenes required extra care and precision. The trailer for Param Sundari is out, and it's a colourful rom-com about a Delhi boy, played by Sidharth Malhotra, and a Kerala girl, played by Janhvi Kapoor. They come from completely different worlds, and their culture clash leads to fun, drama, and plenty of romance as they meet, fall in love, and try to make it work. Shot against the beautiful backdrop of Kerala, the trailer captures the intoxicating blend of monsoon-drenched roads, backwater bike rides, and the architectural beauty of centuries-old churches – including a heart-stopping sequence that echoes the timeless romance of our favourite onscreen couple SRK and Kajol. Opening up on the film, Sidharth Malhotra said, 'With Param Sundari, I feel like I'm revisiting the kind of romance I grew up loving, but telling it in a way that feels fresh and relatable. Param has that Delhi boy charm, with a love story that makes you cross worlds. We wanted it to look as beautiful as it feels, and Kerala's magic really made that happen. I hope the audience feels the same warmth and joy we felt while making it." The trailer offers a glimpse of the scale and authenticity behind Param Sundari. Directed by Tushar Jalota and produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, the film releases in cinemas on August 29. Jack Sparrow Set To Sail Again? Producer Drops Big Hint On Johnny Depp's Return
Last Updated: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer hinted at Johnny Depp's possible return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, depending on the script despite past issues. More than eight years after Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theatres, long-time franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer has hinted at the possibility of Johnny Depp stepping back into his most famous role – Captain Jack Sparrow. The update comes as fans continue to speculate about the future of Disney's swashbuckling adventure series. Depp first brought the eccentric pirate to life in 2003's The Curse of the Black Pearl, a performance that became central to the franchise's success. He went on to star in Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007), On Stranger Tides (2011), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017), alongside co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Tuesday, Bruckheimer confirmed that he has spoken with Depp about reprising the role for a planned sixth instalment. 'If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it… It's all about what's on the page, as we all know," the producer said. His remarks follow earlier comments expressing his desire to have the City of Lies actor involved, despite Disney's past decision to part ways with him. That split came amid Depp's high-profile legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. During the 2022 defamation trial, Heard's 2018 op-ed, describing herself as a victim of domestic abuse without naming Depp, was brought into focus. Depp told the court he believed Disney had cut ties with him as a result, and when asked by Heard's lawyer whether he would return to the role for '$300 million and a million alpacas," the actor replied: 'That is true. There was a deep and distinct sense of feeling betrayed by the people that I've worked hard for." Plans for a sixth Pirates film have been in discussion since 2019, with no official announcements on casting or storyline. Bruckheimer has previously indicated that the next project may serve as a reboot, though he has also expressed hope that Captain Jack Sparrow could still make an appearance.
