K.J. Henry's pick-6 leads Browns to win over Eagles in preseason game with Shedeur Sanders sidelined
The decisive touchdown came on defense instead of from relief QBs. K.J. Henry returned an interception 45 yards for a score in the third quarter to send the Browns to a 22-13 preseason win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.
In a game missing almost all regular-season starters on both sides — Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley sat out for the defending Super Bowl champions while Myles Garrett and Jerry Jeudy rested for the Browns — the Eagles got a better look at their draft picks fighting for playing time.
Andrew Mukuba returned an interception 75 yards for a score and recovered a fumble, and Jihaad Campbell had a sack, an impressive showing for the Eagles' top two 2025 draft picks.
Maybe somewhere actor Matthew McConaughey was impressed.
McConaughey, a Longhorns superfan, had a social media post in support of Mukuba when the safety was drafted out of Texas in the second round.
Mukuba missed time early in training camp with a shoulder injury and returned only in the last few days to take first-team reps. He was in the right spot to pick off a pass from Dillon Gabriel. Mukuba took it all the way for the 75-yard score and a 7-6 lead. He added a fumble recovery later and broke up a pass in the second half, the kind of plays needed to close the gap in his competition with Sydney Brown for the starting spot.
Campbell, a linebacker out of Alabama selected 31st overall, sacked Gabriel on the second play of the game.
The Eagles just may have found two more defensive gems to make meaningful contributions in their pursuit of another title.
The Eagles and Browns both played it safe with their starters after the two teams held a pair of joint practices earlier in the week.
Sanders hurt his oblique in the first practice and did not play Saturday. The Browns started Gabriel, a third-round pick who worked his way back into the lineup after he had been sidelined with an injured hamstring.
Gabriel was 13 of 18 passing for 143 yards and the pick-6. Tyler 'Snoop' Huntley played in the second half and was 10 of 13 for 71 yards.
Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw a pick-6 to Henry that gave Cleveland a 19-13 lead in the third. Thompson-Robinson was replaced by Kyle McCord, another 2025 draft pick, on the next series. McCord, who is from nearby Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and was raised as an Eagles fan, threw a touchdown pass and threw for 47 yards overall.
The Eagles had just 88 total yards.
Sanders out
Sanders, who covered his head with a towel as he watched from the sideline, didn't play after he sustained an oblique injury during drills ahead of practice Wednesday. The Browns said he is day to day.
Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win in the opener over Carolina.
The 40-year-old Joe Flacco, in the mix to start the season opener, also sat out. And Kenny Pickett didn't play as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
High snap
Yes, Thompson-Robinson threw the pick-6, but he wasn't helped by a high snap from Brett Toth. Toth played at center and Drew Kendall was at left guard as the Eagles tried to get by without the injured Landon Dickerson. Dickerson has been sidelined since he suffered a right knee injury at an open practice. The Eagles have not given a timeline for his absence or ruled him out for the season opener.
Up next
The Browns host the Rams on Saturday.

Joe Flacco was obvious QB1 pick, but plenty still needs to be settled in Browns' QB room
There were attempts to manufacture some drama over the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback decision, but it was the exact outcome we've all known for months. Joe Flacco is the starter. No surprise at all. Thankfully, there's still plenty of actual drama to be sorted out in the Browns' quarterback room. Flacco will start in Week 1 but one look at an absolutely brutal six-game stretch to start the season indicates that it might not be a long-term solution. Cleveland is very likely to use more than one quarterback this season. But due to injuries and an odd four-man derby at quarterback, which was created when the team made the unconventional decision to draft two quarterbacks in the middle rounds, it's uncertain what the order will be behind Flacco. And there's just one more preseason game to go. Joe Flacco expected to play Saturday The Browns have indicated they plan to play Flacco some in the preseason finale. Stefanski wants to use this week to simulate a regular-season week, and to do that he wanted his quarterback in place. Not that anyone paying attention thought it would be anyone but Flacco. So Flacco will play some, but presumably not too much. That means there will be some evaluation time for Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, though that's complicated too. Pickett hasn't played yet in the preseason due to a hamstring injury, but he did practice last week and presumably will be ready to play by Saturday. Sanders' status is unknown after he suffered an oblique injury in warmups before a joint practice last Wednesday. Gabriel, who missed the first preseason game, got the start with Sanders sitting last week. So Flacco hasn't played yet because he was the veteran starter who didn't need preseason reps in the first two games, Pickett hasn't played at all due to injury, Gabriel missed one game and Sanders missed one game. That makes the final decisions on the depth chart a little more challenging. Who will be Browns' backup? From all accounts, the depth chart at Browns camp has been fairly static. Flacco has been treated as the starter. Pickett has missed a lot of camp but there's no indication he's not second in line. Gabriel has been third and, even after a very good showing in Cleveland's first preseason game, Sanders has been fourth. That doesn't mean that is Stefanski's final answer on the depth chart. Gabriel played well last week aside from one pick-6, showing a good understanding of the offense and delivering passes accurately. Sanders' talent level was well above his status as a fifth-round pick, and he showed it in his one preseason game. The Browns will first need to decide how many quarterbacks to keep. It's very rare for a team to keep four, but it's an unusual situation. It doesn't seem likely a team would trade for Pickett, Flacco is already named the starter and trading Gabriel or Sanders a few months after trading them seems unlikely. Then, if the Browns do keep four, Stefanski has to order them. If Flacco gets benched, that's when the order will matter. And if Pickett is up next, the order between Gabriel and Sanders will matter if he gets benched later in the season. Perhaps some of that gets settled in Saturday's preseason finale. We know Flacco will be the Browns' starter to begin the season. The rest still seems unsettled.

Cincinnati Bengals Willing to Trade All-Pro Now
Like all other NFL teams, the Cincinnati Bengals are ramping up for the start of the regular season. Cincinnati's first game that counts kicks off Sunday, September 7, against the division rival Cleveland Browns. That's exactly three weeks away, but now the Bengals are suddenly ready to move on from one of their very best players. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Bengals are 'now listening to trade offers for Trey Hendrickson.' This has been a storyline all offseason long, from the moment Hendrickson requested a trade out of Cincinnati back in March. The Bengals even granted the first-team All-Pro permission to seek a trade, but no offers materialized. The 30-year-old led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season, giving him his fourth double-digit sack season in the past five years. Hendrickson is set to have a cap hit of $18.6 million this season in what is the final year of his contract. Yet, with others such as Myles Garrett, the NFL's highest-paid defender, raking in an annual average value of $40 million per season, no wonder Hendrickson feels he's worth more than he's set to make. For whatever reason, the Bengals have been unwilling to meet the superstar defender's asking price thus far, and now they appear to be done negotiating. While Hendrickson would like to remain in Cincinnati, where Joe Burrow always gives them a strong chance of reaching the playoffs and even returning to the Super Bowl, Hendrickson may be fed up with how the current front office is handling his contract talks.
